Casey Kasem's daughters believe the beloved broadcaster has been secretly laid to rest and his widow is playing "games" with her stepchildren, after they stripped her of guardianship shortly before the radio presenter died last month (Jun14). Julie and Kerri Kasem, who was granted the authority to oversee her dad's final days in hospital, appeared on U.S. news show Access Hollywood Live on Monday (21Jul14), days after revealing their father's remains had gone missing.
The appearance came a day after Kasem's widow, Jean, told CNN she knew where her late husband's body was.
Kerri Kasem said, "The last I heard... is that he's probably buried here and she's just playing games. This is not a shocker. She put on the death certificate that she's been living in Jerusalem for 18 years, she also told the funeral home that she was going to take him to France and put him there... It's just games. She thinks she's gonna upset us and that's not gonna happen. It's sad.
"The last thing I heard from a neighbour was that they saw the family going to a funeral, and it was probably right here in Los Angeles. It could've been another funeral, but that's the closest thing that we've gotten."
Sister Julie added, "Her lawyers specifically told us, 'When your father is buried, we will let you know where...' We will never know where he is buried unless we can get a private detective or lawyers involved... It's a game.
"The last we heard he's going to be buried in Montreal, Canada. He has no family there, I don't think he's ever been there.
"This is nothing new; it's been like this for 34 years... The silver lining is that we got to be with our dad at the end of his life and we know his spirit is here, and that's the most important thing."
But Kerri claims police officials in Santa Monica are investigating where Kasem has been laid to rest, because they're still hoping to complete an autopsy that his widow started.
She explained, "She immediately had an autopsy done, I'm sure to disprove things, but the autopsy is incomplete. Medical records were not given to the guy doing the autopsy. I had to actually go in and ask for an autopsy myself just to find out my dad was still in Washington... I wanted to know where my dad was.
"The minute my dad died, everything went back to my stepmother, so I had nothing to do with where he was at or where he was going to be buried."
Stars including Robert Redford, Whoopi Goldberg, and Francis Ford Coppola gathered in California over the weekend (19-20Jul14) to pay tribute to Oscar-winning actress Sophia Loren.
The Italian beauty was honoured at the annual Napa Valley Festival del Sole in Oakville, California on Saturday night (19Jul14), and several Hollywood stars attended the event.
Goldberg recalled how her mother advised her to view Loren as a role model when she first got into acting, and Redford praised the Two Women actress for rising out of her working class roots to become a major movie star.
Apocalypse Now director Ford Coppola raised a few smiles when he told guests he had enrolled on a scholarship at a military academy as a young man and kept his spirits up by pinning a photograph of a young Loren to a wall at his quarters.
Goodfellas actor Robert De Niro and former U.S. President Bill Clinton were among those who sent video tributes to the 79-year-old actress.
Guests were treated to an outdoor performance of a specially-written piece by composer Daniel Brewbaker, followed by a $700 (£411)-a-head dinner. The Bella Italia: A Tribute to Sophia Loren event took place at the Far Niente Winery in Oakville.
Scarlett Johansson is to marry her French fiance in August (14), according to a U.S. report.
The Avengers star, who now lives in Paris, France, is expecting a baby with her partner Romain Dauriac and they will tie the knot in just four weeks' time, reports the New York Post's gossip column Page Six.
No further details have been revealed, but the publication's editors suggest the ceremony will take place in either Johansson's native New York or the French capital. Johansson became engaged to the journalist in September (13).
She was previously married to actor Ryan Reynolds.
Actress Jessica Chastain will be feted at the upcoming Deauville American Film Festival in France in recognition of her impressive career . The Zero Dark Thirty star has been named an honouree at the annual festival dedicated to American cinema, which will take place from 5 to 14 September (14).
Festival director Bruno Barde has praised Chastain's work in a statement, which reads: "The tribute is a token of our affection, admiration, recognition and esteem for the talent of the recipient... We have been paying tribute to those actresses who embody the cinema of today and who will form the legacy of tomorrow.
"When we first discovered Jessica Chastain, we had the definite feeling that here was someone special on-screen. Through her successive roles, she has confirmed her emotional capacity to grab the limelight. We salute her grace and talent and the beauty of the truth she brings to her performance."
Previous Deauville honourees include Julianne Moore, Annette Bening, Susan Sarandon, Robin Wright and Naomi Watts.
This isn't Chastain's first recognition from Deauville organisers - in 2011, she received the New Hollywood award for her work in Take Shelter, which also won the festival's Grand Prize.
Colin Firth was left baffled by Woody Allen's lack of direction on the set of new period drama Magic In The Moonlight, because the revered filmmaker often insisted the British actor should do "whatever" he wanted. The King's Speech star portrays a cynical 1920s illusionist who is hired to expose Emma Stone's fortune teller character as a fake during a week-long holiday in the South of France.
His part required him to perform a number of soliloquies, but Firth admits he really had no idea what he was doing during certain scenes as Allen's method of filmmaking at times involved very little instruction.
Recalling one scene, in which his character Stanley recites a prayer to God, he explains, "In this case (of the soliloquy), there really is nobody else (in the scene) but the all-seeing eye of the director, who, if he is happy, you just hear the sound of the crew packing up and going off to shoot something else...!
"If he wanted to be very specific about something, you'd hear a lot from him. And sometimes he'd just say, 'Do whatever, you know, whatever you want. If you wanna change it...'.
"Well, I didn't know what I wanted most of the time, I just wanted to know what he wanted! I would do something and then he would just (say), 'That's not it', or he might come up and say, 'That was funny, if only to me...'"
Siegfried & Roy star Roy Horn insists he would be dead if his white tiger Montecore had not attempted to drag the entertainer to safety after he suffered a stroke onstage during a Las Vegas show in 2003.
At the time, many fans feared the big cat had attacked the showman, speculating that Montecore had become spooked by a man in the audience, but Horn has always maintained that his tiger actually saved his life.
Horn tells Entertainment Tonight, "I got a stroke and I fall down and I seen the blue eyes (of Montecore) still looking at me, like, 'What now? What happened?' "So he did what every cat would do when they're little - he picked me up by the neck and tried to carry me to the side for he know we were safe (sic). He took care of me. He severed my artery and it was an absolute blessing."
Horn claims that if Montecore hadn't released the pressure, his owner would have been left brain dead. He adds, "I could have been a vegetable."
Horn reveals the worst wasn't over - he had three operations following the ill-fated performance and he suffered more strokes on the operating table: "I died clinically three times." Montecore died earlier this year (14).
The stage adaptation of Gene Kelly's classic film An American In Paris is heading to Broadway next year (15). The 1951 movie about an American soldier falling in love in post-war Paris, France, which was inspired by George Gershwin's 1928 orchestral composition of the same name, has found a home at New York City's Palace Theater.
The venue is soon to be vacated by Tupac Shakur musical Holler If Ya Hear Me, which closes on Sunday (20Jul14).
An American in Paris, directed and choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon, will appropriately have its world premiere at the French capital's Theatre du Chatelet this December (14) for a limited run.
The production will then head to the Great White Way, with previews beginning 13 March (15).
Manuel Noriega, Panama's fallen dictator, is suing the brains behind Call of Duty over his depiction in the hit video game. The incarcerated ex-leader filed suit against Activision Blizzard Inc. bosses on Tuesday (15Jul14) for using his name without permission in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.
The lawsuit, obtained by the Los Angeles Times, reads: "Defendants' use of plaintiff's image and likeness caused damage to plaintiff. Plaintiff was portrayed as an antagonist and portrayed as the culprit of numerous fictional heinous crimes, creating the false impression that defendants are authorized to use plaintiff's image and likeness."
Noriega was convicted of drug dealing, racketeering and money laundering in 1992. He has spent the past two decades behind bars in the U.S., France and Panama.
Upon its release in 2013, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 became the biggest entertainment launch of all time. Its records were broken last year (13) by Grand Theft Auto V.
Ironically, Lindsay Lohan recently launched a suit against the makers of Grand Theft Auto V over the alleged use of her image for a character in the game.
Actor Chace Crawford is single again after splitting from his girlfriend.
The Gossip Girl star has been dating model Rachelle Goulding since early last year (13), but Crawford has now confirmed the romance is over.
During an appearance on The Kyle and Jackie O Show on Australian radio station KIIS 1065 on Wednesday (16Jul14), Crawford was asked whether he is still dating "that Canadian model... the hot chick," and he replied, "Ah, no. I'm not. I'm not... It's totally good. It's totally good. You have fun."
When pressed about the breakup, the star blamed the split on moving from New York to Los Angeles, explaining, "I actually moved out of New York, I live in L.A. now," and he is embracing single life as he settles into California, adding, "I am travelling too much right now (for a relationship). I am just trying to move in and I have a couple of independent films (I am working on) right now."
Australian catwalk star Ashley Hart is engaged to fellow model Buck Palmer. The blonde beauty, younger sister of supermodel Jessica Hart, accepted Palmer's proposal during a vacation in the south of France last week (ends13Jul14).
Hart reveals her partner popped the question on the beach after they swam out to a private cove.
She tells Australia's Herald Sun newspaper, "He asked me to stand and got down on one knee, pulled out a gorgeous little ring that looked like the sunshine, a yellow diamond on a... gold band... 'Can we jump in the water I asked?' Needing to make this moment feel real... we splashed and kissed, did somersaults and I yelled at the top of my lungs, 'Yes'!"
