"She can sing so much better than me. I don't want to be humiliated in that fashion. I was in the car yesterday and Problem was on; I was like, ''I just can't do that'." Coldplay star Chris Martin laughs off reports he's planning a collaboration with Ariana Grande.
Actor Simon Pegg is adamant rocker Chris Martin is misunderstood by critics, insisting the Coldplay star is so generous he hands bundles of cash to the homeless. Pegg has been close friends with the Yellow hitmaker for years, and is even godfather to Apple, the rocker's daughter with his estranged wife Gwyneth Paltrow.
The pair is so close that Martin even once invited Pegg onstage at a Coldplay gig, and now the Shaun of the Dead star has spoken out to hail his pal as a decent man and insist his reputation as moody and dull is not fair.
Pegg tells Britain's Event magazine, "He's one of the most decent people I know. He has this compulsion to make other people feel better. He is incapable of tolerating other people's unhappiness.
"I've never seen Chris walk past a homeless person without giving him a wad of cash. He'll give them £40, £60, whatever's in his pocket. And he has to deal with a lot of hate. He's someone I have a massive amount of respect for."
Pegg is also keen to defend Martin's wife Paltrow, adding, "There is a lot of mean-spirited bulls**t talked. People make judgements when they don't know her and it's all just c**p."
Rockers Coldplay have donated $17,000 (£10,000) to a charity campaign organised by a terminally-ill fan. Brit Jody Duff, who is battling motor neurone disease, has been raising money for a foundation which helps others suffering from the condition, and his efforts have been boosted by a big donation from his favourite band.
Coldplay handed over $17,000 (£10,000) to Duff's campaign in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
Duff, 37, was previously given a chance to meet the Yellow hitmakers at a recent gig in London, and frontman Chris Martin dedicated a song to him on stage.
"I don't really love talking about this stuff, but the thing we told everyone at the beginning of the year is true. We are very close, we are not together... That's the truth... and that's it... There's a lot of love. So there's nothing... No scandal I'm afraid. I wish I could give you scandal." Coldplay star Chris Martin dismisses reports suggesting he and estranged wife Gwyneth Paltrow are back together during a recent interview with Los Angeles DJ Valentine, which will feature on his show on Monday (28Jul14).
Funnyman David Spade celebrated his 50th birthday with a star-studded bash at the Sunset Tower Hotel in Los Angeles this week (beg21Jul14). The comedian turned 50 on Tuesday (22Jul14) and was joined at the gathering that evening by Chris Rock, Judd Apatow, Sarah Silverman and Steve Martin, according to E! Online.
Spade was surprised with a special birthday video filled with messages from his celebrity pals, including Sir Elton John, Jennifer Aniston, Brad Pitt, Courteney Cox, Rob Lowe, Sean Penn, Adam Sandler and his co-stars from TV shows Just Shoot Me! and Rules of Engagement.
A source source tells E! Online, "Most people did funny comedy bits or jokes, but some were also sincere and heartfelt."
Swedish dance music superstar Avicii has recruited Chris Martin, Billie Joe Armstrong and Jon Bon Jovi, among other big names for his next album.
The follow-up to last year's (13) True will also feature a duet between Wyclef Jean and Matisyahu.
And, teaming up with Coldplay star Martin has been beneficial for Avicii's health - he has been giving the DJ/producer nutrition tips after he was forced to cancel his appearance at the Ultra Festival in Miami, Florida in March (14) due to exhaustion.
He explains, "Chris has been like a brother and helps out with my nutritionist. I find it hard to gain weight, so I drink shakes in the morning."
Ever since she used the term "conscious uncoupling," Gwyneth Paltrow has had her personal life under a microscope. But Paltrow is no stranger to oversharing, bringing the details of her lavish lifestyle to her weekly GOOP newsletter (much to the ire of working moms everywhere). Thankfully for celebrities like Paltrow, there is more than one bright side to splitting up.
That's why even in the midst of a very public divorce, GP is still sitting pretty -- compared to the rest of us, at least. Here's why your day-to-day just doesn't measure up:
You have to work all year round. Paltrow has said she only makes one movie a year, for which she cuts a multi-million dollar paycheck. How many vacation days have you saved up so far?
You don't have time to know what "macrobiotic" means.Following Paltrow's customized diet would drain both your bank account and your sanity.
You wear "real" clothes.Your monthly clothing budget looks more like your water bill than your mortgage. Paltrow is BFFs with A-list designers like Stella McCartney.
Your gifts suck. When the holidays roll around, you and your girlfriends play white elephant with a budget in the double digits. In her 2013 GOOP gift guide, Paltrow recommended a set of PJs for your BF that would set you back almost $450 -- before the custom monogram.
Your personal trainer is your DVD player. And by making house calls to check your form, you mean your toddler climbing on your back during plank. Paltrow is a Tracy Anderson protege and her business partner.
Your self renewal process is (fingers crossed) a morning shower.Paltrow famously endures multiple detoxes each year to heal and cleanse -- every day is a detox for you because you don't have time to eat until dinner.
You're still trying to get a reservation at Babbo. When Paltrow wanted to learn the finer nuances of Italian cooking, she went on a road trip with chef and owner Mario Batali.GIPHY
You and your girlfriends enjoy a cocktail or two.Paltrow told the The Guardian in 2006 she didn't "like" drunk women and had no "drunk friends." Guess you'll be stuck hanging out at those lame places for drunk people: bars, clubs, concerts, events, etc. (Okay, maybe this is a reason your life is better.)
You only have one closet. For someone like Paltrow, who is constantly acquiring new pieces for her wardrobe, space is at a premium. So she calls in the experts at Vault Couture to catalogue and store her garments off-site. By browsing her online "vault" she can select items for rapid global delivery whenever she wants. Yes, she basically has the Clueless closet.
Your vacations are anything but transformative.Even though she described the accommodations at Mii amo Spa in Sedona, Arizona as "nothing to write home about" in the December 11, 2013 issue of GOOP, she still suggests shelling out between $2,265 and $2,500 for a three-day therapeutic journey in a double-occupancy room. Per person.
You're stuck living within your means.Perhaps justifying her anything-but-normal life, Paltrow told Elle UK in 2009 "I am who I am. I can't pretend to be somebody who makes $25,000 a year." We could give her some tips.
You've consumed your share of subpar dairy. At the iTunes Festival in 2011, Paltrow declared, "I'd rather smoke crack than eat cheese from a tin." Who knew Cheese Whiz was a gateway drug?
If this sounds like you, don't fret. At least no one has to know.
"I eat meat. I was vegetarian for quite a long time and then for various reasons I changed. My daughter's vegetarian since she was born, so I keep getting tempted to go back. I don't eat very much meat. I felt like you should only eat something that you'd be able to kill... You know, could you kill a fish? I wouldn't like it, but I probably could, so I'll eat the fish. But a giraffe..." British rocker Chris Martin is no longer following the strict vegetarian diet favoured by his estranged wife Gwyneth Paltrow following their separation in March (14).
British royal Prince Harry has recruited Coldplay star Chris Martin to create a new anthem for his upcoming Invictus Games. The singer is composing the music that will serve as the theme for the Paralympic-style competition for wounded servicemen and women, which will begin in September (14).
It appears Coldplay are favourites of the royals - Harry's brother William recently revealed that Martin's band is his favourite act.
Donovan Leitch's supermodel wife Kirsty Hume has filed for divorce, just months after the actor/rocker dismissed rumours linking him to Gwyneth Paltrow. The Camp Freddy star has been separated from the Scottish beauty for three years, and Hume is now making the split official by filing court papers.
The former couple married in 1997 and is parents to a 10-year-old daughter.
In the divorce papers, obtained by TMZ.com, Hume confirms they have been separated since 2011 and asks for joint custody of their little girl, Violet.
The news comes just months after Leitch spoke out to dismiss pictures which appeared to show him kissing his ex-girlfriend Paltrow at a baseball game last year (13) before the actress announced her split from Chris Martin.
Leitch, who dated Paltrow in the 1990s, said at the time, "It was purely innocent. We were sitting in the owner's box in front of 30,000 people with her two children right next to us. That isn't exactly the setting for a secret liaison. I consider her one of my closest friends. We have tons of great friends in common."
