With the news that Elizabeth Hurley, a.k.a. eternal mega babe, will be joining Gossip Girl for a multi-episode story arc, we're just a little excited. This is just the kind of jumpstart the Manhattan socialites of the CW soap need. But it's not a new concept; we've watched other stars breathe a bit of new life into the show time and time again, and those times were good. To welcome Ms. Hurley to the GG family, here are a few of our other favorite Gossip Girl guests.
Gossip Girl alter ego: Olivia Burke the famous actress, NYU student, Dan's one-time girlfriend and threesome instigator.
Alright, this little stunt probably wasn't that great for her career, because while Duff played an amplified version of herself on the soap, she also attached two memorable (not to mention controversial) Gossip Girl moments to her resume. I don't know about you, but I know think of her as the girl that introduced Dan and Vanessa to threesomes and the girl who fakes a vampire orgasm is some two-bit Twilight ripoff that her character is famous for.
Gossip Girl alter ego: Ursula Nyquist, crazy person and costar to Olivia Burke.
Tyra is hands down my favorite guest star on Gossip Girl, ever. Why? Because she's simultaneously completely nuts and a total cheeseball. Her character flips between mental breakdown and unstoppable elation at every turn, plus her delivery hasn't changed since she made that 90s movie where she plays a Barbie come to life. Who better to play opposite Hilary Duff's terrible French accent in the preposterous movie at the center of Tyra's guest spot?
Gossip Girl alter ego: Cyrus Rose, the best stepdad Blair Waldorf could ever hope for.
I'm still not sure Shawn decided to take on a character on GG, but I'm glad he did. In this role that rears its head whenever Blair most needs him, Shawn is a refreshing, adorable father figure who may be shorter than every single person on set, but makes up for it by being the most genuine person on the show.
Gossip Girl alter ego: Georgina Sparks a.k.a. TROUBLE.
The ultimate celeb guest star -- though she never seems to really go away -- is a girl many of us knew as Buffy's little sister. Michelle Trachtenberg has always been great at stirring the pot, and no one is a better pot stirrer than her GG alter ego Georgina Sparks. Whether she's exposing Serena's unsavory past and stealing her boyfriend or coming back from Christian camp with a sudden new, albeit terrifying, lease on life, Georgina's a welcome pain on the CW series.
Gossip Girl alter ego: Lady Gaga, because if it ain't broke don't fix it.
Alright, so she really didn't participate much in her guest spot. Everyone else plays a character, everyone else contributes to the story, blah blah blah. Gaga, as an NYU alum, gives a killer private performance and help Blair win over the artsy NYU brats -- I'd say that's pretty darn significant. Plus, look at this incredible performance. (It's cheesy, but your argument is still invalid.)
Gossip Girl is getting a little dose of Britishness next season with the addition of Elizabeth Hurley. Fresh off of NBC dropping the Wonder Woman pilot that had her playing a villainess is a super tight dress, Hurley is picking right back up by jumping into something even better: the catty Upper East Side drama on the CW staple.
The 45-year-old freak of nature (because seriously, who looks that good for that long?) will be joining the teen drama for a multi-episode arc and according to TVLine, she'll be stirring up a little trouble. Then again, what newcomer on Gossip Girl has ever been added for any reason other than to shake everything up? (No one, that's who.) The show's producers told TVLine that Hurley's character, the presumably aptly named Diana Payne, is "a sexy, smart, self-made media mogul and all-around force to be reckoned with. Diana’s entrance on the Upper East Side will change the lives of all our characters — including, and especially, Gossip Girl herself."
Wait, so we're actually going back to that place in time when everyone on the show still wanted to find out who this mysterious Gossip Girl actually is? We haven't forgotten about that? Let's hope that's what this vague description is referring to. The potential unmasking or at least some serious miffing of Gossip Girl is the best wasted storyline the show's seen in a while, so if that theme is, in fact, coming back around and Liz Hurley is driving the charge, I'll be on board.
The Austin Powers star was due to make an onscreen return as a villain in the revamp of Wonder Woman, before TV bosses shelved the programme earlier this year (11).
But now Hurley's set to hit TV screens, playing New York media mogul Diana Payne in Gossip Girl's upcoming fifth season.
A statement from the show's executive producers, Stephanie Savage and Joshua Safran, reads, "Diana's entrance on the Upper East Side will change the lives of all our characters - including, and especially, Gossip Girl herself.
"Elizabeth's sense of humour, intelligence and beauty fit the GG world perfectly. We feel very fortunate to have her."
The TV star has been linked to a series of beauties, including British model/actress Kelly Brook, but he only had eyes for one woman at the Rocket Man's lavish fundraising party last Thursday (23Jun11) when he took along his new love, model Renee Puente.
A source tells JustJared.com, "They looked really cute together. Matt held Renee's hand during the event and in the car as they were leaving."
And the party was an impressive one to take the lucky lady to - George Michael provided the entertainment for the likes of British model/actress Elizabeth Hurley and funnyman David Walliams.
The Austin Powers star's relationship with the Aussie sportsman emerged last year (10) and in the wake of the revelations, the British beauty confirmed she had split from her husband Arun Nayar several months earlier.
Their divorce was granted earlier this month (Jun11) and Hurley has now told of her fondness for Warne, insisting she was "instantly" attracted to him the moment they first met - but she admits their romance is a "challenge" because they live on opposite sides of the world.
She tells Britain's Grazia magazine, "We come from very different worlds so I see that's fascinating, if not odd, to many (fans). But it's not often you meet people you instantly feel comfortable with, and when you find that - even if there are vast differences in background and experiences - it's worth following through.
"When you recognise you have a lot in common with someone it's nice to explore. The biggest problem is we're 23 hours apart. It's a challenge. We'll see what happens."
"As you get older it's the grooming - unkempt doesn't work. At 19 you can have buttons hanging off and stringy hair, but as we get older we look like bag ladies if we let things slide." British actress/model Elizabeth Hurley puts more effort into her appearance as she ages.
The couple split last year (10) and their divorce was made official earlier this month (Jun11), while the model/actress has gone on to date cricket star Shane Warne.
The break up was amicable and Nayar admits he still spends many weekends at the home they previously shared in the English countryside so he can spend time with nine-year-old Damian, Hurley's son from a previous relationship.
He tells Britain's Sunday Express, "He's a wonderful boy. He's a weekly boarder (at school) so I can catch up with him at weekends. And all of us love spending time on the farm, feeding the pigs in the morning and messing about."
The British model/actress wed the Indian businessman in 2007, but the marriage crumbled last year (10) and she announced the split in December (10).
Hurley was prompted to make her separation public following reports she had spent two nights at a London hotel with cricket ace Shane Warne, who also confirmed his own marriage had been over for some time. The sportsman is now publicly dating the brunette beauty.
Hurley and Nayar began divorce proceedings in April (11) and a judge at London's High Court issued them with a decree nisi on Wednesday. Neither were present at the brief court hearing, during which District Judge Penny Cushing confirmed the relationship had "broken down irretrievably" and would be officially dissolved within six weeks, according to Britain's Daily Mail.
Last Friday, Tracy Morgan did a standup comedy bit that was pretty shockingly homophobic. A guy named Kevin Rogers attended Morgan's show and he summed up Morgan's comments on his Facebook page. He wrote, "[Morgan] said that if his son was gay he better come home and talk to him like a man and not [he mimicked a gay, high pitched voice] or he would pull out a knife and stab that little N (one word I refuse to use) to death. He took some time to visit the bulls*it of this bullying stuff and informed us that gays needed to quit being pussies and not be whining about something as insignificant as bullying. He mentioned that gay was something kids learn from the media and programming, and that bullied kids should just bust some ass and beat those other little f*ckers that bully them, not whine about it." Morgan's rant did eventually end, but not on a high note either -- Rogers described the end of the rant as follows: "Tracy then said he didn't fucking care if he pissed off some gays, because if they can take a f*cking dick up their ass...they can take a f*cking joke." Uhhhh.... - Kevin Roger's Facebook
Emma Watson has been accepted to Oxford University, and she's expected to start studying English there at the Worcester College in October. In April, she withdrew from Brown University in Rhode Island and wrote on her website that the reason for her departure was because she wanted to focus more on "other projects." However earlier this month, Watson said she didn't really consider how much of a celebrity she was and how she was incapable of being just another college student. She said, "I was in denial. I wanted to pretend I wasn't as famous as I was. I was trying to seek out normality, but I kind of have to accept who I am, the position I'm in and what happened." Prince William and Kate Middleton attended their first black tie gala as husband and wife last night in London. The event was to benefit the Absolute Return for Kids foundation, which helps children in Africa, Romania, India and the U.K. By the end of the night, $28 million was donated to the charity. Kate wore a pink silk tulle gown by British designer Jenny Packham, and Prince William wore a regular black tux. Also in attendance at the event were Elizabeth Hurley, Kevin Spacey and Tom Ford. - People
