Finely crafted, well thought out, always humble…are phrases that would never be used to describe the things Kanye West says in public. Whether it’s interrupting Taylor Swift’s VMA speech, gushing over wife Kim Kardashian, or – his favorite – bragging about himself, Kanye is the wordsmith of crazy. But one thing’s for certain: When he speaks, he always gets attention. So maybe he’s a genius after all? You be the judge. Here are some of his most ridiculous quotes, taken from various interviews and appearances.
"I’m a creative genius and there’s no other way to word it.”
"When I think of competition it's like I try to create against the past. I think about Michelangelo and Picasso, you know, the pyramids."
“I am undoubtedly, you know, Steve of Internet, downtown, fashion, culture. Period. By a long jump. I honestly feel that because Steve has passed, you know, it’s like when Biggie passed and Jay-Z was allowed to become Jay-Z.”
“There’s no way a Kim Kardashian shouldn’t have a star on the Walk of Fame.”
"Come on now! How could you be me and want to be someone else?"
“Sometimes people write novels and they just be so wordy and so self-absorbed. I am not a fan of books. I would never want a book’s autograph.”
“When Beyoncé was working on her album, she had pictures of Kim on the wall because Kim represents powerful women.”
Somehow we doubt this.
"All barber shops, fashion designers, architects, corner stores, Wall Street, all over the world: Y'all acting like this ain't the most beautiful woman of all time! I'm talkin', like, arguably of human existence — the top 10 of human existence."
“God chose me. He made a path for me. I am God’s vessel. But my greatest pain in life is that I will never be able to see myself perform.”
“Like, I’m just giving up my body on the stage; I’m putting my life at risk, literally!”
"So, the voices in my head told me go, and then I just walked up, like, halfway up the stage... But I just didn’t really want to take away from Beck’s moment, or the time he’s having to talk. It was kind of a joke – like the Grammys themselves."
At least he admits he hears voices.
"I hate when I'm on a flight and I wake up with a water bottle next to me like oh great now I gotta be responsible for this water bottle."
This man has a child now...
"I don't even listen to rap. My apartment is too nice to listen to rap in."
"I'm a pop enigma. I live and breathe every element in life. I rock a bespoke suit and I go to Harold's for fried chicken. It's all these things at once, because, as a taste maker, I find the best of everything."
"I will be the leader of a company that ends up being worth billions of dollars, because I got the answers. I understand culture. I am the nucleus."

Stars including Kim Kardashian, Julianne Moore, Taylor Swift and Demi Lovato have waded into a raging online debate over a colour-changing dress. The picture of the gown was initially posted on Tumblr.com and has since become an Internet sensation as viewers argue over whether it appears to be white and gold, or blue and black.
It became a trending topic on Twitter.com and a slew of stars have gone online to debate the issue. Pop singer Swift writes, "I don't understand this odd dress debate and I feel like it's a trick somehow. I'm confused and scared. PS it's obviously blue and black," while Lovato adds, "Wow... My mind is blown. Civil war in the studio right now. #blueandblack... Hold on... So people actually see white and gold....??!!"
Kardashian posted a response to Lovato, writing, "I do! How do you see black & blue?????"
Oscar-winning actress Julianne Moore also joined the debate, adding, "What's the matter with u (sic) guys, it's white and gold," and fellow Hollywood star James Franco added, "Dress controversy... Violet and black! Obvs (obviously)."
Rapper Kanye West forced producers at the BRIT Awards to cut parts of his performance from the live TV broadcast after cursing repeatedly on stage. The hip-hop star debuted expletive-laden song All Day during the show at London's O2 Arena on Wednesday (25Feb15), prompting producers to heavily censor the performance and fill large parts of his set with silence to avoid offending TV viewers.
Music fans watching the show online around the world didn't suffer the same inconvenience - and they got to check out Kanye's fiery set unedited.
West, who was introduced to the stage by his wife Kim Kardashian, was a last-minute addition to the bill this week (beg23Feb15) after reportedly stepping into replace his FourFiveSeconds collaborator Rihanna, who reportedly pulled out of rehearsals on Monday (23Feb15) and axed her set at the BRIT Awards.
Audience members like Taylor Swift and Lionel Richie were caught on camera looking astonished as Kanye performed - he took the stage with a small army of look-alike fans, all dressed in black, and two huge flamethrowers which lit up the O2 Arena.
Pop stars Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith were the big winners at the 2015 MasterCard BRIT Awards in London on Wednesday night (25Feb15) after picking up two trophies each. Sheeran won the first award of the night, collecting the British Male Solo Artist prize at the O2 Arena and returned to the stage at the end of the show to claim the ceremony's top prize, MasterCard British Album, for X.
After he was handed his trophy by movie star Russell Crowe, Sheeran told the crowd, "Thank you so much for this... I didn't expect this... It's been a very, very good year for British music... It's a night to celebrate the whole thing... Keep making music."
Sheeran's pal Taylor Swift opened the show with a performance of her hit Blank Space, and she went on to win her first ever BRIT Award, for International Female Solo Artist.
Other winners included Foo Fighters (International Group), Royal Blood (British Group) and Pharrell Williams (International Male Solo Artist), while Mark Ronson landed British Single for his Bruno Mars collaboration Uptown Funk!, and One Direction took home their fifth BRIT after winning British Artist Video of the Year for You And I.
Kim Kardashian presented Sam Smith with the Global Success Award of 2015, before introducing her husband Kanye West to the stage for a performance, and as Smith collected his second award of the night, for British Breakthrough, he dedicated the prize to his longtime collaborator, singer/songwriter Jimmy Napes, whose pregnant wife is due to give birth imminently,
He said, "(Thanks to) Jimmy Napes, whose wife is at home about to pop - so this is for you Tilda."
Madonna returned to the BRIT Awards stage for the first time in 20 years for a performance of Living For Love, but her big moment was marred by a nasty fall as she walked on. The singer appeared to trip on her long black cloak as she hit the stage and she fell back down the steps onto the floor before picking herself up and carrying on with her performance.
Other performers at the event included Sheeran, Royal Blood, Take That and Paloma Faith, who performed her hit track Only Love Can Hurt Like This in a man made rain storm onstage.
The main list of winners is as follows:
British Male Solo Artist: Ed Sheeran
British Group: Royal Blood
International Female Solo Artist: Taylor Swift
British Female Solo Artist: Paloma Faith
International Male Solo Artist: Pharrell Williams
British Single: Uptown Funk! by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars
International Group: Foo Fighters
British Breakthrough: Sam Smith
British Artist Video of the Year: You and I by One Direction
MasterCard British Album: X by Ed Sheeran
Taylor Swift reportedly stood Kanye West up at his Adidas collection launch on Thursday (12Feb15) after telling the rapper she'd make it to his big New York Fashion Week show. West, who famously upset Swift by protesting against her Best Female Video win over pal Beyonce at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, was overheard telling Vogue magazine's Andre Leon Talley he was expecting the Love Story singer to be his special guest.
The rapper reportedly told the fashion guru, "She was supposed to be here today, so I don't know what happened."
It appears Swift was too busy launching her new video, Style, to attend the fashion bash, where Beyonce and Jay Z rubbed shoulders with Justin Bieber, Sean 'Diddy' Combs, Rihanna and members of Kanye's Kardashian family.
A source tells E! News, "Taylor wanted to attend but had a scheduled photo shoot that day that she could not move."
Kanye's daughter North West also missed dad's big fashion show as she had to be removed from the event by her mother Kim Kardashian after she threw a tantrum.
The troubled tot's dad has since explained his daughter's meltdown moments before the runway show started was caused by the tense atmosphere at the event.
West tells i-D, "Maybe she was just scared for her daddy. She just wanted people to stop being mean to her daddy. Because she knows that her daddy loves the world and just wants to make it a more beautiful place."
Diplo received a slew of death threats and disturbing messages from Taylor Swift's fans after he became embroiled in an online feud with Lorde over the former country star. The DJ/producer started the argument by making a joke about Swift's body shape, prompting pranksters to launch an Internet campaign to raise funds to buy the singer a new "booty".
The online running joke infuriated Swift's pal Lorde, who waded into the furore by flinging insults at Diplo, accusing him of having a "tiny penis" and sparking a war-of-words between the pair.
Diplo has now opened up about the row in an interview with America's GQ magazine, calling the feud "really dumb" and revealing he was bombarded with chilling threats from Swift's army of devotees.
He says, "It's really dumb. So many great albums came out that week, and all people talked about... was Me vs. Lorde, and Kim Kardashian's butt. No one covered any music... And it's funny, because me and Lorde, we're actually friends, and it was a funny, in-jest conversation. So many tabloids used it to make it story, when it was not. Literally, it was such a tongue-in-cheek joke on both sides.
"I think Taylor Swift is such an impactful character, that it was because she was involved that it became really big... The repercussions (were) really bad. Like, Taylor Swift fans are really crazy. They threatened to murder me and stuff. It's really bizarre, and disgusting. They're the worst people in the world... (They said things like) I wish your kids had Down syndrome... I dissed Lady Gaga before, and... (her fans) were never even this mean. They're funny. These people (Swift's fans) are like mean-spirited, evil human beings. I'm not a politician. I shouldn't have to be under the microscope for people like that."
Beyonce has been named Facebook's most-referenced entertainer of the year. The superstar, who stunned fans with the surprise release of her self-titled album a year ago, has beaten out Pharrell Williams and Nicki Minaj to the top spot, while Taylor Swift and U.S. chat show host Jimmy Fallon round out the top five.
Kim Kardashian, John Legend, Iggy Azalea, Katy Perry and Pitbull all make the top 10.
Pop star Taylor Swift, music mogul Simon Cowell, reality TV star Kim Kardashian and British comedian Lenny Henry have been ranked among the most powerful figures in the U.K. media.
The 2014 MediaGuardian 100 poll, compiled by editors at the U.K.'s Guardian newspaper, features those who boast the most pulling power and have had the biggest impact on national art, advertising, technology and journalism in the past year. Google co-founder Larry Page tops the new survey, followed by Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg and Apple CEO Tim Cook at two and three, respectively, but actor-turned-diversity campaigner Henry is the highest-ranked star at eight.
Swift crashes in at 10 and becomes the highest woman on the list, while British music executive and TV mogul Cowell places at number 18.
Further down the list, outspoken comedian and political commentator Russell Brand is at 37, actor Benedict Cumberbatch ranks at 50 and Scandal creator Shonda Rhimes is at 58. Director David Lynch (67) and Girls creator and star Lena Dunham (92) also feature, while Kanye West's wife Kim Kardashian just makes the cut at 100.
The new U.K. list has been released on the same day Swift was named to Time magazine's shortlist for the coveted Person of the Year title.
Oh, Lorde! She’s just 18 years old and already cooler than you’ll ever be. The New Zealand songstress is so wise beyond her years that many have questioned her age. We’d love for her to be older (to ease our feelings of inadequacy), but it’s not. She’s simply a very awesome teen, and we just have to deal with it.
1. She personally curated The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 soundtrack.
All of the songs were handpicked by Lorde. She’s even got a few songs of her own on there, including the haunting “Yellow Flicker Beat.”
2. When she became a multi Grammy award-winning artist.
She snagged the prize for Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for her hit tune “Royals” this year.
3. When she defended her bestie Taylor Swift against unsavory comments by Diplo.
@diplo should we do something about your tiny penis while we're at it hm
— Lorde (@lordemusic) November 13, 2014
When Diplo tweeted that someone should start a Kickstarter to get Taylor a booty, Lorde fired back, dissing Diplo’s “tiny” manhood. You go grrrl!
4. She called out publications that go crazy with Photoshop.
i find this curious - two photos from today, one edited so my skin is perfect and one real. remember flaws are ok :-) pic.twitter.com/PuRhxt2u2O
— Lorde (@lordemusic) March 31, 2014
Lorde isn’t afraid to go makeup-free – in fact, she would rather people know her skin has flaws.
5. The way she wears her hair.
It’s big and spiral-y and we’re majorly envious.
6. Her trademark purple lipstick.
She even had her own two-piece MAC collection. This girl’s a trend-setter.
7. Whenever she dances on stage.
Some have accused her of looking like Gollum, but that’s just her giving in to the music. And we think that’s totally cool. She addressed her on-stage movements in a Reddit Q&A once: “I know when i'm onstage, I don't think about how it looks, I just concentrate on really feeling what I hear. But I totally know I look like Gollum when I perform, so it's cool.”
8. That time she performed a Nirvana cover at their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction.
She wasn’t even alive when Nirvana was a band, but she totally rocked this cover of "All Apologies."
9. She became the youngest solo artist to achieve a number-one single in the U.S. with "Royals" since Tiffany's "I Think We're Alone Now" in 1988.
Lorde’s song is of a decidedly higher quality. Sorry, Tiffany.
10. Her lyrics are inspired by short story writers.
Lorde is not only musically gifted, she’s well-read too. She’s cited writers like Raymond Carver, Wells Tower, Tobias Wolff and Claire Vaye as lyrical inspirations. (PS- We had to Google them.)
11. This October, Lorde was included on Time’s list of "The 25 Most Influential Teens of 2014."
She was also named "The New Queen of Alternative" by Billboard.
12. That time she had a perfect response to a question about Halloween costumes.
people keep asking me what i will be for halloween and my answer is that i am halloween
— Lorde (@lordemusic) October 31, 2014
13. Britney freakin’ Spears once cited Lorde as an influence.
When the princess of pop calls your music “really different and cool,” you know you’ve made it.
14. At age 14, she proofread her mother’s Master’s thesis.
Yep, she’s THAT smart.
15. When she sported black dip-dye fingers at the Grammys.
Because regular nail art is so last year.
16. The way she clarified her reaction to Kim Kardashian's Paper magazine cover.
for all those who may have misunderstood my reaction to kim's #BreakTheInternet cover, i explained it here: http://t.co/LBxbjfLs3S
— Lorde (@lordemusic) November 14, 2014
Because the Internet apparently didn't understand her teen slang. Get with it, Internet.
17. When she covered Jeremih's "Don't Tell 'Em."
Shhh...we liked her version better.
18. The time she acknowledged that it's tough being a cool kid.
sometimes i use slang in emails and my phone autocorrects the word to the correct spelling so i have to change it back. it's hard being cool
— Lorde (@lordemusic) August 13, 2014
We'd be satisfied with only half of her coolness. Keep being you, Lorde!
