The Scream star, 39, and actor partner J.J. Feild secretly welcomed son Caspian last year (12), but Campbell only confirmed the news and the tot's name during an appearance on U.S. chat show The Talk over Christmas.
Now, Campbell has opened up about her experiences of motherhood, insisting she is "really glad" she took her time in falling pregnant.
She tells parenting website CelebrityBabyScoop.com, "I am absolutely loving being a mother! Caspian is such a beautiful little soul and we are madly in love. Anything that is exhausting is well worthwhile. It's been a beautiful experience... I am lucky.
"Being a mother, I feel that I have come into my own in a way. I think any woman will be a little nervous about whether they are capable of raising a child. I am really glad I waited until the age that I am at.
"I feel very confident with him, very comfortable with what we're doing, and with the decisions we are making. It has been such a beautiful experience, and it makes other things far less important. I think that's a great thing."
The Scream star revealed she was pregnant with her actor partner J.J. Feild's baby earlier this year (12), but stayed mum about the summer birth.
Campbell and Feild were photographed cooing over an infant while enjoying a day at the beach in August (12), prompting rumours she had become a mum and now the Scream star has confirmed she's the mother of a five month old son.
And the new mum reveals she struggled to name the boy - because she wanted him to have a unique moniker.
She tells U.S. chat show The Talk, "I like having a unique name - it's (my mum's) maiden name, Neve - and not a lot of people have it. It's nice having something special and different and so I wanted something like that for our son... We looked through a lot of books and... we decided that we'd wait and see and meet him and then decide."
The pair came up with five options, but after coming face-to-face with the newborn, they made a decision on the spot: "When he was born we realised we could only remember one and that was Caspian, so it seemed like it was right."
The Scream star confirmed in March (12) she was pregnant by her actor partner J.J. Feild, and the tot was due to be born this summer.
Now, the couple has been photographed enjoying a day at a beach in Los Angeles with a tiny baby.
In one shot, published by DailyMail.co.uk, Campbell is seen tenderly kissing the tot as she cradles its head in her hands. Another image shows the couple cooing over the bundle of joy, and a third shows Feild feeding the youngster with a bottle.
A U.K. representative for Campbell referred media inquiries to her L.A. publicist, who had not responded to a request for comment as WENN went to press.
The 38-year-old actress surprised photographers in Los Angeles on Thursday (15Mar12) when she showed off her baby bump while running errands, and a representative has now confirmed the happy news.
The father is Campbell's boyfriend, British actor J.J. Feild. The couple began dating last year (11) shortly after the actress divorced her second husband John Light.
THR reports that Jerusha Hess, wife of filmmaker Jared Hess, will make her directorial debut with Austenland, an indie rom-com about “a single, thirtysomething woman” whose love life is stunted by an obsession with Mr. Darcy, the fictional character from the Jane Austen novel Pride and Prejudice. Though Jerusha has yet to occupy the director’s chair, she does not lack for moviemaking experience – she served as co-writer on all three of her husband’s feature films: Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre, and Gentleman Broncos. (She also exec-produced the latter, which we won’t hold against her.)
Austenland has some major producing clout behind it in the form of Stephenie Meyer, author of the blockbuster Twilight saga and producer of its two-part film finale, Breaking Dawn. The collaboration makes for an odd marriage of styles: Hess has heretofore trafficked exclusively in quirk, while Meyer's game is teen harlequin melodrama. (They do share the same faith, which I suppose counts for something.) Keri Russell (Extraordinary Measures), J.J. Feild (Captain America: The First Avenger), and Bret McKenzie (Flight of the Conchords) are slated to star.
