Rockers Black Rebel Motorcycle Club are appealing to fans to donate money to help drummer Leah Shapiro cover the costs of her recent brain surgery. The group cancelled a string of gigs earlier this month (Oct14) to allow Shapiro to undergo the operation after she was diagnosed with Chiari malformations, a condition which can put pressure on the brain and cause symptoms including headaches and depression.
She is now recovering from the surgery, and on Thursday (23Oct14), her bandmates launched a crowdfunding campaign on GoFundMe.com to contribute to her mounting medical fees.
A message on the page reads: "Leah has a serious medical condition requiring brain surgery and months of recovery. Many of you have asked what you can do to help support her and help her get through this, and I think we should all put a dollar in the motorcycle helmet and pass it around... All donations will go towards Leah's surgery and recovery."
The Pass the Helmet for Leah fundraising effort had raised more than $15,000 (£9,375) of its $33,300 (£20,813) target as WENN went to press.
Shapiro joined the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club in 2008, when she replaced founding member Nick Jago.
America’s Got Talent host Nick Cannon and Dancing With The Stars judge Julianne Hough teamed up with Samsung to smash the Guinness World Record for the longest selfie relay chain with 283 consecutive selfies. The event was to promote Samsung’s next generation of digital cameras - the new NX line. The cameras are slimmer, sleeker and have the ability to connect to smartphones. Samsung gave out 300 of their brand new cameras as they called for people to "Ditch the DSLR" in exchange for the new Samsung devices. Despite his pending divorce to Mariah Carey - which seems to be getting ugly - Cannon is “getting out there" with seemingly endless projects he has keeping him busy. Cannon just wrapped the 9th season of America’s Got Talent alongside judges Howard Stern, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Mel B. The winner, magician Mat Franco, was awarded $1 million and a headlining show in Las Vegas. Cannon is all for a magician winning the talent competition show, saying: “There’s so many other singing competitions and dance shows out there. For someone like a magician to be able to come through and win $1 million, it shows you what the show’s all about - it could be any talent. I mean, he was the best and most talented person that America saw. So, therefore, he took it all the way, and I think it was well deserved.”
It seems like keeping busy is the best way to keep his mind off his marriage troubles. He has a new standup comedy show for Showtime called F#ck Nick Cannon, an album White People Party Music (the new music video for "Looking For a Dream" is quite exceptional by the way). Oh, and he’s writing a children’s book based on his and Carey’s twins Roc & Roe. He also recently rocked the most expensive pair of shoes ever - a $2 million pair of diamond loafers - marking two Guinness world records he's broken. Not too shabby. This guy is certainly not moping around while his soon to be ex-wife is on a world tour.
Cannon also has a couple works that are under the radar. He’s going to be bringing Robin Leach's Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous back to TV. And he recently partnered with Maxim - he’ll be taking over the magazine’s content as well as heading strategic events. “I’ll be doing my thing… so that’s kinda cool.” Keep doing your thing, Cannon. It’s very cool indeed.
Cannon also stars on BET’s Real Husbands of Hollywood alongside Kevin Hart, Nelly, Boris Kodjoe, Duane Martin and J.B. Smoove. "The fakest reality show on TV" just premiered its third season. Catch new episodes of the hilarious show Tuesday nights at 10 p.m. on BET.
Rapper Drake is reportedly stuck on the Carribean island of St. Martin amid severe weather warnings over Hurricane Gonzalo. The hip-hop star flew to the island on Friday (10Oct14) to direct and star in a music promo with rapper P. Reign for their collaborative track DnF.
The pair also threw a single release party at a nightclub over the weekend (11-12Oct14), but while the rapper made it off the island in a private jet before the weather hit, his pop pal was not so lucky.
P. Reign wrote on Twitter.com on Monday (13Oct14), "Made it off that island in the nick of time. Thank God for private jets. Everybody else in the crew stuck in St. Martin for days. Hurricane."
Editors at New York Post gossip column Page Six report that Drake was left stranded as many flights were cancelled due to hurricane warnings.
Singer Josh Groban and actress Kat Dennings are reportedly dating. The couple made its red carpet debut at the Carousel of Hope Ball in Beverly Hills, California on Saturday (11Oct14), where the two stars appeared to be smitten with each other.
A source tells Eonline.com, "They were so cute together! They were adorable on the carpet. She was whispering in his ear a lot and they seemed really happy."
The 2 Broke Girls star later posted a picture of the pair at the event on her Instagram.com page.
Groban was previously linked to actress January Jones, while Dennings previously dated actor Nick Zano.
Eccentric pop star Bjork has pulled out of plans to perform at the premiere of her new concert film at the London Film Festival on Thursday night (09Oct14). The It's Oh So Quiet hitmaker had been expected to attend the screening of Biophilia Live at the Odeon West End and treat fans and guests to a short set, but she has decided to skip the event in favour of working on new music.
A statement posted on Bjork's Facebook.com page reads: "We are so sorry, but since Bjork is already working on her next album (out in 2015!) she cannot come to the 'Biophilia Live' premiere at the London Film Festival this week. Many sorries, and be well (sic)."
The film, directed by Peter Strickland and Nick Fenton, was shot at London's Alexandra Palace in September, 2013, on the final night of the singer's U.K. tour, which featured a series of multi-media designs and installations inspired by award-winning naturalist Sir David Attenborough.
Lupita Nyong'o walked away from a role in a Broadway show to take a part in the new Star Wars movie, according to a U.S. report.
The 12 Years A Slave star was reportedly offered the chance to make her debut on the Great White Way opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in a production of Nick Payne's play Constellations, but turned it down. Editors of the New York Post's Page Six gossip column report Nyong'o walked away from the role so she could appear in upcoming blockbuster Star Wars: Episode VII.
British actress Ruth Wilson has signed up to star with Gyllenhaal in Constellations. Representatives from the show declined to comment.
America's Got Talent host Nick Cannon wore a pair of diamond encrusted loafers worth $2 million (£1.3 million) for the show's finale on Wednesday (17Sept14).
The presenter showed off the $2 million (£1.3 million) footwear on in a picture posted on Women's Wear Daily's Instagram page ahead of the reality TV installment, writing, "A million each foot... Pow!" The shoes hold more than 14,000 full-cut diamonds set in white gold with a weight of 340 carats and were created by Jason Arashenen. The designer reveals Cannon approached him about the special project in 2013, saying, "Not very often do I get a request for the most expensive shoes in the world. When Nick approached me last year, he said he wanted to make history and be so over-the-top. He wanted to set a new standard in diamonds."
The pricey shoes are being considered by Guinness Book of World Records officials to be listed as the Most Valuable Pair of Shoes in the world. Cannon split from his superstar wife Mariah Carey last month (Sep14).
Gene Simmons' son Nick is following in his rocker father's footsteps by forming his own band. Nick Simmons, 25, reveals he has been busy recording material with the as-yet-unnamed group and cannot wait to share the music, which he has likened to the sounds of The Black Keys.
He tells the New York Post's Page Six column, "The new band is not so new, I've just been waiting to get it right. We don't even have a name yet. We have all the demos ready and hopefully you'll see something from us soon."
And the Simmons offspring is well prepared for music critics to compare him to the KISS icon.
He says, "That's going to happen anyway, so I might as well do what I love in the meantime."
Nick is Gene Simmons' son with model/actress Shannon Tweed. The couple is also parents to daughter Sophie, 22.
Almost a year has passed since the tragic end of the Jonas Brothers, yet we still can’t seem to accept the fact that this trio is no more. I mean, they’re brothers, right!? They can’t just break up! Since apparently they were serious about ending the band last October, does this make my autographed kickball that I won during the “Jonas Brothers World Tour 2009” more valuable? I was told there were only 40 others in the world, so it’s practically the equivalence of gold (just kidding.. I could never part with it). BUT on a happy note, we can expect a good year for Nick Jonas.
After releasing his new song and video “Chains,” he continues to post photos from rehearsals and our anticipation keeps building and building. We expect a list of tour dates in the near future, Nick!
In honor of all fangirls hearts still being broken, we’d like to take a moment of silence and remember the good times with Nick, Joe and Kevin:
When Nick stared out to the crowd and we all fell to our knees sobbing uncontrollably.
Then they would do cool tricks to keep us screaming our heads off.
Kevin was almost too flawless on J.O.N.A.S.
When the “Pom Poms” video came out and we all died a little when Nick got down with the groove.
Every interview they've ever done was better than the last. God, we just miss these faces.
This exact quote came out of our mouths. More than once. Maybe 15 times. Give or take 30.
This beautiful face. How can you not miss this beautiful face?
We miss when they would make the most random yet beautifully concepted videos in the world. Bounce... just bounce.
These darn boys and their shenanigans!
Nick playing drums was always a favorite of ours. So much in fact that we would record it and watch it a hundred times on the drive home.
Then their flawlessness was broadcasted for everyone to enjoy when they appeared on “Saturday Night Live."
Joe had some killer moves.
Basically, this was us. Except the entire wall was covered. And part of the ceiling. Okay, maybe majority of the ceiling.
Sometimes Nick smiled with his teeth and even kittens cried in awe.
As much as we loved Demi Lovato, no. Back off of our man.
Right back atchya Kev.
Farewell boys, it’s been a great ride.
We’re going to continue crying in a corner now and pray this is just the worst and longest joke to ever exist. After we watch the 3D Concert Experience and Camp Rock.
A representative for Will Arnett has dismissed rumours suggesting the actor has struck up a romance with a fashion consultant in the aftermath of his split from comedienne Amy Poehler. The Arrested Development star split from Poehler in 2012, and he filed divorce papers in April (14) to make the break-up official.
Reports suggested Arnett is now dating fashion consultant Danielle de Marne, but a spokesperson for the actor is adamant the romance rumours are not true.
The rep tells New York Post gossip column Page Six, "They are 100 per cent, unequivocally not dating."
Saturday Night Live star Poehler has been linked to funnyman Nick Kroll following the breakdown of her marriage to Arnett.
