Lawyers working for Kate Winslet have threatened to sue a fathers' rights group after they used her image in a Christmas campaign. The Oscar winner's picture appears on a new poster from Fathers4Justice, an organisation which calls for custodial rights for dads, in light of the mother-of-three's comments to Vogue magazine insisting she disagrees with "50/50" parenting.
Her ex-husband Sam Mendes blasted the advert, which features the tagline 'Kate, every child deserves a father this Christmas', and bosses of the organisation have revealed they have also been contacted by Winslet's legal team.
A copy of a letter sent by Winslet's attorneys has been posted on Facebook.com and accuses the Fathers4Justice poster of "misleading and seriously defamatory" remarks.
In a statement, Campaign Director Nadine O'Connor hits back at the accusations, writing on the site, "Kate Winslet brought her children/parenting arrangements into the public domain with her comments, not Fathers4Justice.
"We believe the content of the advert is accurate, balanced and reflective of the comments she made. We do though welcome Mr Mendes' comments supporting fathers rights and find it regrettable that instead of resolving this dispute as we had agreed, Kate Winslet has sought redress through legal action."
The Titanic star has three children by three different dads - a daughter, Mia, with first husband Jim Threapleton, son Joe with Mendes, and another son, born earlier this month (Dec13), with her third husband Ned Rocknroll.
Hollywood director Sam Mendes has criticised a fathers' rights group after his ex-wife Kate Winslet was targeted in the organisation's Christmas campaign. Members of Fathers4Justice, which campaigns for custodial rights for dads, have launched a new poster featuring the Oscar winner's face alongside the caption, "Kate, every child deserves a father this Christmas."
The campaign refers to Winslet's controversial quotes in which she claimed her two eldest children, who have different fathers, live with her full time.
She said, "My kids don't go back and forth; none of this 50/50 time with the mums and dads - my children live with me, that is it."
Mendes, who has a nine-year-old son, Joe, with the actress, has now spoken out to defend his ex-wife, telling Britain's Daily Mirror, "It is inappropriate for this organisation to involve my family and I when they know nothing of our personal circumstances.
"Whilst I fully support fathers' rights, I can happily state this has never been a concern for me or my son."
In response, a statement from the group reads, "We are running this advert as part of a campaign to highlight the sensitive issue of four million children waking up on Christmas Day without their father. It is clear from what Kate says that she does not support 'shared parenting'."
Winslet also has a 13-year-old daughter, Mia, from her marriage to Jim Threapleton and she gave birth to a son with her third husband Ned Rocknroll on 7 December (13).
British actress Kate Winslet has given birth to a baby boy. The Titanic beauty and her husband, Ned Rocknroll, welcomed their first child together in London on Monday (09Dec13), according to the New York Post.
The Oscar winner wed Rocknroll, the nephew of Virgin mogul Richard Branson, in New York a year ago (Dec12).
The newborn is Winslet's third child - she has a 13-year-old daughter named Mia from her first marriage to director Jim Threapleton, while her second husband, filmmaker Sam Mendes, is the father of her nine-year-old son, Joe.
"I was never going to change my name to Rocknroll. I've never changed my name to anything so I didn't see a reason to start now." Pregnant actress Kate Winslet has no plans to change her last name following her marriage to third husband Ned Rocknroll last year (12). She was previously wed to Sam Mendes and Jim Threapleton.
Kate Winslet opened up about her pregnancy as she debuted her baby bump at the Toronto Film Festival in Canada on Saturday (07Sep13), insisting she feels "completely great" as she prepares to welcome her third child. The Titanic star is expecting a baby with her third husband Ned Rocknroll, who she married last year (12), and she has now made her first official public appearance since announcing the news.
Winslet walked the red carpet at the major movie event in Toronto on Saturday to promote her new film Labor Day, showing off her growing bump in a fitted, black dress and telling reporters, "I feel completely great. It's such a pleasure to be able to be here and still be permitted on an airplane and talk about a film that I'm proud to be a part of."
The actress adds of parenthood, "I have admiration for mothers everywhere. Being a parent turns you inside out. It completely transforms your life and, of course, your children are your absolute everything."
Winslet is also a mum to two other children, Mia, 12, with her first husband Jim Threapleton, and a nine-year-old son Joe, from her second marriage to director Sam Mendes.
Oscar winner Kate Winslet is pregnant. The Titanic star and her new husband Ned Rocknroll are expecting their first child together.
Her spokesperson tells People.com, "Kate and Ned are delighted."
The actress has a 12-year-old daughter, called Mia, from her marriage to Jim Threapleton, and a son Joe, nine, from her second union to director Sam Mendes.
Winslet began dating Rocknroll in 2011 and the pair married in December (12).
It's a big day for celebrity babies: People is reporting that Kate Winslet is pregnant. The Oscar-winning actress is expecting a child with husband Ned Rocknroll. This is the couple's first child together. Winslet's rep tells People that "Kate and Ned are delighted" by the pregnancy.
Winslet already has two children, Mia, 12, and Joe, 9, from her previous marriages to Jim Threapleton and Sam Mendes, respectively. She married Rocknroll, the nephew of Richard Branson, in December 2012. Since the child is already going to have a crazy last name, let's hope his or her first name is relatively normal.

Third time's the charm for Academy Award winner Kate Winslet, who exchanged Christmas bells for wedding ones when she married Ned Rocknroll in early December. According to US Weekly, Rocknroll and Winslet exchanged vows amongst family and friends in New York. The ceremony was reportedly an intimate one, including the couple of several year's closest confidants.
For most folks, the first question probably is: will Winslet soon be Kate Rocknroll on film credits? Not so fast! Unsurprisingly, Ned Rocknroll is merely an alias for the nephew of kooky British billionaire Richard Branson. You may remember the name from when Winslet and Rocknroll (real name: Abel Smith) were on Necker Island and were caught in a fire together. No one was hurt, but love did apparently rise out of the ashes of the tragedy. Like a phoenix! Or, you know, just a logical progression in a relationship after you've been together for awhile—fire or otherwise.
Winslet was previously married to director Jim Threapleton from 1998 to 2001. They have a daughter, Mia, who is 12. Winslet then tied knots with director Sam Mendes in 2003, divorcing in 2010. The two have a son named Joe, who is 9 years old. This is the second marriage for Rocknroll, who was previously attached to his former wife and British socialite Eliza Cowdray, who—to really remind us that she's British—is the daughter of a multimillionaire viscount. How very rock 'n' roll.
