Kid Rock is set to be feted for his support of the U.S. military both in America and abroad. The All Summer Long hitmaker, who has been a long-time supporter of the military and has performed at various bases over the years, will be the recipient of the 2014 Patriot Award from officials at the non-profit Operation Troop Aid (OTA) organisation.
Mark Woods, founder and executive director of OTA, praises Kid Rock's efforts in a statement which reads: "Kid Rock is one of the most giving entertainers I have ever met. He really gets it.
"His art, legacy of family and spirit of patriotism is exactly why this award exists."
His generosity is exemplified in the challenge Kid Rock recently put out to his fans, in which he's raising funds for OTA to provide care packages for military troops overseas.
The singer took on the same fundraiser last year (13), in which he helped garner enough money to ship over 500 boxes to members of the military.
Kid Rock follows in the footsteps of Hank Williams, Jr., who was bestowed the Patriot Award last year (13), as well as previous recipients such as Toby Keith, KISS, Gary Sinise and Charlie Daniels.
Lady Antebellum dedicated a performance of Luke Bryan's Drink A Beer to the singer on Tuesday (02Dec14) after a death in the family forced him to bow out of an appearance at the Country Music Television Artists of the Year concert. Bryan's brother-in-law, Ben Lee Cheshire, passed away in Georgia on Saturday (29Nov14) at the age of 46, seven years after his wife Kelly - the star's only sister - died unexpectedly, aged 39.
He scrapped all of his live commitments for this week (begs01Dec14) to spend time with his relatives, but he was firmly in his peers' thoughts as they celebrated his career as one of the honourees at the CMT Artists of the Year show.
Lady Antebellum and singer/songwriter Chris Stapleton treated the audience at the Nashville, Tennessee bash to an acoustic cover of Drink A Beer, which honours Bryan's late brother and sister, after band member Charles Kelley dedicated the tune to their absent pal.
He said, "Tonight, if you're watching back home, Luke, this one's for you and your family."
The touching moment was not lost on Bryan, who subsequently tweeted, "That was amazing. Truly. Thank you Charles, Dave, Hillary and Chris! Beautiful!!! Thank you fans for your love."
Other performance highlights at the CMT prizegiving came from another honouree Jason Aldean, who teamed up with rocker Chris Cornell to open the show, while Eric Church, Ashley Monroe and T Bone Burnett joined forces for a rendition of Artist of a Lifetime recipient Merle Haggard's hit Workin' Man Blues.
Actor Billy Bob Thornton was also on hand to pay tribute to Haggard, comparing him to writers like John Steinbeck and Tennessee Williams, saying, "He's truly a storyteller. And that's something that has been lost."
Miranda Lambert and Keith Urban were also among the musicians saluted at the CMT gathering.
Hip-hop mogul Suge Knight has been taken into custody for allegedly stealing a camera from a photographer.
Knight was in court in Beverly Hills on Wednesday (05Nov14) with his lawyer, James Blatt, to formally surrender to the authorities. He pleaded not guilty and Judge Keith Schwartz set bail at $500,000 (GBP330,000).
The Death Row Records founder was hospitalised last week (29Oct14) after taking a tumble while behind bars in Las Vegas, where he was arrested amid allegations he and his comedian pal Katt Williams "forcibly" grabbed a camera belonging to a female paparazzo during an encounter in Beverly Hills in September (14).
Knight was charged with one felony count of robbery and held behind bars so he could appear in court on Thursday (30Oct14) to face a separate traffic citation dating back to June, 2013.
He returned to the Clark County Detention Center after settling the case, but passed out in his cell and hit his head.
He had to be admitted to University Medical Center, where he received treatment for dizziness and chest pain.
Knight faces 30 years to life behind bars if found guilty of robbery due to a prior assault conviction.
Williams, who was also arrested last week and slapped with the same charge, faces seven years behind bars if convicted. The comedian was scheduled to appear alongside Knight but did not.
He and Knight were ordered to return to court on 24 December (14).
Robert De Niro dedicated his Friars Club honour to late pal Robin Williams on Tuesday night (07Oct14), revealing it was difficult for him to enjoy a career-spanning gala without the funnyman. De Niro received only the fifth Entertainment Icon Award the Friars Club has bestowed in its 110 year existence in New York and admitted he missed Williams, who committed suicide at his home in California in August (14).
Following performances from music legends Sting, Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder, and video tributes from Ricky Gervais, Meryl Streep, Billy Crystal, Keith Richards and Barbra Streisand, among others, De Niro took to the stage still moved by a clip of his film Awakenings, in which he starred with Williams.
The movie great said, "No one made me laugh like Robin. Of course, it was more than the jokes, he had so much humanity, just look at his face in that scene. He was a wonderful actor, sure, but those feelings were real. No one could fake that kind of love and compassion."
De Niro then dedicated the award to his "dear friend".
Actress Tasha Smith is "desperately" trying to have a baby with her husband of four years. The Why Did I Get Married? star wed Keith Douglas in December, 2010, and the couple has attempting to conceive ever since.
She says, "We are still trying to have a baby; we're, like, having sex all the time. As a matter of fact, we just got done... up in your green room; I mean why not? I'm ovulating... It's driving me crazy."
Smith is also considering surrogacy if she cannot conceive naturally.
She continues, "I would rather do surrogate (sic) before adopting. If I can't do it, I'd rather find someone that will do it for me."
The results of Robin Williams' autopsy have been delayed by a month as officials in California await the completion of "scientific testing and analysis". Marin County officials had hoped to reveal the findings by 30 September (14), but they've issued a statement suggesting the "materials" won't be complete until the beginning of November (14).
The Good Morning Vietnam star, 63, died of an apparent suicide on 11 August (14) at his home in Marin County. His death was caused by asphyxia, according to Marin County assistant chief deputy coroner Keith Boyd.
The deputy chief coroner who presided over Robin Williams' autopsy has defended his decision to go public with details about the star's death following a backlash from critics.
The 63-year-old Oscar winner was found dead after he hanged himself in his home in Marin County, California on Monday (11Aug14).
Sheriff's Office Deputy Chief Coroner Keith Boyd gave a press conference on Tuesday (12Aug14) to give details about the circumstances surrounding the actor's death, revealing Williams' personal assistant discovered the body. Boyd also confirmed the Mrs. Doubtfire star had hanged himself with a belt, and that a number of cuts had been found on his left wrist.
Following the press conference, which was shown on TV and streamed online, many fans criticised Boyd for releasing such specific details about the tragedy. However, Boyd has now defended his decision in a statement which reads: "The Sheriff's Office understands how the release of the kind of information you heard... may be viewed as disturbing by some, and as unnecessary by others, but under California law, all that information is considered 'public information' and we are precluded from denying access to it.
These kinds of cases, whether they garner national attention or not, are very difficult for everyone involved. "Frankly, it would have been our personal preference to withhold a lot of what we disclosed to the press... but the California Public Records Act does not give us that kind of latitude. For the same reasons, we will likely be required to release to the media the 911 phone call we received from Mr. Williams' residence and the fire dispatch tapes that resulted as well..."
A private memorial is currently being planned for Williams by his wife Susan Schneider, according to E! News.

Early autopsy results have concluded tragic actor Robin Williams died from "asphyxia due to hanging".
The Oscar-winning Good Will Hunting star's body was discovered in a room at his home in Tiburon, California on Monday morning (11Aug14). His publicist Mara Buxbaum confirmed the comedian, who had spent years dealing with drug and alcohol issues, had been battling "severe depression of late" and had been receiving treatment weeks after checking into the Hazelden Addiction Treatment Center in Minnesota to focus on maintaining his sobriety.
A forensic examination was performed on Williams' remains on Tuesday morning (12Aug14) and at a press conference held shortly afterwards, Lieutenant Keith Boyd, Assistant Chief Deputy Coroner for Marin County, revealed the 63-year-old had hanged himself with a belt.
He explained, "Mr. Williams' personal assistant became concerned at approximately 11.45am (on Monday) when he failed to respond to knocks on his bedroom door. "At that time, the personal assistant was able to gain access to Mr. Williams' bedroom, and entered the bedroom to find Mr. Williams clothed, in a seated position, unresponsive, with a belt secured around his neck with the other end of the belt wedged between the clothes closet door and the door frame..."
Police investigating his death noted "several acute, superficial, transverse cuts" on his left wrist, while a pocket knife "with a closed blade" was also found nearby.
The case is being treated as a suicide. Toxicology results are pending and are expected to be revealed within two to six weeks. Lieutenant Boyd declined to discuss whether a suicide note was found at the scene.
The Fourth Annual Critics' Choice Television Awards were held Thursday night, with AMC's Breaking Bad, Netflix's Orange Is the New Black, and FX's Fargo coming away with the big wins. The awards, which are chosen by TV critics, have a knack for recognizing the programs and performances that are often overlooked by the other big television award shows. But do the slightly out-there nominees have a chance for gold when it comes to the Primetime Emmys? We've decided to predict the nominees and winners of this year's Emmys based on the winners of last nights Critics Choice Awards. The two award shows might have more winners in common than you would expect.
BEST DRAMA SERIES
Critics' Choice AwardsThe Americans Breaking BadGame of Thrones The Good Wife Masters of Sex True Detective
Emmy PredictionsBreaking BadGame of ThronesThe Good WifeHouse of CardsMad MenTrue Detective
Last year's Emmy winner, Breaking Bad, is coming off a fantastic final season, so it's hard to reason how Vince Gilligan's masterwork won't win the night's big award yet again. But on the slim chance that Bad doesn't win (and we mean slim), True Detective is the most sensible alternative. We don't expect low profile dramas like Masters of Sex and The Americans to be recognized by the Emmys, and the hype on Downton Abbey has cooled of considerably this year. Another Emmy favorite, Homeland, had its worst season yet last year, freeing the category up for some new blood.
BEST COMEDY SERIES
Critics' Choice AwardsThe Big Bang Theory Broad City Louie Orange Is the New Black Silicon Valley Veep
Emmy PredictionsThe Big Bang TheoryLouieModern FamilyOrange Is the New BlackParks and RecreationVeep
Freshman dramedy Orange Is the New Black will certainly get nominated at the Emmys, but we're doubtful that Netflix's prison series will win the top prize like it did at the Critics' Choice Awards, certainly not in a race that includes Modern Family. The juggernaut of a sitcom has won the category four times in a row, and there's nothing with enough buzz to stop it's warpath. Elsewhere, Critics' Choice nominees like Silicon Valley and Broad City are way off the Emmys radar, and don't stand a chance of getting nominated.
BEST ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES
Critics' Choice AwardsBryan Cranston, Breaking Bad Hugh Dancy, Hannibal Freddie Highmore, Bates Motel Matthew McConaughey, True Detective Matthew Rhys, The Americans Michael Sheen, Masters of Sex
Emmy PredictionsBryan Cranston, Breaking BadJeff Daniels, The NewsroomJohn Hamm, Mad MenDamien Lewis, HomelandMatthew McConaughey, True DetectiveKevin Spacey, House of Cards
McConaughey came out on top at the Critic's Choice Awards, but despite his massive performance in True Detective, we're doubtful he will best Cranston at the Emmys. We're expecting the rest of the category's Emmy nominees to be rounded out with the usual suspects. While the critics recognized the great performances in Hannibal, The Americans, and Bates Motel, we're doubtful that any of those shows will make it to the Emmys this year, or any year for that matter.
BEST ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES
Critics' Choice Awards Lizzy Caplan, Masters of Sex Vera Farmiga, Bates Motel Julianna Margulies, The Good Wife Tatiana Maslany, Orphan Black Keri Russell, The Americans Robin Wright, House of Cards
Emmy PredictionsClaire Danes, HomelandJulianna Margules, The Good WifeElisabeth Moss, Mad MenTatiana Maslany, Orphan BlackKerry Washington, ScandalRobin Wright, House of Cards
When the dust settles, we're expecting Tatiana Maslany to also win the Emmy in this category. At this point, her hype is insurmountable, and riots might break out if she doesn't leave the Nokia theater with something golden.
BEST ACTOR IN A COMEDY SERIES
Critics' Choice AwardsLouis C.K., Louie Chris Messina, The Mindy Project Thomas Middleditch, Silicon Valley Jim Parsons, The Big Bang Theory Adam Scott, Parks and Recreation Robin Williams, The Crazy Ones
Emmy PredictionsDon Cheadle, House of LiesLouis C.K., LouieMatt LeBlanc, EpisodesJim Parsons, The Big Band TheoryAndy Samberg, Brooklyn Nine-NineRobin Williams, The Crazy Ones
The Big Bang Theory's Jim Parsons will likely walk home with both awards. In terms of the other nominations, there's no way Chris Messina or Thomas Middleditch have a chance at securing an Emmy nomination. We're also betting that Robin Williams gets nominated, due mostly due organization's usual affection for "veterans" ... or so the Emmys have an excuse to invite the actor to the show and hear his Genie voice.
BEST ACTRESS IN A COMEDY SERIES
Critics' Choice AwardsIlana Glazer, Broad City Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Veep Wendi McLendon-Covey, The Goldbergs Amy Poehler, Parks and Recreation Amy Schumer, Inside Amy Schumer Emmy Rossum, Shameless
Emmy PredictionsZooey Deschanel, New GirlLena Dunham, GirlsEdie Falco, Nurse JackieJulia Louis-Dreyfus, VeepMelissa McCarthy, Mike & MollyAmy Poehler, Parks and RecreatonLouis-Dreyfus' foul-mouthed vice-prez will likely win the Emmy along with the Critics' Choice Award this year. As for the other nomination slots, Glazer and Schumer have no chance at getting nominated for Emmys. We're expecting the rest of the nomination list to be filled up with Emmys regulars like Melissa McCarthy and Edie Falco.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES
Critics' Choice AwardsJosh Charles, The Good Wife Walton Goggins, Justified Aaron Paul, Breaking Bad Peter Sarsgaard, The Killing Jon Voight, Ray Donovan Jeffrey Wright, Boardwalk Empire
Emmy PredictionsPeter Dinklage, Game of ThronesWalton Goggins, JustifiedAaron Paul, Breaking BadDean Norris, Breaking BadMandy Patinkin, HomelandJeffery Wright, Boardwalk Empire
Aaron Paul seems like a lock for the Emmys this year. The only person we could see upsetting what is basically destiny at this point is Peter Dinklage, who had a massive year on Game of Thrones. As for the other nominees, we are actually expecting the two award shows to stack up pretty similarly. Mandy Patinkin will definitely get an Emmy nod, while there might be enough space in the mix for long-snubbed Walton Goggins. One can dream, right?
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES
Critics' Choice AwardsChristine Baranski, The Good Wife Anna Gunn, Breaking Bad Annet Mahendru, The Americans Melissa McBride, The Walking Dead Maggie Siff, Sons of Anarchy Bellamy Young, Scandal
Emmy PredictionsChristine Baranski, The Good WifeEmilia Clarke, Game of ThronesAnna Gunn, Breaking BadChristina Hendricks, Mad MenMichelle Monaghan, True DetectiveMaggie Smith, Downton Abbey
While Anna Gunn didn't secure a Critics' Choice Award for the last season of Breaking Bad, we're betting she goes home with an Emmy this September. As for the other nominees, we don't expect Maggie Siff, Melissa McBride, and Annet Mahendru to get an Emmy nod, even though each actress certainly deserves the recognition.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A COMEDY SERIES
Critics' Choice AwardsAndre Braugher, Brooklyn Nine-Nine Keith David, Enlisted Tony Hale, Veep Albert Tsai, Trophy Wife Christopher Evan Welch, Silicon Valley Jeremy Allen White, Shameless
Emmy PredictionsAndre Braugher, Brooklyn Nine-NineJesse Tyler Ferguson, Modern FamilyEric Stonestreet, Modern FamilyTy Burrell, Modern FamilyTony Hale, VeepNick Offerman, Parks and RecreationAt this point, the supporting actor in a comedy category should be renamed the "Which Modern Family actor hasn't won in a while?" and that honor goes to Ferguson. Even though the Critics' Choice Awards don't feature a single nominee from ABC's dominant sitcom, expect at least three nominees from the show on Emmy night. Four if Ed O'Neil sneaks his way onto the bill. Also, kudos to the Critics Choice awards for nominating Albert Tsai for Trophy Wife. Bert will live in our hearts forever.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A COMEDY SERIES
Critics' Choice AwardsMayim Bialik, The Big Bang Theory Laverne Cox, Orange Is the New Black Kaley Cuoco, The Big Bang Theory Allison Janney, Mom Kate Mulgrew, Orange Is the New Black Merritt Wever, Nurse Jackie
Emmy PredictionsMayim Bialik, The Big Bang TheoryJulie Bowen, Modern FamilyAllison Janney, MomKate Mulgrew, Orange Is the New BlackSofia Vergara, Modern FamilyMerrit Weaver, Nurse Jackie
It might be crazy talk, but we think this category is Orange Is the New Black's best chance for its first Emmy. The show has such a dynamite supporting cast and heavy following that it may be able to crack the winner's circle in its first year of eligibility. We're thinking Kate Mulgrew has a good chance since Modern Family isn't nearly as dominant in this category as it is in Best Supporting Actor.
Justin Timberlake, Imagine Dragons Robin Thicke and Jennifer Lopez were among the big winners at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday (18May14), each taking home top honours. Imagine Dragons and Robin Thicke were also multiple winners on the night, while Lorde had double the reason to celebrate as she was named Top New Artist and her hit Royals earned her the Top Rock Song prize. It was also a big night for Jennifer Lopez, who opened the Las Vegas ceremony by joining Pitbull and Claudia Leitte to perform their official 2014 FIFA World Cup soccer anthem, We Are One (Ole Ola).
She returned to the stage almost three hours later to close the show with her new song First Love as she was feted with the Icon Award by pal Ricky Martin and rapper Iggy Azalea, while video tributes from the likes of Taylor Swift, Keith Urban, Cameron Diaz, Britney Spears, Rihanna and Mary J. You never know where you might end up. Thank you, I love you."
Other show highlights included Ricky Martin's energetic Vida and Lorde's first TV rendition of her new single Tennis Court. There was also a pre-taped Birthday surprise from Katy Perry, who recorded a segment from her recent gig in Newcastle, England, where she plucked a real birthday girl from the audience and serenaded her onstage, for the awards show, while footage from Miley Cyrus' concert in Manchester, England last week (14May14), when she sang a cover of the Beatles' Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds with the Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne and Steven Drozd, also aired.
