Today, August 29th, 2014 marks the 21st birthday of Liam Payne. Daddy Direction can legally drink in America! An important thing for us grown-up Directioners. To celebrate the day, we’ve got 21 fun-facts about Liam. Not that boring stuff, like his zodiac sign (Virgo) or his middle name (James, just like his band-mate Niall Horan).
1. He is afraid of spoons. It’s not that weird, it’s kind of cute.
2. Of the band, he’s the only one who comes to work with his hair done. The other band members show up with their hair all over the place, but he won’t leave his house without doing his hair.
3. If he wasn’t a singer, he would make a fabulous journalist:
He might have been drunk, but he actually asked all the questions a fan wanted to know after watching the Brit Awards.
4. His favorite film is the Toy Story trilogy.
5. Liam once told TOTP that he had the best dance moves and he was, “The king of the dance floor!” With his signature 1-2-3 flick. Recognize those moves anywhere?
6. Liam’s dream job, aside from the one he is currently living as a pop-star, is a fire fighter.
7. He once had his underwear stolen (and then later worn) by a fan.
8. If Liam could invent an ice cream flavor, it would be “Krispy Kreme Donut.”
9. He once confessed to owning a pair of pink hair straighteners. We can see the evidence of that here.
10. He has said that Justin Timberlake is one of his biggest inspirations. He also sang “Cry Me A River,” at his 2010 X Factor audition. Good thing too, since look where that got him!
11. Once, he was asked what food he would be, he responded: “I’d be 7 bananas because it’s too much potassium and that’s dangerous.” Gotta love a bad boy.
12. His favorite color is still purple (had to include this because it’s adorable).
13. Liam once had no idea what YOLO and DTF stood for, so he guessed “Yummy Oreos Love Origami” and “Dedicated To Fans.” Better abbreviations, in my honest opinion.
14. Liam wishes he’d written the song “99 Problems,” by Jay Z. We wonder why?
15. All of his band-mates have said he’s got the best abs in the group. We cannot deny this.
16. Liam has a man-crush on Twilight star Taylor Lautner.
17. He has two pet turtles named Boris and Archimedes. He also has an adorable little husky named Loki (with his ex-girlfriend Danielle Peazer).

18. One time Liam was left behind and when the tour bus took off, he started running after it while waving his arms. The rest of the band mistook him for a fan at first.
19. Until he was 19-years-old, Liam suffered from kidney problems (1 scarred and dysfunctional kidney) that kept him from drinking and he had to lead a very careful life. Luckily, he’s all healthy now and can legally drink with his American fans!
20. The one person guaranteed to make him laugh is band-made, Louis Tomlinson! “Even if I’m in a situation where I’m mad at him, the person that can make me smile is Louis. Whatever happens he’ll make me laugh about something.”
21. One of Liam’s tattoos (the feather and lyrics) is dedicated to his Nan.
Happy Birthday Liam! We hope you have an awesome day and get to relax a little, if that's possible to do in the middle of a world tour.

One Direction's Niall Horan raised more than $480,000 (£300,000) for good causes with his star-studded charity soccer match. The Irish pop singer recruited bandmates Harry Styles, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson, as well as celebrity pals including British actor/comedian James Corden and singer Ronan Keating, to battle it out against a team helmed by newsman Piers Morgan on Monday (26May14).
Morgan's squad emerged triumphant after a tense penalty shoot-out, and the event raised upwards of $480,000 for charities Irish Autism Action and U.K. Hearts And Minds Challenge.
Horan, who was unable to play in the match due to a knee injury, expressed his delight in a series of posts on Twitter.com, writing, "What a great day yesterday!... Thank you to all the players who played in the game, giving up their time to play! Much appreciated!... £300,000! Wow! Thank you everyone for buying tickets and coming down, to the sponsors of the game, the players! Everyone! Amazing."
More than 15,000 tickets were sold for the event at the King Power Stadium in Leicester, England.
One Direction star Harry Styles embarrassed British newsman Piers Morgan by pulling down his shorts during a charity soccer game. The What Makes You Beautiful hitmaker was joined by his bandmates Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan, who acted as team manager, at the celebrity soccer tournament in Leicester, England on Monday (26May14).
Morgan, Boyzone singer Ronan Keating and British comedian James Corden also took part in the match alongside former professional players. A short video has since emerged showing Styles running up behind Morgan and pulling his shorts down in front of the stadium crowd. Morgan swiftly hauls them back up and the singer runs off cheering.
The former talk show host took the prank in good spirits, writing on Twitter.com, "So (Harry Styles) pulled my shorts down mid-game. I believe this got the biggest scream of the day." He later posted the clip, adding, "(I) can't work out if this is a career high or low?"
Despite the mishap, rival team manager Morgan ended the game on a high as his soccer side emerged victorious following a penalty shootout against Horan's players. The match, which was organised by Horan, raised money for autism charities Irish Autism Action and U.K. Hearts And Minds Challenge.
British singer Ellie Goulding is dating pop rocker Dougie Poynter. The pair sparked romance rumours last month (Feb14) after the McFly star was spotted arriving at the Lights hitmaker's London home on several occasions.
They remained tight-lipped about the status of their relationship, but now Poynter has admitted they have been dating since last year (13).
Poynter tells Britain's Mail on Sunday newspaper, "We've been seeing each other since last year. Ellie's a great girl, such a lovely person and a breath of fresh air in this industry.
"In the music industry you always bump into the same people, so it's nice when you get to meet other musicians you like and want to spend time with."
Poynter is Goulding's latest celebrity boyfriend, she has previously dated War Horse actor Jeremy Irvine, dubstep star Skrillex, British DJ Greg James and was linked to One Direction's Niall Horan in 2013.
The McFly guitarist dated pop star Frankie Sandford between 2008 and 2010.
British singer Adele was stunned when a motoring instructor who helped her pass her driving test insisted he did not recognise any of her songs. The Rolling In The Deep hitmaker celebrated passing her road exam earlier this month (Oct13) with the help of driving instructor Noel Gaughan, but he has now revealed he had not heard any of her tracks.
The singer later credited Gaughan for steering her through the tough test, saying, "(I) could not have done it without him."
The instructor, who has also given lessons to movie stars Gemma Arterton and James McAvoy and One Direction singer Niall Horan, insisted he didn't know any of the singer's tracks - even when she performed them in the car.
He says, "'She would sing some beautiful songs and say 'You must know this one' but I don't really know many celebrities."
British pop star Ellie Goulding has been the target of online abuse following reports she is dating One Direction star Niall Horan. The pair was linked after they were potted sharing a kiss at Britain's V Festival earlier this month (Aug13).
The Your Song hitmaker has since been bombarded with tweets from obsessed fans of the band, and she insists she has decided against speaking about her reported romance with the Irish singer.
She tells Britain's Daily Mirror, "Oh God, I knew this was coming! I just can't talk about Niall. I won't ever talk about my love life any more because it's always then gone wrong when I have in the past.
"But I will say this, I've definitely had some 'interesting' tweets since the story came out. Thankfully I'm able to take it all with a pinch of salt because I've been told to be that way.
"I genuinely mean this - I don't hate on anyone, but at least One Direction fans are very passionate and my fans are very passionate too. I'd hate it if people didn't care about what they thought."
The singer has previously dated actor Jeremy Irvine, dubstep star Skrillex, and British DJ Greg James.
One Direction star Harry Styles has stunned fans by locking lips with actor James Corden on U.K. TV. The pop singer and his bandmates taped a guest appearance on Corden's British quiz show A League of Their Own, and Styles became centre of attention when he climbed onto Corden's lap, put his hand on his face and leaned in for a kiss.
The pair locked lips to re-enact a 'kiss-cam' moment, which are seen at many U.S. sporting events.
Styles was recently forced to straighten out rumours about his sexuality by telling Britain's GQ magazine he is definitely not romancing his DJ friend Nick Grimshaw, saying, "We're not dating, no. We're just friends. Bisexual? Me? I don't think so. I'm pretty sure I'm not."
The episode of A League Of Their Own featuring Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan airs in the U.K. on 30 August (13).
One Direction star Niall Horan was left red-faced when a cheeky prank went too far and he was left with a semi-permanent tattoo of James Corden's face on his backside. The Irish singer is the only member of the boyband without any body art, and British comic Corden highlighted this fact on his U.K. comedy panel game show A League Of Their Own when Horan was a guest.
Corden decided to ink his friend with a temporary transfer and Horan readily agreed, even suggesting his butt as the perfect place for the picture.
However, Horan was unable to wash off the transfer and was stuck with it for three weeks.
Corden tells Britain's The Sun, "We made a thing on the show that he's the only member of the band without a tattoo. I said to him, 'We've got this idea of putting a tattoo of my face on your body'. Niall went, 'You should put it on my a**e'.
"We tattooed it on his left buttock - it took him three weeks to get rid of it. He sent me an update every week, with a photo of my fading face on his a**e saying, 'It's still not gone yet'."
Timing, and timeliness, is everything. Especially when it comes to films. No one is more aware of that than Kieran Evans, the writer/director of Kelly + Victor, and its two leads Antonia Campbell-Hughes and Julian Morris, respectively. While their harrowing indie drama was filmed over the course of around six weeks (in what Morris described as "a hot, lovely summer in Liverpool"), it began to hit the festival circuit in late 2012 and early 2013 — including here at SXSW — right when the Fifty Shades of Grey frenzy hit a fever pitch.

So how does E.L. James soapy saga factor into Kelly + Victor, Evans' big screen adaptation of Niall Griffiths' gritty novel of the same name? Kelly + Victor follows the story of a young couple who meet at a Liverpool nightclub and begin an intense emotional and sexual relationship, one that includes S&M. But don't mistake Kelly and Victor for Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey: theirs is a thoughtful, more realistic, and ultimately tragic tale.
That doesn't mean Evans and his stars don't appreciate the timing though. "It's been surprising," the writer/director said. "American audiences are not usually open to this kind of topic. But I think with [Fifty Shades of Grey]...maybe it's a zeitgeist thing. With taboo sex, the lid is kind of being lifted. We seem to be in the right place at the right time."
For Campbell-Hughes, who plays the titular Kelly — a woman she described as seeing as "a puppy that keeps getting kicked... it's sweet, but it will bite back" — exploring her character's intrigue with S&M had no taboos. "I met Kieran and I knew it was going to be handled well," she said. "The rawness of it is the fact that its very honest."
"Nudity has never really bothered me that much, but I'm learning it should more," the actress added. "It's not about how much you see, its about how it's shown. The movies that we see all the time are filled with violence and nudity, but its sort of saccharine, it's glorified, its fake, its glycerin, it's horrible."

While Kelly and Victor's sexual relationship, one which does not shy away from realism, is a major aspect of the film, it's the emotional one that really drives the film. (And, much like 2012's sex drama Shame, while Kelly + Victor has plenty of sex, it can often be decidedly un-sexy and hard to watch at times).
That very relationship at the core of the film — which Morris (who describes his character Victor as "quite a gentle soul" who finds his outlet in Kelly, while Campbell-Hughes sees him as someone who "gets off... on stepping into the void") likened to "obsessive love they have for each other, this frantic physicality that you get in any sort of new relationship when you're just clawing at each other" — is what drew the stars and the writer/director to the project the most. "What's interesting is the relationship between Kelly and Victor isn't about the consequences of S&M," Evans said, "It's about the consequences of what they do and what happens if two atoms collide at such a great speed. "
Another aspect that played into the film, was what Morris described as a "massive character" in the film: the city of Liverpool. "This [shoot] was really unique because to get that essence of Liverpool and the characters for it to be quite engulfing, we really lived Liverpool and the characteristics of the people. That's where the intensity was, it was everywhere in Liverpool,"Campbell-Hughes said, adding that the location is much like an analogy for Kelly and Victor's love: "Liverpool is shown as such a beautiful place, but its full of cracks."

The actress also described "Kelly and Victor are wanderers in their home land" and Morris himself took to wandering the streets of Liverpool to get into character, both for Victor and the city itself, by going on a pub crawl. "It was the most informative thing to me, under the slight haze of alcohol," he said. "I met the local lads, got down the dialect, [learned] the politics, just walked around."
But, in the end, the film is not about S&M, or Liverpool, or even relationships. It is, as Evans simply said: "Ultimately the whole thing is about human needs."

Forget that the latest adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's sweeping romance novel comes from the man who brought us the slick-but-stuffy Pride and Prejudice and Atonement. Every frame of director Joe Wright's Anna Karenina is a wonder to behold overflowing with visual spectacle and roaring performances. Keira Knightley Jude Law Aaron Taylor-Johnson and the rest of the cast fit perfectly in the high drama epic but it's really Wright's playground. Following Hanna an artful spin on the action movie Wright returns to the period drama but injects it with dazzling daring choices. A book like Anna Karenina could once fit in reality but its larger-than-life legacy precedes it. Wright acknowledges that from frame one approaching the film like a grand ballet or opera where grand gestures broad emotions and overt theatrics are commonplace. That vision clicks transforming Anna Karenina into an exhilarating moviegoing experience.
The storyline of Anna Karenina isn't far off from a daytime soap: It's 1874 and Anna (Knightley) is floating through existence as the wife of influential government player Karenin (Law). But when her brother Oblonsky (Matthew Macfadyen) summons her to Moscow to save his marriage Anna's entire world is shaken up. She meets Vronsky (Taylor-Johnson) a cavalry hunk who finds himself smitten with the taken lady. She's in the same boat: The two strike up a flirtatious relationship that evolves into one of sexual passion. A scandalous affair would incite trouble in the preset day but in the 19th century it's the ultimate crime. Quickly Anna's life comes crumbling down.
The intertwining melodrama of Anna Karenina earned the novel its classic status but Wright uses the material as a launching pad for imagination rather than a tome to translate to screen. Many of the scenes are staged in a theater creating an instant awareness of the production. Sets shift and are reconstructed into new rooms; actors costume change in the span of single shots; action sequences like a thrilling horse race are conducted on stage with special effects you might see on Broadway. Wright works this sort of stylization in the other direction too; a character could walk an empty stage open a door and suddenly be on a snow-covered hill. Anna Karenina isn't the first film to use the effect but in Wright's hands it's exhilarating.
The movie is Wright's third collaboration with Knightley and easily their most successful. Knightley never struggles to stay on the same page as the heightened material whether she's nailing a dance sequence or breaking down in a flood of tears. Casting an ensemble around Knightley is no easy task but Taylor-Johnson gives his best work yet as the debonair love interest and Macfadyen steals the show with moments of physical comedy.
We have expectations of the texture and structure of period romances. Anna Karenina defies them. Masterpiece Theater it is not.
