Pop star Ariana Grande helped kick off the 2014 National Football League's season in the U.S. on Thursday night (04Sep14) with an impressive version of America's National Anthem. Her performance came after concerts featuring Pharrell Williams and Soundgarden outside of Seattle, Washington's CenturyLink Field, just before the game between the Seahawks and Green Bay Packers.
Taylor Swift has reportedly signed on to help mentor the finalists of the upcoming season of U.S. talent show The Voice. The Love Story singer will help coaches Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Pharrell Williams and Gwen Stefani with their picks.
Life on the road is beginning to take its toll on 25-year-old Paramore star Hayley Williams and she is coming to terms with the fact she's not a teenager anymore. The Misery Business singer admits she can no longer perform at her best by simply showing up at the venue with a stomach full of fast food.
Williams tells Rolling Stone magazine, "Seven or eight years ago, we would go to Taco Bell, grab a bean burrito and run onstage. Now, getting ready for a show takes two hours - (bandmates) Jeremy (Davis) and Taylor (York) have to wrap their ankles, and I have to do stretches so I don't hurt my neck from headbanging. I'm loving it, but I definitely might collapse at one of these shows."
The singer forced the band to scrap two gigs in Texas last week (beg04Aug14) after falling ill with exhaustion-related symptoms and a chest infection.
She resumed dates on the Momentour, a double-header with Fall Out Boy, on Thursday (07Aug14). After the gig, Williams gave fans an update on her health, tweeting, "Made it thru (through) the show tonight!! Only coughed up some green no big (deal)."
Singer Taylor Swift surprised a young cancer patient at a Boston, Massachusetts hospital recently with a visit and an impromptu performance. Jordan Nickerson, six, was diagnosed with genetic disorder Williams Syndrome when he was a year old and is currently receiving treatment for leukaemia.
Over the weekend (02-03Aug14), Swift dropped by Nickerson's room at Boston Children's Hospital and delighted the youngster by teaming up with him to sing her hit We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.
She also posed for pictures with Nickerson and took part in a game of air hockey.
Pop star Ed Sheeran is celebrating after scoring his first U.K. number one single. The A Team hitmaker has previously enjoyed four top 10 hits from his debut album, +, but new song Sing is the first of his tracks to hit pole position in his native country.
The chart triumph comes days after Sheeran admitted he didn't want to release Sing as the initial offering from his forthcoming album X, revealing he was swayed to do so after receiving advice from his superstar pals Taylor Swift, Elton John and superproducer Pharrell Williams.
The song keeps Sam Smith's Stay With Me at number two, while last week's chart-topper, Secondcity's I Wanna Feel, drops two places to three.
In the U.K. albums chart, Smith lands a second week at the top with The Lonely Hour, ahead of Coldplay's Ghost Stories at two and Clean Bandit's New Eyes, which debuts at three.
There was also good news for Dame Vera Lynn - the beloved entertainer's new war songs release, titled The Ultimate Collection, enters the albums chart at 13, making her the oldest living artist to hit Britain's top 20 at the age of 97. The disc was released this week (ends08Jun14) to mark the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
Lynn became the darling of British troops during World War Two with her songs of hope. She also holds the record as the first and only artist over the age of 90 to reach number one on the U.K. album charts, thanks to her 2009 compilation album, We'll Meet Again: The Very Best of Vera Lynn.

Pop star Ed Sheeran changed his mind about his latest single Sing after his famous friends Sir Elton John, Taylor Swift and Pharrell Williams urged him to release it. The British singer was planning to put out a track called One as the lead song from his upcoming second album X, but every superstar pal he consulted advised him to release Sing instead.
Sheeran was determined to resist, but he eventually gave in and agreed when his mentor Sir Elton, close friend Swift, and producer Williams all gave him the same tip. He tells Britain's Seven magazine, "Elton John came into the office to listen to the album. (I also played him Sing) and Elton said: 'You're mental if you don't put that on the album. That's your first single.' So he originally planted the seed in my head. Then I went out for dinner with Pharrell around a month ago..."
Sheeran reveals Williams agreed with Sir Elton that Sing should be released, but it was Swift's advice that tipped him over the edge. He adds, "She said I was mad if I put out One first. She was like, 'That's just gonna... not bore people, but just satisfy them. But you want people to talk. And if they listen to Sing they can love or hate it, but they are gonna talk about it'... Taylor and Elton are two of the people I would play music to and really listen to their advice. Taylor has not put a foot wrong, ever. So I played her every song I ever wrote for this album."
