The little known TV star reportedly wowed producers and director Adam Shankman in auditions and he has been added to the cast alongside Tom Cruise, Julianne Hough and Mary J. Blige, according to Variety.
With the main casting complete, the film will go before the cameras in Florida on 19 May (11).
The film is an adaptation of hit stageshow Rock of Ages, which uses the music of Journey, Bon Jovi and Joan Jett, among others, to tell the story of a couple who meet and fall in love at a Sunset Strip club in Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, Cruise's wife Katie Holmes reveals her husband is deadly serious about his first big screen song-and-dance role: "He's so excited to do it... He's thrilled."
The big screen adaptation of the Broadway show already boasts a star-studded cast, including Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin and Mary J. Blige, and Shankman is looking for an acting newcomer to fill the role of Drew Boley.
