Filmmakers Randall Miller and Jody Savin have broken their silence following the death of a camera assistant on their Allman Brothers biopic Midnight Rider, insisting they have committed no crime. Director Miller and his writer/producer wife were shooting a dream sequence on a train trestle in Wayne County, Georgia in February (14) when an oncoming train disrupted filming. Sarah Jones lost her life when the train hit her.
The filmmakers, who surrendered to local authorities on Sunday (13Jul14), have pleaded not guilty to the criminal charges filed against them, and now they've released a statement through their attorney.
Miller and Savin write, "In the weeks and months that follow when the true facts of the events are revealed, people will know that this was not a crime: we never had criminal intent; we would never knowingly or intentionally put anybody’s safety at risk. This was a horrible tragedy and a horrific accident.
"We have remained silent out of respect for the family of Sarah Jones, their loved ones and all of the crew who were injured on that very sad day.
"Our hearts are broken, our spirits are broken. We have young children and can only imagine with immense sadness the heartbreak of losing a child. We are praying for Sarah’s family."
A third producer, Jay Sedrish, turned himself in to police in Georgia on Thursday (17Jul14).
The trio has been indicted on charges of involuntary manslaughter and criminal trespass.
Several civil suits have also been filed against MIller, Savin, Sedrish and other individuals and entities associated with the film.
Outkast are returning to their native Atlanta, Georgia to curate and headline a homecoming show in September (14). The duo reformed earlier this year (14) for a series of summer festivals and now Andre 3000 and Big Boi have announced plans for a huge gig in their home city.
They will front a concert at Atlanta's Centennial Olympic Park on 27 September (14). Additional artists will be announced in the coming weeks.
Announcing the news on Friday (13Jun14), Big Boi says, "It's only right that we give the hometown what we've been giving the rest of the world, Atliens in ATL, homecoming! Festival Killers!"
And Andre 3000 adds, "Coming from Atlanta gave us the freedom to be whatever we ever wanted to be because no one was paying attention. Now that everyone is, we want to say thank you."
Sir Paul McCartney has been forced to postpone his first set of tour dates in the U.S. as he continues to recover from a virus which left him hospitalised last month (May14). The Beatles legend had to scrap his entire Asian tour after he was admitted to a hospital in Tokyo, Japan with a crippling virus, and he has been recuperating at his home in London since he was discharged.
His representative recently assured fans the music icon is "doing fine", but he has now decided to take a little more time to rest and has delayed seven of his Out There tour dates in America between 14 to 26 June (14).
A statement posted on his official website reads: "I'm sorry but it's going to be a few more weeks before we get rocking in America again. I'm feeling great but taking my docs' advice to take it easy for just a few more days. Look forward to seeing you all soon."
Concerts in Texas, Louisiana, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee and Kentucky have been pushed back to October (14).
McCartney is expected to resume his U.S. tour in Albany, New York on 5 July (14).

The Real Housewives of Atlanta star tells In Touch magazine, "We're trying now for a baby! We haven't succeeded yet. If it happens today, then we're good with it.
"We're really looking forward to having kids together. I can't wait to have one big family!"

Director Randall Miller shut down production immediately and it is not yet known if and when filming will resume.
The shoot was expected to last five weeks.
William Hurt and Tyson Ritter signed on to portray Gregg Allman present and past in the project and Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell's son Wyatt was cast as his brother Duane.
Police officials are still investigating the accident that claimed Jones' life.

Production on Fast & Furious 7 is reportedly set to resume in April (14). Filming on the big-budget movie was put on hold in November (13), when franchise star Paul Walker was killed in a fiery car crash in California.
Prior to the tragedy, the cast was scheduled to return to Georgia to finish the film and on 1 April (14) they will head to the state for six to eight weeks to complete the movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
At the time of his death, Walker was more than halfway through filming his scenes as Brian O'Conner and studio bosses at Universal are said to have decided to retire his character so the franchise can continue.

Making the announcement on U.S. breakfast show Good Morning America on Thursday (09Jan14), he said, "It's called the 2014 Burn It Down Tour, partnered with Major League Baseball. We're gonna go play a bunch of stadiums this year... I think it's gonna be total, about 50 shows... It's gonna be a fun year."
