Actor Rob Lowe is nursing an injured knee after a minor surfing accident on Sunday (19Oct14). The former The West Wing star, an avid surfer, needed stitches to his right knee after a fall left him bruised and bloodied.
Lowe posted a photo of a doctor stitching up his knee on Instagram.com and added the caption, "My day so far. I will live."
He also shared another picture of himself right after the accident, standing with his surf board in hand, with blood gushing from the nasty cut.
He wrote, "The amount of blood that can unwantedly come out of one's body is amazing..."
Lowe did not disclose exactly how he injured himself.
Former R.E.M. star Michael Stipe has signed up to teach students at New York University's Steinhardt Department of Art and Art Professions. The avid photographer, who studied art at the University of Georgia, will front a project titled New Sights, New Noise.
The Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder is set to officially open an animal sanctuary in his native Louisiana almost four years after announcing the initiative. The avid animal right activist has been working on the project through his Ian Somerhalder Foundation since 2010, but he has faced several roadblocks, including securing a plot of the land and raising enough funds to run the sanctuary properly.
But Somerhalder and his foundation partners have finally reached their goal and are ready to open the place, which will offer refuge to abused, unwanted or neglected animals and pair them with young victims of bullying.
A statement from Somerhalder to JustJared.com reads: "We have received incredible support from our ISF family towards this project... What we found was, as much as we were tirelessly saving our funds for the last 3 1/2 years to purchase the sanctuary land, it wasn’t going to be enough.
"But that wasn’t going to stop us. Walls are excellent to hit sometimes because they force you to find a way to lace up some rock climbing shoes and work your way over them.
"This is why I have committed to personally guarantee any required loan on the property and to donate the funds required for the mortgage payments to a million dollars so we can facilitate the purchase of the land and the project can move forward. This land, this delicate bayou ecosystem, is imperative to protect and we are dedicated to doing so."
While Somerhalder did not reveal exactly how much he and his backers have raised so far, their initial goal to build the sanctuary was set at $5 million (GBP2.9million).
Hindu leaders have joined fans of late Beatles star George Harrison in calling for Los Angeles City officials to replant a tree tribute to the singer/songwriter after learning the pine that bore his name has died. The George Harrison Memorial Tree was planted in Griffith Park in 2004 in memory of Harrison, who was a follower of Hinduism, but the pine mysteriously died in June (14).
U.S. Hindu leader Rajan Zed has urged Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti to investigate the reasons of the death of the tree and plant another immediately.
Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, tells WENN, "I wonder why the City is taking so much time to replant a replacement tree in memory of such a well-known humanitarian and avid gardener, who lived in Los Angeles in his later years and died there.
"Insect infestation and California's ongoing drought are being given as the causes of death of this tree, which grew about 12 feet near Griffith Observatory."
The plaque at the base of The George Harrison Memorial Tree still remains. It reads: "In memory of a great humanitarian who touched the world as an artist, a musician and a gardener... For the forest to be green, each tree must be green."
Former child stars Tia and Tamera Mowry are set to become literary heroines after announcing plans to release a series of young adult novels. The first book from the Twintuition series, Double Vision, will centre on twin sisters who battle the supernatural after moving to a new town with their mother.
The actresses tell Eonline.com, "As avid readers, we couldn't be more thrilled to be working with HarperCollins on this book series. We are huge fans of supernatural fiction and have always wanted to write a book that tweens can relate to. This project gives us a chance to combine both interests.
"We are always trying to find ways to connect with our fans who have grown up with us throughout the years, as well as our new ones. Being moms, we know how important reading is to our children. And we can't wait to share the final product with everyone."
Double Vision will hit bookstores on 21 April (15).

The It Was a Good Day hitmaker is an avid Lakers season ticket holder and he admits he gets too fired up at games to sit courtside with his fellow celebrities.
He explains, "I gotta be up there because I'm too emotional. I hate to lose and I'm yelling and screaming, my wife's patting me on the back, trying to calm me down.
"I need to be up, so I'm not part of the show... It's a TV in a suite but you're yelling down on the court and nobody can really hear you... You stay off the TV."
