Taylor Swift did not need to switch her Oscar De La Renta gown for the Met Gala in New York last week (05May14) after her pet cat attacked the custom satin dress during her fitting hours before she hit the red carpet. The country star looked flawless on the red carpet, leading some fashion critics to ponder whether she was forced to change outfits after revealing her cat Meredith had had her way with the gown.
Hours before fashion's big night out, she tweeted, "That moment when your cat casually walks up, then abruptly ATTACKS your custom satin Oscar de la Renta gown during your fitting for Met Ball."
She hasn't spoken about the near-disaster since, but now she's telling People magazine Meredith caused a minor panic but didn't do any major damage.
She explains, "I've never seen more fashionable people lose their composure quicker than when a cat walks up to a satin, custom Oscar de la Renta gown and then decides to make a home inside of it.
"She just passed, dug her claws in and started to roll... like when you see a crocodile attack an antelope on National Geographic (channel)."
She adds, " She (cat) fancies herself as quite a hunter... (but) she's a chubby house cat. She's not very strong!"
Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o turned heads at the 2014 Costume Institute Gala in New York on Monday (05Apr14) as she arrived in a feathery mesh design from Prada. The 12 Years a Slave star, who last month (Apr14) was named People magazine's Most Beautiful woman, topped off her latest red carpet outfit for this year's fashion Oscars with a jewelled headband.
Early arrivals at the annual Metropolitan Museum of Art bash included John Legend and his model wife Chrissy Teigen in Ralph Lauren Collection, Latina stars Jessica Alba and Selena Gomez both in Diane Von Furstenberg and Jessica Pare and Zoe Saldana in Michael Kors. Fashion icon Sarah Jessica Parker was stunning as always in a flowing Oscar De La Renta gown, while Nicole Richie and Rita Ora both opted for edgy DKNY designs.
Other fashionable attendees at this year's Met Gala included Anna Kendrick, Rachel McAdams, Suki Waterhouse, Hailee Steinfeld, Dakota Johnson and Kylie Minogue. Meanwhile, British singer Lily Allen, who wore a flattering silver and grey Chanel Couture gown to the fashion world's big night, made the most of her evening with the stars, snapping selfies with the likes of Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, Ora and designer Donatella Versace and posting the photos on her Instagram.com page.
Taylor Swift suffered a fashion mishap on Monday (05May14) as her pet cat attacked her as she was getting ready for New York's Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The country singer was being fitted when her manic moggy Meredith got her claws out - literally! Swift tweeted, "That moment when your cat casually walks up, then abruptly ATTACKS your custom satin Oscar de la Renta gown during your fitting for (the) Met Ball."
The Love Story star is expected to show up on the red carpet in the gown this evening. It is not known if any damage the cat did has prompted the singer to rethink her outfit.
Engaged actress Hayden Panettiere has kickstarted her search for the perfect wedding gown by modelling designer dresses for a Brides magazine cover shoot. The Nashville star, who announced her engagement to Ukrainian boxer Wladimir Klitschko, 37, in October (13), recently admitted she had yet to start organising her big day, but she has geen given a head start on what to wear thanks to a new photo assignment.
The actress tried on a variety of gowns by designers like Oscar de la Renta, Marchesa and Monique Lhuillier as she posed for the April/May (14) issue of the top bridal publication.
In the accompanying interview, Panettiere revealed her fiance's proposal was "very sweet and simple and genuine", adding, "It wasn't about being overwhelmed by fireworks or a mariachi band. I think it's amazing when people do that, but I like that mine was simple and from the heart."
The actress, 24, also admitted she was already nervous about being the centre of attention at her nuptials: "When eyes have been on me in the past, it's been because of an event, where people see me as a persona, as Hayden Panettiere the actress.
"For the aisle, you're the purest, most emotionally stripped down version of yourself, sharing this raw moment with the most important people in your life. It seems very overwhelming!"
Designer Michael Kors was honoured with a special fashion award in New York on Wednesday (04Sep13). The former Project Runway star was handed the Award for Artistry of Fashion from the Couture Council of the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology, following in the footsteps of style luminaries Karl Lagerfeld and Oscar de la Renta.
Oscar winner Hilary Swank was on hand to present Kors with the prize, telling the star-studded crowd, "His instinct for fashion was evident early on. At age 5, he advised his mother to cut the bows off her over-the-top wedding dress. He's come a long way since... He is the king of American sportswear, he understands glamour and sex appeal, he understands the idea of being smart and pragmatic all at once."
Guests at the ceremony at New York's Lincoln Center included Vogue editor Anna Wintour, and models Doutzen Kroes and Lily Aldridge.
Newlywed actress Kate Bosworth and her director beau Michael Polish have shared their first photo as husband and wife, a day after exchanging vows atop a mountain in Montana. The Hollywood couple wed at sunset at the picturesque Ranch at Rock Creek in Philipsburg on Saturday (31Aug13), and photographers from lifestyle queen Martha Stewart's wedding magazine were there to capture exclusive images for a special December (13) issue.
A teaser shot featuring the stars kissing on their big day was released online on Sunday (01Sep13), with the Superman Returns beauty wearing a custom-made white Oscar de la Renta dress, while her new husband suited up in a Brooks Brothers outfit.
Pictures from Bosworth and Polish's wedding album will feature in the winter (13) edition of Martha Stewart Weddings, a year after Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds shared snaps from their 2012 nuptials in the same publication.
Prince William and his wife became first-time parents on Monday (22Jul13) when Catherine, Duchess Of Cambridge gave birth to a son. The little boy was born in London in the Lindo wing of St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, London - the same hospital where William and his brother Harry were delivered.
Reports suggest the baby was born at 4.24pm local time and weighed in at eight pounds and six ounces (3.79 kilograms).
The new baby is third in line to the British throne after William, who was at his wife's side throughout the delivery, and his father Charles, Prince of Wales.
The newborn shares a birthday with Willem Dafoe, Selena Gomez, Don Henley and fashion designer Oscar de la Renta.
Further details, including the name of the child, have not been announced.
In line with tradition, an official declaration of the baby's birth was framed and placed on an easel outside Buckingham Palace for all to see.
It read: "Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 4.24pm today. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well."
The declaration was signed by the doctors who witnessed the birth.
Disgraced designer John Galliano's scheduled master class at a top New York City fashion school has been scrapped after he refused to be quizzed about the scandal which wrecked his career. The fashion mogul lost his job as head designer at Christian Dior following an anti-Semitic rant at a couple during a night out in Paris in 2011.
He has recently started to rebuild his reputation by working for Oscar de la Renta on a temporary contract and he agreed to run a three-day workshop at Parsons The New School for Design for a series of sessions called Show Me Emotion.
Bosses at the college promised students would get the chance to have a "frank conversation" with Galliano on the "challenges and complications" of running a top fashion house, but they have now announced the course has been cancelled after the designer refused to take part in the forum.
An email from the college to students reads, "It was a condition of our agreeing to host Mr Galliano that we also hold a larger forum, which would include frank discussion of his career. Ultimately, an agreement could not be reached with Mr Galliano regarding the details of that forum, and so the program will not move forward. While we understand the pressures Mr Galliano faces, we expected to invite students, faculty and staff to ask Mr Galliano how his trajectory as a designer was changed by his offensive remarks and to learn from that example."
The fashion mogul fell from grace after he was accused of hurling anti-Semitic abuse at a couple during a night out in Paris, France in February, 2011. His arrest, and the subsequent court case, cost him his job as head designer at Christian Dior.
Galliano admitted he was battling a drink problem and has spent the last two years recovering, and now he is set to get back to work with a job at Oscar de la Renta's studio in New York.
De la Renta says, "John and I have known each other for many years and I am a great admirer of his talent. He has worked long and hard on his recovery and I am happy to give him the opportunity to re-immerse himself in the world of fashion and reacclimate (sic) in an environment where he has been so creative."
Galliano adds, "I am an alcoholic. I have been in recovery for the past two years... I have expressed my sorrow privately and publicly for the pain which I caused, and I continue to do so. I remain committed to making amends to those I have hurt. I am grateful to Oscar beyond words for inviting me to spend time with him in the familiar surroundings of a design studio. His support and faith in me is humbling."
The actress wowed onlookers on the red carpet with her embellished Oscar de la Renta gown - but the spaghetti straps didn't last the evening.
Her The Dark Knight Rises co-star Gordon-Levitt took to his Facebook.com page and revealed he helped fix the strap on Hathaway's dress with a sparkly red pin, and uploaded a picture of the two together.
In an accompanying post, he added, "Annie tore the strap on her dress, but luckily I had a pin."
Hathaway won the Best Supporting Actress trophy at the Critics' Choice Awards for her turn as prostitute Fantine in Les Miserables, while Joseph Gordon-Levitt's thriller Looper was named Best Sci-fi/Horror Movie.
