Everly Brothers star Phil Everly has died, aged 74. The younger of the two Rock and Roll Hall of Fame siblings, Phil passed away in Burbank, California on Friday (03Jan14) of complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
His wife Patti tells the Los Angeles Times, "We are absolutely heartbroken."
He and his brother Don had a string of hits in the 1950s and 1960s and influenced the likes of the Beatles, the Beach Boys and Simon & Garfunkel. Their songs included Wake Up Little Susie, Bye Bye Love and All I Have to Do Is Dream.
Everly was born to country stars Ike and Margaret Everly in Chicago, Illinois in January, 1939. He joined the family act as a boy.
He and Don enjoyed their first hit, Bye Bye Love, in 1957, and followed that with another classic, Wake Up Little Susie.
His brother Don will turn 77 in February (14). The stars' mother is still alive.
The news of Everly's death comes just weeks after the release of Green Day star Billie Joe Armstrong and singer Norah Jones' new tribute album, Foreverly - their take on the brothers' controversial second album Songs Our Daddy Taught Us.
In a recent USA Today interview, Armstrong revealed he was a huge fan, stating, "They are so immaculate."
He added, "That record was pretty daring at the time. A lot of other rock guys were trying to go pop. Chuck Berry had a string of big hits, and the same with Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis. And here the Everlys were playing these torch songs and murder ballads. For them to do something so dark and angelic was appealing to me."
The Everly Brothers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986.
Axl Rose's ex-wife is auctioning off the couple's 1990 marriage certificate and wedding video. Former model Erin Everly is selling off a series of personal items, also including a domestic abuse report and poems and love letters written by Guns N' Roses rocker Rose.
The memorabilia will be going under the hammer at an upcoming Julien's Auctions event in Los Angeles.
Everly is also selling a pair of her ex-husband's leather pants and the shirt he wore in the Welcome To The Jungle video.
The wedding video and marriage certificate alone are expected to fetch upwards of $2,000 (GBP1,300).
Everly, who inspired Rose to write Guns N' Roses hit Sweet Child O' Mine, began dating the rocker in the mid-1980s. Their marriage only lasted a few months.
Actress Jenna Dewan-Tatum feared she would faint at the Oscars after pregnancy hormones left her feeling light-headed on the red carpet. The Step Up star was six-and-a-half months pregnant when she stepped out to support husband Channing Tatum at the Academy Awards in February (13) and she reveals she had to unzip the back of her dress while watching the live show to avoid passing out.
She says, "I walk the Oscars and I'm like, 'I'm good, my hormones, I'm a little hot, but this is OK though'. We sit in the third row. I'm literally (next to) Jessica Chastain and Meryl Streep and all these people and then Seth (MacFarlane, the host) comes out and I'm like, 'OK here we go, I'm excited,' and I sit and all of a sudden I'm like, 'Oh no, oh no...'
"It takes you over, I'm like, 'Am I going to pass out, am I going to faint...? I can't do this, I cannot be the person that passes out live at the Oscars'. So I discreetly reach back and undo my dress a little bit, and I was like, 'Aah,' and I sat there. So nobody knows that I sat there the whole time with my dress completely undone."
The actress gave birth to her first child, Everly, in London in May (13).
Green Day star Billie Joe Armstrong and Norah Jones have teamed up to record an album of duets, inspired by the music of The Everly Brothers. Both big fans of rock 'n' roll siblings Don and Phil Everly, the Grammy Award winners hit the studio to craft Foreverly, a new 12-song collection inspired by the brothers' 1958 album of Americana tunes, Songs Our Daddy Taught Us.
Armstrong and Jones recorded the album in just nine days.
The punk rocker says, "I've been a big fan of The Everly Brothers since I was a little boy. A couple of years ago, I discovered Songs Our Daddy Taught Us for the first time, and I fell in love with it. I was playing it every day and thought it would be a cool idea to re-do the record, but with a female singer. I thought of Norah because she can sing anything, from rock to jazz to blues, and I knew her harmonies would be amazing.
"I thought the songs would take on a different meaning working with her, and she has a really good ear for arrangements. I was mainly intrigued by these old traditionals, country songs, and hymns."
Jones adds, "Billie Joe's enthusiasm about the songs and his low-key, open approach to the music was very inviting. He wasn't set in his ideas, which made it fun for us both to sort of discover what felt right for us, musically."
The album will be released in November (13).
"I swear to God I will have every baby there... I had, like, 20 midwives, like, 10 doulas... I ended up in a diaper and bra." New mum Jenna Dewan-Tatum is a big fan of the Portland Hospital in London, where she gave birth to baby Everly in May (13).
Channing Tatum has mastered the art of beatboxing since becoming a father as it helps to send his baby daughter to sleep. The Hollywood actor and wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum welcomed baby daughter Everly earlier this year, and the Step Up actress insists Tatum has become more sensitive since becoming a father.
In an interview with U.S. TV host Ellen DeGeneres, the Witches of East End star says, "It's funny, he's so sensitive. He's like this really strong big guy in life, but you give him this little baby and he's like, 'Oh my god, is she going to drop? Am I doing everything ok?'"
The actress also admits that the Magic Mike star has mastered a particular method to put their daughter to sleep, adding, "The baby is crying and you're like, 'What do I do to make her stop crying?'
"And all of a sudden, he starts beatboxing and she starts cooing. I'm like, 'What? I have been rocking her. I have been swaying her. I've been doing squats' and he gets here and he (beatboxes)... She would just fall asleep in his arms."
"He's in the trailer, he's rocking her to sleep, I'm running back and forth breastfeeding. He's been amazing - every chance he gets he's here. He's like, 'I could sit here and be set husband all day long. This is so fun!'" Actress Jenna Dewan-Tatum is full of praise for her husband Channing Tatum, who has been a doting dad to daughter Everly while mum has been filming her new TV show, Witches of East End.
"Going back to work made me feel normal again. For six weeks I was home in sweatpants. If I got a chance to shower every two days, I was lucky!" Actress Jenna Dewan-Tatum is glad to be back at work after giving birth to baby daughter Everly in May (13).
"I was little worried about getting back to work, having my head be in the right place, leaving her at times. And I still have issues with that, like any new mum (who) goes back to work." Actress Jenna Dewan-Tatum struggles to leave her baby daughter Everly to go to work each day on new TV show The Witches Of East End.
"You see the thing you love the most with the other thing you love the most, and there's just a natural new awakening of the love you guys share together. Just caring for something that's so small, and being so gentle and tender makes you just melt." New mum Jenna Dewan-Tatum tells People.com she falls in love with her husband, Channing Tatum, all over again when she watches him dote on their baby girl Everly.
