Actress Gwyneth Paltrow took the plunge for charity on Wednesday (20Aug14) after nominating her estranged husband Chris Martin to also endure the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. The Oscar winner was given the task of pouring freezing water over her head to raise cash and awareness for the ALS Association by three celebrities, including her personal trainer Tracy Anderson, chef Jose Andres and lifestyle expert Martha Stewart.
In a video posted on Instagram.com, Paltrow, clad in a bikini, tells her followers she is donating money to the charity and then nominates Martin, Cameron Diaz, and her fashion designer pal Stella McCartney for the stunt.
A friend then pours the ice cold water over the actress, and she runs out of frame screaming from the shock.
Paltrow and the Coldplay frontman announced their separation in March (14), and both are rumoured to have moved on from the marriage - the actress has been linked to Glee producer Brad Falchuk, while Martin has reportedly been romancing newly-single Jennifer Lawrence.
The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is raising funds to battle ALS, also known as motor neurone disease and Lou Gehrig's disease.
Lady Gaga has joined the celebrities taking the Ice Bucket Challenge for Lou Gehrig's Disease research in typical dramatic fashion. The bikini-clad pop star has uploaded a video of herself pouring a silver serving dish full of ice-cold water over her head while seated in a chair online. She says nothing in the footage, but posted the message: "#IceBucketChallenge #ALS #SharePainShowCompassion I nominate Adele, Michael Rapino, Vincent Herbert, and Arthur Fogel #RichPeople."
Stars like Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Jon Bon Jovi, Carrie Underwood, Justin Timberlake, Eddie Vedder and Gwen Stefani also joined the challenge over the weekend (16-17Aug14), posting videos online of their chilly water moments.
Vedder took the task on after Pearl Jam bandmate Mike McCready called on him and the rest of the group to join him in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.
The Alive singer nominated pal Bruce Springsteen, One Direction star Niall Horan and actor Tim Robbins to follow his example.
The celebrities are being nominated by famous friends to take on the icy bucket blast or donate to charity. Most stars are doing both.
The campaign has been a big boost to charities connected to Lou Gehrig's Disease, aka ALS - more than $13 million (GBP7.6 million) has been raised since the end of May (14) and there have been over 1.2 million bucket challenge videos posted on Facebook.com.
"I think I've always sort of been on the more boyish spectrum of girls. For example, I've never been chosen as 'one of the top-five hottest actresses in a bikini.' And honestly, it's a godsend." Pretty Woman star Julia Roberts insists she has no problem missing out on sexy magazine titles.
Country singer Leann Rimes is working on turning her obsession with bikinis into a business venture with plans to launch her own swimwear collection. The Blue hitmaker is known for showing off her toned figure in sexy beachwear and she admits she would love the opportunity to test her design skills.
In an interview with FoxNews.com, she reveals she has been thinking of entering the bikini fashion industry for some time, and adds, "I've been researching that a little bit more as we speak.
"I've worn so many bikinis that I know what works and what doesn't. I know what I like and I know what's missing in the marketplace. We shall see! I hope that it comes to fruition."
Discussing her vision for the line, she continues, "I'm an earthly girl. I love very natural colours - nudes and golds. Beautiful, feminine and classy...
"I think the biggest misconception about bikinis is that if you're heavier, that you need to wear more coverage on your butt. It looks horrible on any woman. The skimpier the bottoms, the better your butt looks! If you look at pictures of women with bikinis that cover the whole butt, it just looks frumpy. Flaunt what you've got!"
Rocker Kathleen Hanna has reached out to Miley Cyrus to propose plans for a collaboration on an edgy new album. The former Bikini Kill frontwoman was flattered after learning Cyrus had posted vintage snaps of her on her Instagram.com over the weekend (01-03Aug14) and she decided to contact the provocative Wrecking Ball hitmaker via Twitter.com in the hopes of hitting the studio together.
In a post on Monday (04Aug14), Hanna wrote, "Hey @MileyCyrus so sweet you posted pics of me...have an idea for an album that only you are daring enough to make."
Cyrus has yet to respond to the message and Hanna has not shared further details about what the project would entail.
One of the images the young singer uploaded on Friday (01Aug14) included a black-and-white picture of Hanna wearing a bikini top with the word "Slut" scrawled on her bare stomach. In the accompanying caption, Cyrus simply wrote, "coolest ever".

Justin Bieber appears determined to continue provoking Orlando Bloom following their bust-up at a party in Ibiza, Spain early on Wednesday (30Jul14) by posting a photo of the British actor's estranged wife, Miranda Kerr, on his Instagram blog. The two stars squared up to one another at a celebrity-filled event at Cipriani restaurant, and in video footage of the confrontation, obtained by TMZ.com, the pair appear to engage in a shoving match, before Bloom allegedly attempts to throw a punch at Bieber, only to miss his target.
Reports suggest the altercation was over Bloom's ex, Australian supermodel Kerr, who the Baby hitmaker allegedly flirted with while performing at the 2012 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, and Bieber seemed keen to goad the Lord of the Rings star hours after the pair came face to face by uploading a sexy shot of the bikini-clad beauty on his Instagram.com account.
The image was promptly deleted and the 20 year old subsequently tweeted, "Keeping it positive", but he was back to his cheeky behaviour hours later, when he posted a photo of Bloom appearing to cry. That snap was also quickly taken down.
Kerr has yet to comment on the fight, but it seems she would rather focus on her work after taking to her Instagram page on Wednesday to share a picture from her new modelling campaign for 7 For All Mankind. The photo features Kerr topless, wearing just a pair of jeans as she lies in a bathtub filled with water.
The model split from Bloom in October (13) after three years of marriage.

Since posting the shot, a number of critics have taken aim at her for showing too much skin, but she shot back with her own defence in a series of pictures posted on Instagram.
Minaj posted photos of Sports Illustrated cover girls including Kate Upton, Chrissy Teigen, Nina Agdal and Lily Aldridge, who are all prominently posing with tiny bikini bottoms and showing off their rear ends, along with a caption, "Acceptable".
