Reclusive rock legend David Bowie has been challenged to take part in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge by his former lover Susan Sarandon.
The Thelma & Louise actress gamely poured a bucket of freezing water over her head at the weekend (23-24Aug14) after One Direction star Harry Styles dared her to take part. Prior to completing the feat, Sarandon nominated three others to face the challenge - actress Melissa McCarthy, writer George Saunders, and Bowie, with whom she recently confessed to enjoying a fling during filming of their 1983 movie The Hunger.
In a short film posted on Facebook.com, the actress says, "Harry Styles, I accept your ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in the hopes that we will raise funds for research and awareness of this horrible disease. I'm going to challenge Melissa McCarthy, David Bowie, and George Saunders."
The campaign, which aims to raise awareness of ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease and motor neurone disease, has snowballed in recent weeks, with stars including Tom Cruise, Gwyneth Paltrow, Selena Gomez, Lady Gaga, and Lindsay Lohan all taking part.
Singer Ellie Goulding has taken the charity ice bucket challenge to a whole new level by daring British royal Prince Harry to take part.
The Lights hitmaker has a connection to the heir after singing at his brother Prince William's wedding to Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge in 2011, and she hopes to convince him to join celebrities all over the world who have taken the plunge for the ALS Association.
Goulding reveals her manager turned down the challenge following her nomination, so she has called out Prince Harry to take his place. In a post on Twitter.com, she writes, "So my manager isn't going to do the ice challenge (but donate) so I renominate Prince Harry. Who told me with enough peer pressure..."
The challenge is raising money to battle ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease and motor neurone disease. Harry has a personal connection to the cause as his aunt, Anne, Princess Royal, is a patron of Britain's Motor Neurone Disease Association.
Stars including Gwyneth Paltrow, Lindsay Lohan, Tom Cruise, Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga have all doused themselves in ice water over the last few days to raise money for the charity.
Lindsay Lohan has confirmed reports she's planning to write a memoir, but insists it won't be as racy as some have suggested. The actress, who is preparing to hit the London stage in Speed-The-Plow, tells MailOnline.com that fans hoping she'll reveal all about her sex encounters with celebrities will be disappointed.
She says, "I would never write to violate someone else or objectify them; that's not my intention. I like to write because it's like therapy for me. I want to put (out) a lot of photos and cool stuff; it will probably be like a trilogy, like Harry Potter, because there's so many.
"I've kept journals my whole life, since when I was a kid and stuff and I think I have a lot to say. I worked with a lot of girls in India that have gone through a lot of stuff, and a lot of kids who have gone through family issues or who get subjected to DUI (driving under the influence) or anything like that and then the pressure of just being better.
"I feel like my book will be more about that than anything else because there's the excitement of the life that I have lived but I've seen a lot and if I can help anyone that might feel like it's OK to screw up, it's OK to feel lonely, or ugly or to feel overweight or underweight."
Lohan appears to be picking up the pieces of her life after years of legal woes and substance abuse issues led to jail time and several rehab experiences, both voluntary and court-imposed.
She checked out of rehab a year ago (Aug13) and has kept herself out of the headlines ever since as she attempts to revive her acting career in the West End.
Lindsay Lohan is searching for a ghost writer for her tell-all autobiography - and top of her wish-list is Fifty Shades Of Grey author E.L. James.
The Mean Girls star reportedly impressed publishing bosses when she met with them in London and hinted at the celebrity stories she can recount.
The troubled actress is reportedly now seeking a high-profile ghost writer to help her tell her tales, with James a prime target.
A source tells Britain's The Sun newspaper, "Lindsay held meetings at major publishing houses in London recently - and the stories she promised the literary agents made their jaws drop. She's prepared to put everything out there and has already proved she's not shy with the list of men she claims to have slept with."
"Lindsay is now looking for a ghost writer. It may seem unlikely, but she think she's in with a shot of getting E.L. James to work on it - they met recently at (London celebrity hangout) the Chiltern Firehouse and got on well. Another pie in the sky idea was that she might persuade (Harry Potter author) J.K. Rowling to work with her."
In March (14) a list of celebrity men Lohan claims to have slept with, which the actress made during a stay in a rehabilitation centre, leaked.
The actress first revealed plans to pen her memoirs in 2010.
Stars including Evan Rachel Wood, Lindsay Lohan, Aaron Paul and Zach Braff were left shaken following an earthquake in Los Angeles on Monday morning (17Mar14). The city was hit by a 4.7 magnitude tremor at 6.30am local time and many celebrities took to Twitter.com to share their stories.
Actress Wood was thrown into a panic by the tremor, so she grabbed her baby son from his crib and cowered in a doorway with the infant in her arms until the ground stopped shaking.
She writes in a post on Twitter.com, "My house shook like when the jet engine falls on (film) Donnie Darko. Grabbed my baby and hid under a doorway till it was over... there are no tables in my bedroom."
Rapper Nicki Minaj was also caught up in the chaos, writing, "This earthquake just made me re-evaluate my entire life... I swear it felt like the entire house was picked up n (and) thrown down the block", while singer LeAnn Rimes adds, "Holy hell we just had an earthquake! Shaking," and singer Mika tells fans, "Wow just woken up by pretty strong 2 second tremors in LA. Strongest I've ever felt here."
Glee's Dianna Agron adds, "Not going to lie. That woke me up & that scared the s**t out of me. Can't say I've never felt an earthquake anymore..." and actress Elizabeth Banks quips, "Earthquake! I leapt out bed to check on the kids. They slept right through it, and couldn't have cared less."
Other stars who tweeted about the earthquake include Aaron Paul, who shared footage from a news programme which showed the TV hosts crawling under their desks, as well as Kevin Jonas, Vanessa Hudgens, Kerry Washington, Josh Duhamel, and funnyman Zach Braff, who joked in a message to One Direction star Harry Styles, "Dearest Harry Styles are you in LA? Is your hair ok? Earthquake."
Lohan also managed to make a joke about the incident, adding, "Earthquake... Where's Oprah when you need her."

So the holiday season isn't over, but you've already exhausted your holiday entertainment library. What to do? First, watch Love Actually a second time. (Hugh Grant and the Pointer Sisters, guys.) Then turn to these regular old movies that just happen to host some of the best Christmas scenes in film. Finally, congratulate yourself for being so gosh darn resourceful.
The guys show up to a post-heist Christmas party with new coupes and gals draped in furs. Jimmy is not pleased. "Are you stupid or somethin'? What's the matter with you?" Sounds like the holidays to us.
The Cutting Edge
The deliciously '90s and saxophone-drenched New Year's Eve scene may be flashier, but we prefer this understated gift exchange between the figure skater and the hockey player. Kate, because she's insufferable, gives Doug an unwieldy copy of Great Expectations. Doug, because he's falling in love with her anyway, gives her his lucky jersey.
Featuring Christan Bale in novelty reindeer antlers; a pot-bellied pig named Snowball; and a very PC Reese Witherspoon telling everyone to have a "Merry X-Mas!"
The Plastics perform a sexy dance for their school's holiday show; Amy Poehler still manages to steal the scene.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
Who wouldn't want to pull on a Weasley sweater and spend Christmas at Hogwarts? The Great Hall looks even more magical than usual and a festive John Williams score follows everyone around. Plus, Harry getting his very first presents from his new friends gets us every time.
Not a scene, perhaps, but we can't snub a cameo by Peter Jackson as a demented Father Christmas.
Life of Brian
Brian is just Brian, so this scene may not actually count as a Christmas one. But the Monty Python classic is one of the most hilarious movies of all time, so we actually may not care.
Lady and the Tramp
Emma Thompson has broken her silence on her one-time love rival Helena Bonham Carter, insisting she forgives the actress for embarking on an affair with her ex-husband Kenneth Branagh. The actor/director enjoyed a fling with Bonham Carter during their time filming 1994's Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and the romance led to the end of Branagh's six-year union to Thompson in 1995.
The Love Actually actress has remained quiet on the matter for almost two decades, but she now admits there is no bad feeling between her and Bonham Carter.
Speaking to Britain's The Sunday Times Style magazine, she says, "That is... blood under the bridge. You can't hold on to anything like that, I just think... pfft. It's pointless. I haven't got the energy for it. Helena and I made our peace years and years ago."
And Thompson jokes that her similarities to the younger star may have sparked Branagh's interest in Bonham Carter: "Oh, we are (similar). Being slightly mad and a bit fashion-challenged. Perhaps that's why Ken loved us both? She's a wonderful woman, Helena."
The trio have since appeared together in the Harry Potter film franchise.
Thompson is now married to Greg Wise, while Bonham Carter has two children with director Tim Burton. Branagh, who dated Bonham Carter for several years after his divorce, is now wed to art director Lindsay Brunnock.
Actress Demi Moore has backed down in her demands for spousal support from estranged husband Ashton Kutcher, so the former couple can finally settle its divorce. The Hollywood stars separated in November, 2011 after six years of marriage and Kutcher made the first move in court by filing to legally end their union last December (12).
The Ghost beauty responded with her own papers in March (13), asking a Los Angeles judge to grant her a share of the actor's fortune, which was boosted last year (12) by the reported $24 million (£16 million) he earned as Charlie Sheen's replacement on hit sitcom Two and a Half Men.
Kutcher did not seek to deny Moore financial aid, but the pair has reportedly been battling over money he banked from his various technology investments during their relationship.
However, almost a year after the divorce filing, TMZ.com reports that Bruce Willis' ex-wife has agreed not to fight for a share of Kutcher's millions and instead settle for the division of property they acquired during their time together.
The former couple is expected to lodge details of their settlement in court next week (begs03Nov13), according to the New York Post.
The divorce agreement will leave Kutcher free to focus on his latest project - on Wednesday (30Oct13), he was announced as a product engineer for Lenovo, the world's biggest PC manufacturer. He will help bosses at the China-based firm launch the company's Yoga lines of tablet devices.
Since splitting from Moore, Kutcher has been romancing his former That '70s Show co-star Mila Kunis, while 50-year-old Moore has been linked to director Julian Schnabel's art collector son Vito, and Lindsay Lohan's ex, restaurateur Harry Morton.
Talent often runs in the family -- just ask the Jacksons (maybe not LaToya) -- and so it comes as no surprise that many celebrities also have siblings who share their aspirations in entertainment. While some successfully strike out on their own like Solange Knowles, others stay perpetually in the shadows of their sibling's success. So what new faces have recently emerged from some famous family trees?
The little sis of the The Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco recently made headlines after she won her audition for The Voice. The aspiring singer was currently working as Cuoco's personal assistant, but given the tears Kaley shed during the audition, the two are clearly close. Briana has also made bit appearances on The Mentalist and The Big Bang Theory thanks to her family connection, but we'll have to wait and see if she can survive on The Voice on her own musical merit.
In the ultimate case of Single White Female, Lindsay Lohan's half-sister has recently clawed her way into the media spotlight after it was revealed she underwent plastic surgery five times to resemble her sister. The formerly fresh-faced 18 year-old now resembles more a sad Cabbage Patch kid than her famous sibling. As if this family wasn't dysfunctional enough, Horn only recently learned of her status as the love child of Michael Lohan after he took a paternity test on a daytime talk show in 2012. Something tells us Lohan didn't do a victory dance
Sharing the same surname and bewitching beauty as her famous sister, Sofia Vergara, this up and coming actress has already cemented her sex-symbol status by appearing on the cover of Maxim. While technically not Sofia's biological sister, Sandra is her first cousin and was adopted by Sofia's parents when she was a month old. While she won't be appearing on Pepsi billboards anytime soon, Sandra has landed small rolls on CSI: Miami, the film Fright Night and a recurring role in The Bold and the Beautiful.
It's often the younger sibling who wants to follow in their famous brother or sister's footsteps, but for Gemma Styles (older sister of One Direction's Harry Styles) — she was a late bloomer. Gemma shares her brother's passion for music and allegedly already has a demo in the bag with an album soon to follow. Her brother is very supportive and the two share a close relationship (he does have her name tattooed on his arm). Plus it doesn't hurt to have a built-in, rabid fan base at your disposal.
True sibling rivalry is when you share a Burberry modeling campaign, play a friendly game of polo in the English countryside and calorie-count your biscuits together. Well, the first part is true for Alex Watson, the smoldering hot and professional model brother of Emma Watson. He pals around with Malfoy, walks the red carpet and looks sexy with his hair pushed back — he's already well on his way to continuing the family tradition.

Michael Buckner/Getty ImagesWhile most people scoffed when The Canyons director Paul Schrader compared its troubled star Lindsay Lohan to silver screen goddess Marilyn Monroe, they do have at least one thing in common – they've both been immortalised in song by Sir Elton John. Indeed, exactly 30 years after he penned "Candle In The Wind" as a tribute to the original Blonde Bombshell, the Rocket Man revealed this week that the closing title track from his new 31st studio album, The Diving Board, was based on watching the Mean Girls star's descent from talented actress to car-crash TMZ regular. Here's a look at five other songs that have been inspired by celebrities.
Alanis Morissette – "You Oughta Know"A tour-de-force of angst-ridden alt-rock, "You Oughta Know" transformed the Canadian from a Tiffany-esque teen pop mall queen to the world's biggest banshee. But few would have expected the subject of her fury to have been such an unassuming figure as Uncle Joey from Full House. Despite his initial denials, Dave Coulier finally admitted in 2008 that he was in fact the man who stamped on Morissette's heart after they dated in the early '90s.
Madonna – "Miles Away"Best-known for possibly the most tacky album cover of all time and a bandwagon jumping collaboration with Timbaland & Timberlake, Madonna's much-maligned 2008 release, Hard Candy, wasn’t always so contrived. Indeed, this gorgeously melancholic electro-ballad was possibly one of the most honest and autobiographical songs of the Material Girl's career as she poured her heart out over the hardships of maintaining a long-distance relationship with now ex-husband Guy Ritchie.
Carly Simon – "You’re So Vain"Long before Taylor Swift turned the concept of 'blind gossip' into an art form, singer-songwriter Carly Simon got all the tabloids talking when she assassinated a former boyfriend's character on "You’re So Vain." Mick Jagger, Warren Beatty and James Taylor's names have all been thrown into the ring as possible suspects. But only Simon and the man who paid $50,000 to discover the answer back in 2003 appears to really know who the guilty party is.
R.E.M. - "Man On The Moon"Seven years before they wrote "The Great Beyond" for the Jim Carrey-starring biopic of the same name, R.E.M. paid tribute to the late cult comedian Andy Kaufmann with this enduring hit from Automatic For The People. Referencing everything from the Taxi star's flawless Elvis impersonation to his work with wrestlers Fred Blassie and Jerry Lawler, the track was named so due to the moon-landing style conspiracy theories surrounding his 1984 death.
Annie – "Me Plus One"Taken from her 2004 debut, Anniemal, "Me Plus One" saw Norwegian starlet Annie narrate the real-life moment when Geri Halliwell locked herself in a car with producer Richard X after discovering that he'd given the song she desperately wanted to record to former S Club 7 member Rachel Stevens instead. Also sampling the barks of the former Spice Girl's dog Harry, this insanely catchy slice of electropop undoubtedly ranks as one of the more bizarre celebrity odes.
