Angelina Jolie has issued her first statement as a newly-married woman - but it has nothing to do with her nuptials. The actress and activist has made the most of the interest in her following her top secret wedding in France a week ago (23Aug14) by shining the spotlight on the plight of refugees fleeing the civil war in Syria.
As fans waited for word from Jolie or Brad Pitt about their wedding ceremony, the Wanted star, who is also special envoy to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, used the interest to raise awareness.
In a statement released on Friday (29Aug14), she wrote, "Three million refugees is not just another statistic. It is a searing indictment of our collective failure to end the war in Syria.
"International stability is steadily bleeding away in Syria. UN Security Council Resolutions are being ignored; war crimes are being committed on a daily basis; regional countries are staggering under the human burden; and Syrian refugees are dying in the Mediterranean sea, trying to reach Europe.
"We need to see a new attempt to resolve the conflict and greater efforts to support more than 13 million Syrians who are in desperate need. The reputation and credibility of the international system is at stake with so many thousands of lives threatened in Syria."
Newlywed Angelina Jolie has kickstarted her Maltese honeymoon early without new husband Brad Pitt. The couple wed in secret in France last weekend (23Aug14) and now the blushing bride has jetted off to Gozo to prepare for the couple's upcoming working honeymoon.
Pitt and Jolie will play a married couple who become sexually obsessed with their neighbours in new film By The Sea, which Jolie has written, and the movie will be shot on location in Malta and Gozo.
Jolie was photographed wearing her new wedding band as she arrived for pre-production on the project on Wednesday (27Aug14) and Pitt is expected to join her this weekend (30-31Aug14).
A local source claims Jolie took a helicopter tour of the three main Maltese islands and then dined at top restaurant Ta' Frenc, where she and Pitt previously enjoyed a romantic dinner during a trip to the islands.
The actress will also direct herself and Pitt in the film.
Actress Katie Holmes is breathing a sigh of relief after her daughter Suri Cruise's lost dog was found alive and well.
Chihuahua Honey went missing during a visit to a friend's house in Benedict Canyon, near Beverly Hills, California last weekend (23-24Aug14), just weeks after Holmes adopted her.
The worried Batman Begins star plastered posters around the neighbourhood alerting locals to the dog's disappearance and even offered up a $1,000 (£588) reward for the pet's safe return, but the search was called off on Wednesday (27Aug14) after officials at the Lucky Puppy Rescue organization located the pooch not far from where she disappeared.
Suri's furry friend was subsequently checked out by a vet and given the all-clear to return home, reports TMZ.com. Suri, eight, is Holmes' daughter from her marriage to Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise.
Britney Spears has confirmed reports her romance with David Lucado is over.
The couple has been dating for 18 months but the love affair has officially come to an end.
After online bloggers suggested a video of Lucado with another girl is being shopped around news outlets, Spears took to her Twitter.com account on Thursday (28Aug14) and wrote, "Ahhhh the single life!" Spears' publicist also confirmed the split to Billboard.com and said, "Yes, she's single."
The news of their breakup comes days after Spears invited Lucado on stage during her Las Vegas Britney: Piece of Me show on Saturday (23Aug14). During the sexy performance, he had a leash tied around his neck and was led around on all fours by Spears.
Lucado and Spears started dating in March 2013, shortly after the singer called off her engagement to former manager Jason Trawick.
Model and actress Sophie Monk called police to her New South Wales home in Australia early on Thursday morning (28Aug14) after she spotted an intruder.
Reports suggest her call for help was made at 4am local time and Monk later took to Twitter.com to tell fans she was "freaked" by the incident.
Ironically, the drama took place two days after Monk’s alleged cyber stalker, James McCabe, made his third appearance in a Tasmanian court. The 30 year old allegedly sent Monk a series of offensive, sexually explicit messages that included threats of harm aimed at her family and friends.
McCabe has pleaded not guilty and was bailed on condition he doesn't contact or harass Monk.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have been given a very special wedding present - a pair of rescued chinchillas.
The couple wed in secret in France at the weekend (23Aug14) and now activists at PETA have honoured the animal-loving pair by naming two newly-free pets after them. Brad and Angelina are up for adoption at PETA's Virginia headquarters after the organisation's leaders closed down one of the largest chinchilla ranches in California.
Announcing the furry wedding gift, PETA senior vice president Lisa Lange tells WENN, "Among Brad's and Angelina's kind acts are their animal rescues, as well as making their wardrobes fur-free, so naming two of PETA's rescued chinchillas in their honour seems an apt wedding present. "We can all follow this couple's great example, and help chinchillas like Brad and Angelina, by refusing to wear any real animal fur."
The pets are two of more than 400 chinchillas rescued from Valley View Chinchilla Ranch, where animals deemed not suitable as pets were electrocuted and skinned so their pelts could be made into bedspreads, coats and scarves. PETA bosses have sent the newlyweds a letter alerting them to their wedding present.
Angelina Jolie's actor father Jon Voight is "happy" for his daughter and her new husband Brad Pitt after learning of the couple's top secret nuptials in France. The Tomb Raider star wed the Hollywood actor in Correns, France on Saturday (23Aug14), and their wedding was a very private affair, attended by close friends, family members and couple's six children.
However, Jolie's father Voight was not among the small group of guests, and it appears he knew nothing of the ceremony as he prepared for Monday's Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, where he was nominated for his role in Ray Donovan.
After news of the nuptials broke on Thursday (28Aug14), Voight released a statement wishing his daughter and her new husband all the best.
He says, "It sounds like it was a wonderful wedding. It must have been very beautiful with the kids participating... They were able to do it very quietly. I'm very happy for them."
The nondenominational civil ceremony was officiated by a Californian judge, who gave Jolie and Pitt their marriage licence in the U.S. before flying out to France to oversee the nuptials.
Singer Shakira is pregnant with her second child.
The Hips Don't Lie hitmaker is expecting another baby with boyfriend Gerard Pique. Shakira and the soccer star are already parents to 18-month-old Milan.
The 37-year-old singer has confirmed the happy news in the upcoming Mexican issue of Cosmopolitan magazine, stating, "Yes, I'm pregnant."
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have stunned Hollywood by announcing they tied the knot in a secret ceremony on Saturday (23Aug14).
The Tomb Raider star wed the Hollywood actor at a small chapel at Chateau Miraval in Correns, France, a spokesman for the couple confirms.
The private, nondenominational civil ceremony was attended by family and friends of the superstar couple, and was conducted by a Californian judge, who gave Jolie and Pitt their marriage licence in the U.S.
The couple's six children were all involved in the wedding - Maddox and Pax walked Jolie down the aisle, Shiloh and Knox were ring bearers, while Zahara and Vivienne threw flower petals. Shiloh, eight, and twins Knox and Vivienne, six, are the couple's biological children while Maddox, 13, Pax, 11, and Zahara, nine, are adopted.

Beyonce's father Mathew Knowles is convinced speculation that her marriage to Jay Z was on the rocks was created to boost ticket sales for their joint tour.
The couple was hit with split rumours during its On The Run trek, which began in June (14), and neither of the stars spoke publicly to defend their six-year marriage or deny the reports.
Beyonce's mother Tina blasted the speculation, insisting "everything's perfect", and now the former Destiny's Child star's dad and ex-manager Mathew has accused promoters of encouraging the rumours to drum up interest in the concerts. He tells Texas radio station 104.1 KRBE, "I know, because we've done this from experience. There's a tour going on, so you sometimes have to ignite that tour. It's called a Jedi mind trick. The Jedi mind trick fools you a lot at time."
Mathew Knowles also alludes to the infamous elevator bust-up between Jay Z and his sister-in-law Solange Knowles in May (14), adding, "All I know is the Jedi mind trick. Everyone's talking about it. Ticket sales went up. Solange's album sales went up 200 per cent!"
The On The Run Tour concludes in Paris, France in September (14).
