Patti Labelle's entourage has scored a legal victory against a man who alleged he was attacked at an airport in Texas. Richard King claimed he was attacked at the Bush Intercontinental Airport in 2011 and was forced to drop out of The United States Military Academy at West Point because of his traumatic brain injuries, caused by LaBelle's son and manager Zuri Edwards, bodyguard Efrem Holmes and hairdresser Norma Harris.
The Lady Marmalade hitmaker was also included, but her name was dropped from the suit.
A federal judge absolved the case against the defendants on Tuesday (23Sep14).
Veteran music producer Bob Crewe has died, aged 82. Writer/producer Crewe, who was portrayed on the stage and screen version of Jersey Boys, passed away on Thursday (11Sep14).
The cause of his death has yet to be revealed, but he was unable to attend the film premiere of Clint Eastwood's film adaptation of the hit musical in June (14).
Crewe's music career took off in the 1960s when he worked with The Four Seasons member Bob Gaudio on many singles for the popular rock 'n roll group as both a producer and co-lyricist.
Together, they created hits such as Sherry, Big Girls Don't Cry, Walk Like a Man, Bye Bye Baby, Rag Doll and Can't Take My Eyes Off You.
In addition to his work with Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, Crewe also wrote Patti LaBelle's 1975 number one hit Lady Marmalade with Kenny Nolan, and produced popular singles for artists including Michael Jackson, Diane Renay, Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels.
Crewe was also praised for his philanthropic work, having founded the The Bob Crewe Foundation in 2009. The organisation funds fellowships, scholarships, training and mentorships for aspiring young artists and musicians, and also provides funds for AIDS research and supports LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) rights and initiatives.

In a post on her WhoSay.com account on 4 July (14), Lil Kim shared a picture of Royal Reign's legs splayed on a changing table, with dainty white bows wrapped around her tiny feet.
She added a caption which reads, "Look who is stepping out today for the 4th of July. Happy Independence Day from my blessing, Royal Reign, and us!!! #royalreign #happy4thofjuly #independenceday #fireworks #blessing (sic)."

R&B singer Mya felt compelled to speak out and slam rumours of a long-running affair with Beyonce's rapper husband Jay Z after receiving a number of death threats from the hip-hop supercouple's die-hard fans, according to her manager.
The Lady Marmalade hitmaker found herself at the centre of cheating allegations at the end of last month (Jun14) after a blind gossip item posted on MediaTakeOut.com hinted that she had been Jay Z's mistress for the past 11 years.
One fan asked Mya about the accusations directly via Instagram.com on Thursday (03Jul14), prompting her to respond, "Never did, never was, never will (have an affair with Jay Z)."
She went on to insist she has "too much" respect for herself and the institution of marriage to embark on an affair with a married man. Now Mya's manager, Mike Killmon, has revealed the R&B star wanted to silence the salacious rumours publicly because she had become the victim of multiple death threats.
Killmon tells the New York Daily News, "At first it (the rumour) was just ridiculous, but then some die-hard (Beyonce and Jay Z) fans start (sic) making threats. She really couldn't care less about the rumours, but she wanted to set the record straight when the after-effects started to become troublesome."
Jay Z and Beyonce started dating in 2002 and wed in 2008. Speculation about the status of their marriage began surfacing in May (14) after surveillance footage of Beyonce's sister Solange Knowles attacking Jay Z in a New York elevator emerged online.
A joint statement released after the "unfortunate incident" claimed the hip-hop mogul and his sister-in-law had "apologized to each other" and "worked through" their disagreement, although it failed to mention what the argument had been about.
R&B star Mya has slammed rumours suggesting she and rapper Jay Z have been secretly dating behind Beyonce's back, blaming gossip-hungry bloggers for spreading the false speculation. The Lady Marmalade hitmaker found herself at the centre of cheating allegations this week (begs30Jun14) after a blind item posted on MediaTakeOut.com hinted that she has been Jay Z's mistress for 11 years.
The online report didn't refer to Mya by name, but described the woman as a "very short-named R&B singer who hasn't had a hit in awhile", and went on to state: "She basically lives off the generosity of Jay Z and a couple of other guys".
One fan asked Mya about the accusations directly via Instagram.com on Thursday (03Jul14), and the singer, who collaborated with the 99 Problems rapper on her 2000 song Best of Me (Part 2), responded, writing, "Never did, never was, never will (have an affair with Jay Z).
"Illegitimate, thirsty sources with no facts and that's the 'media' for you-especially today. I play second to no one, pay my own bills, have my own label, own management company, rely on God only and respect myself & marriage too much for nonsense.
"False rumors are crafted for ratings & numbers. And miserable, unhappy people need someone to judge to deter the attention away from their own misery and feel better about their miserable lives. If they did it to Jesus, they'll do it to anyone. God bless."

Soul legend Patti Labelle regrets her past cosmetic surgery, insisting she'd like to go back in time and tell her younger self not to touch her nose. The Lady Marmalade singer admits she went under the knife because she felt her nose was too big.
She tells Access Hollywood, "I would tell my younger self not to have problems with the way I looked... not to worry about that nose. I had a bigger nose, so I had a nose job - that's the only surgery I've ever had on my face or my body.
"I was beating up myself for the way my nose looked and my nose was fine before I changed it, but it was my way of thinking that once I got on TV it's gonna look bigger.
"I would have said, 'Patti, back in the day you shouldn't have touched your nose. Be yourself'."
Soul legend Patti Labelle once had to pee in a bucket during a concert when she was caught short onstage in the middle of a song. The Lady Marmalade hitmaker was performing outdoors and realised there was no time to dash offstage to relieve herself and so asked an assistant to find an alternative in a hurry.
LaBelle tells Access Hollywood Live, "I had to go to the ladies room and they didn’t have one close, it was an outdoor gig.
"My friend Norma, who had been doing my hair for 40 years, brought me a bucket to the side where the dressing areas were. I used a bucket! Nobody knew. They thought I was going back to change clothes.
"She covered me (and) everybody stood around with their backs turned.
"(I) kept the song going after that, honey! I kept singing, the band was playing and Patti was doing her thing."
Soul icon Aretha Franklin has laughed off rumours her pal Patti Labelle was recently arrested following a fight between the pair after fans fell for a spoof news article posted online. The fake story was posted on TheNewsNerd.com on Friday (11Apr14), alleging the Lady Marmalade hitmaker been taken into police custody after throwing a punch at Franklin during a run-in in Atlanta, Georgia last month (Mar14).
The false news caused such a stir on the Internet that Franklin has now spoken out to clear up the claims.
In a funny statement released on Tuesday (15Apr14), the legendary singer writes, "I've never heard anything crazier - regarding myself and Patti allegedly fighting on March 20, in Atlanta.
"On March 20, I was in New York City readying for my birthday patty (Sorry. LOL (laugh out loud). Laughing at my typo error). I meant PARTY, which we all had one fabulous time. Patti and I are cool and we always have been."
