Alabama 3 musician dies

One of the musicians behind The Sopranos’ TV theme tune has died.
Alabama 3 singer Jake Black, also known as The Very Reverend D.Wayne Love, passed away on Tuesday (21May19).
The surviving members of the British electronic group shared the news with fans in a tribute on Facebook, just days after Black was taken ill following a gig in the U.K. on Friday.
“Early this afternoon, on a beautiful summer’s day, our friend, comrade and spiritual teacher, Jake Black AKA The Very Reverend D.Wayne Love, passed over to the higher ground,” read the statement.
“After a magnificent performance at the Highpoint Festival in Lancashire, D.Wayne in his supreme wisdom, decided it was the appropriate moment for his ascencion (sic) into the next level.”
They did not reveal a cause of death, but claimed Black’s passing was “painless and peaceful”.
Black, a native of Glasgow, Scotland, co-founded Alabama 3 with fellow singer Rob Spragg in 1995.
They became known for their fusion of electronic tunes, country, acid house, and blues, but scored the biggest hit of their careers with Woke Up This Morning, which featured on their 1997 album Exile on Coldharbour Lane.
The Chosen One Mix of the tune was subsequently chosen as the theme song for hit mob drama The Sopranos, which ran for six seasons until 2007.
