Folk legend Pete Seeger is in mourning following the death of his wife. Artist and activist Toshi Seeger passed away on Tuesday night (09Jul13) at the age of 91.
Toshi and her husband founded environmental organisation Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, which aims to protect New York's Hudson River and the surrounding wetlands, and Jeff Rumpf, the executive director of the charity, has paid tribute to her.
Branding her death "a huge loss for Clearwater and the world", Rumpf adds, "Toshi is a real mother, a mother for social justice, a mother for festivals all over the world and people singing. She is a mother that embodies all the spirit your own mother does and spreads it out over the community. We're really going to miss Toshi."
Seeger, 94, and his wife, who were days away from celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary, were parents to three children. Their firstborn, Peter, died at the age of six months in 1944.
