Ever since The X Factor went on a firing spree back in January, the internet has been rife with rumors about who might assume judging and hosting duties once the Season 2 commences. But, as I'm sure most of you are aware of by now, not all rumors turn out to be completely factual. (Hello, Understatement) In fact, Glee star Darren Criss recently acknowledged that the rumor surrounding his supposed involvement with the show was totally false.
Back in March, it was reported that the popular Glee star had declined an offer to become the new X Factor host, claiming he was too busy and more interested in being a performer than a host. But the actor assures his fans that the entire story has absolutely no merit. "I'm happy to say that that was not actually true," Criss told The Hollywood Reporter at the Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute Ball on May 7. "It was a classic example of people running with something that they didn't bother to check facts with."
Of course, this makes you wonder how many of the other rumors surrounding the show are pure fan-fiction as well...
Singer Demi Lovato is supposedly nearing a deal to sit alongside reported judge Britney Spears on the judges' panel, but until we hear from Demi and Britney themselves, we can't be certain either of these stories are true — though it'd be awfully hard for BritBrit to say no to her reported $15 million dollar deal.
Many media outlets believed Janet Jackson was in talks to become a judge as well, until her rep confirmed the singer had turned down the offer due to scheduling conflicts. The list of possible candidates just goes on, and on, and on. But there's got to be an end in sight given that auditions are scheduled to start at the end of the month... right?
If Simon Cowell is seriously hoping to fill this gaping void he left in his show — he better do it, and do it fast. I'm sick of all this back-and-forth.

Brand fans, rejoice: The Great Josh Brolin Fatigue has finally ended. After taking more than a year off from his last project, 2010's brilliant True Grit remake, the Oscar-nominated actor is back in action. With two high-profile films on his agenda for 2012, including the upcoming Men in Black III (in which he plays a younger version of his No Country for Old Men costar Tommy Lee Jones) and Gangster Squad, the ruggedly handsome 44-year-old star is returning to host Saturday Night Live.
While we'll still have to wait a few more days to watch Brolin take to the stage at Studio 8H for the first time since 2008, there's a promo spot featuring the actor with SNL cast member Fred Armisen to tide you over. It will feel especially worthwhile if you were hoping to catch a glimpse of the typically stoic Brolin boogying down, comparing goatees, or crying at the sounds of sad music. (Good luck when musical guest Gotye performs "Somebody That I Used To Know", Josh!)
But the spot will likely please an entirely different demographic from hardcore Brolin fans: People who have dreamed about punching Fred Armisen square in the face. (Perhaps on behalf of the beloved Peggy Olson?) Watch it here:
Have you missed Josh Brolin over the past year, too? Are you excited to see him use his oft-neglected dry sense of humor on Saturday Night Live? Or are you tuning in solely to watch the haunting Gotye perform? Is a Brolin Punch more effective than a Jovi Punch? Sound off in the comments section!

Music mogul Simon Cowell has been scrambling to find the talent show's new dream team ever since host Steve Jones and judges Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul were axed in January (12).
And now reports suggest former professional wrestler Keibler is in negotiations to front the programme.
A source tells the New York Post, "She looks fantastic and has bags of charisma."
Cowell has previously expressed his desire to sign both a male and female host to replace Welshman Jones, but recent reports suggest Glee star Darren Criss turned down a presenting gig due to scheduling issues.
Meanwhile, Britney Spears is allegedly on the cusp of signing a deal to join the judging panel alongside Cowell and producer Antonio 'L.A.' Reid.
Ever since the network cleaned house at The X Factor, Fox has been desperately searching for suitable replacements to fill the void Nicole Scherzinger, Paula Abdul, and Steve Jones left behind. And while several names have been tossed around throughout the past few months, the latest celeb on Simon Cowell's wish list is rumored to be none other than George Clooney's girlfriend, Stacy Keibler.
According to the New York Post, the former pro wrestler is said to be in secret talks to join the reality show, though no specific position was revealed. This means she could be up for either the hosting slot or even a role on the judging panel. But considering Keibler's lack of a musical background, insiders believe she'd be more suited as a host rather than a vocal expert.
“Stacy Keibler is also in talks to join the show, but her lack of experience in the music business may make her more appropriate as a host," an insider shared with the newspaper. "She looks fantastic and has bags of charisma.”
But, to play devil's advocate, it's certainly possible Cowell wants Keibler as an actual judge. A few years back, Idol proved judges don't necessarily need extensive singing experience in order to give out advice when Ellen DeGeneres joined the panel. Perhaps the network sees something unique in the model, which could help serve as a ratings goldmine (Clooney never hurts).
Meanwhile, another insider added insight on other potential additions to the cast, "Talks are still ongoing with Britney [Spears], and she is asking for a lot more money, than was originally offered. But producers are confident Britney will realize this is a great opportunity for her to reinvent herself and accept their deal.” Spears was supposedly offered around $10 million to join the judging panel, but talks reached a deadlock after she demanded a $20 million payday.
Glee star Darren Criss was also reportedly offered a position on the show, however, he declined the hosting job due to his already hectic schedule. But if the network is hoping to find someone to fill those open positions they better do it soon since auditions are already under way for Season Two, though the official start date has yet to be announced.
What role do you think Stacy Keibler would fit into better: X Factor judge or host?
