Actress Blake Lively is set to be the new face of beauty brand L'Oreal Paris. Ryan Reynolds' wife has inked a deal to appear in a series of ads starting next year (14), according to Eonline.com.
She will join fellow celebrity spokesmodels including Jennifer Lopez, Gwen Stefani and Beyonce.
We're aware the idea of "selling out" and the backlash it used to incur against artists doesn't hold the same weight as it did in the nineties, but if we wanted to watch blatant product placement in our entertainment we'd just stick to watching Bravo TV. Musicians have been shilling products since before Wayne and Garth held up a Pepsi can, but the product placement in music videos has gone from subtle to center stage. When music videos made the shift from TV to online (remember The BOX anyone?) record labels starting pumping out music videos as a source of revenue and not just an extension of the musician's "artistic vision." Pretty soon it's going to be Geico lizards singing backup while Gucci Mane raps with a Dairy Queen Blizzard tattooed on his face
Britney Spears – "Work B ** h"
While everyone was clamoring for Brit's latest comeback single, not much has changed since her Femme Fatale album of 2011. Tanned abs? Check. Flashy Underwear? Yep. Over-the-top product placement of her latest perfume? Absolutely! Just like her video for "Hold It Against Me," where she reportedly made half a million to hold product props, her latest single, "Work B ** h," is no different — except this time she's pushing her Fantasy Twist perfume instead of Radiance. Subtle product placement is one thing, but in this video we are literally gagged with it — as one of scenes features a dancer using a Beats by Dre speaker as an S&M ball-gag. In addition to plugs for the casino Planet Hollywood where she has a two-year residency performing, Britney proves if you want to make the big bucks with corporate sponsors… you better work, b ** h.
Avril Lavigne – "Rock N Roll"
Avril Lavigne is a lot of things — but a rock star is not one of them. In her video for song "Rock Star," the product placement makes an appearance before the music even begins. Her gentle guitar strumming is interrupted by "her new Sony phone is ringing," making us cringe before she starts warbling about ripped jeans and "hipster bulls**t." She's obviously very cozy with Sony since their shiny electronics also make a star appearance in he video for "What the Hell." That's exactly what we were thinking.
No Doubt – "Settle Down"
Here's another case of an artist plugging the brand they're a spokesperson for. As Gwen is on her way driving to the uber cool party in a shipping container, she carefully applies her L'oreal lipgloss to achieve her signature red lip and makes us all ill in the process. Maybe their next video can be her sitting by her vanity applying L'Oreal RevitaLift after their live gig? Does Tony approve of this?
Ke$ha — "We R Who We R"
Given her penchant for whiskey, we would have expected to see a Jack Daniels plug in Ke$sha's videos, but it turns out the party girl prefers Revolucion Tequila, which makes plenty of appearances in her single "We R Who We R." Not that we set the bar for artistic integrity for Ke$ha very high. The song's mantra could apply to her entire career, she's unapologetic about her image and "dancin' like we're dumb," lyrics; so good for her. Tequila and flashy watches naturally fit in the dance party concept of the video, but what's with the constant reference to the dating website 'Plenty of Fish' on the DJ's laptop? Turns out, the site had a partnership with Interscope Records. Now we'll forever wonder, is that guy is REALLY DJing at the bar or his he just cruising for dates?
Pharrell Williams and Helen Lasichanh are set to host their official wedding party later this month (Oct13), according to a U.S. report. The couple reportedly married in a secret ceremony in France in August (13), but the hitmaker and his partner have waited to celebrate their nuptials with a celebrity-filled bash on 12 October (13).
Details about the wedding are scarce, but Jay Z and Justin Timberlake are expected to perform and the guest list reportedly includes Clipse rappers Pusha T and Malice, Robin Thicke and wife Paula Patton and Gwen Stefani, according to Bossip.com.
Williams proposed in 2012 and the couple has a four-year-old son together.
Rapper Eve has confirmed Gwen Stefani is pregnant with her third child. Earlier this month (Sep13), the Don't Speak hitmaker and her rocker husband Gavin Rossdale hit headlines when it was reported they were expecting their third child. The couple is already parents to two sons - Kingston and Zuma.
The hitmaker broke the news after she was asked in a previously taped interview for Live Nation if Stefani would be joining her onstage at her then-upcoming 12 September (13) performance at the Gramercy Theatre in New York City.
She said, "She's preggers (pregnant). I think she's chilling."
Stefani and Rossdale have yet to confirm the news.
Rocker Gwen Stefani is pregnant with her third child, according to a U.S. report. The No Doubt frontwoman and her Bush singer husband Gavin Rossdale already have sons Kingston, seven, and five year old Zuma, and now Stefani is reportedly preparing to add to their brood at the age of 43.
Editors at In Touch magazine quote a source as saying, "She and Gavin couldn't be happier."
No Doubt star Tony Kanal is set to become a father for the second time. The bassist and his actress wife Erin are expecting a sibling for their two-year-old daughter Coco.
Kanal announced the news on Monday (22Jul13) in a post on his Twitter.com page, which reads: "Erin, Coco and I are ecstatic to announce that our family is growing!"
He also shared a cute photo of Coco looking up to her mother's bulging belly.
Kanal, who previously dated bandmate Gwen Stefani, wed Erin in 2010.
The musician's child will be the latest addition to a growing No Doubt family - Stefani has two sons with rocker husband Gavin Rossdale, drummer Adrian Young and wife Nina have a boy and a girl and Tom Dumont has three kids - Koa Thomas, Rio Atticus, and Ace Joseph.
Actress Shailene Woodley has been cut from the upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man sequel after producers decided to delay the introduction of her character, Mary Jane Watson, until later in the film franchise. The Descendants star shot scenes with Andrew Garfield earlier this year (13), but she will no longer feature in the 2014 release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Instead, Woodley's character will make her debut in a planned third installment of director Marc Webb's movie series.
She tells Entertainment Weekly, "Of course I'm bummed. But I am a firm believer in everything happening for a specific reason. MJ (Mary Jane) only appeared in a few scenes and I wouldn't trade the experience of working with Andrew and Emma (Stone as Gwen Stacy) for three days on set for the world. Based on the proposed plot, I completely understand the need for holding off on introducing MJ until the next film."
The news emerges a day after Sony Pictures executives announced that Garfield had signed on for two more outings as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, which will hit cinemas in 2016 and 2018.
Sony is casting its web for two more installments of The Amazing Spider-Man franchise. The company announced today that in addition to Columbia's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 climbing into theaters on May 2, 2014, the beloved red-and-blue-leotard-sporting hero will also return for two more films set to release on June 10, 2016 and May 4, 2018, respectively.
The first installment of Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man series starred Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Emma Stone as his occasional love interest Gwen Stacy. Well, apparently Sony can't get enough of the lovebirds, and the company is super stoked to announce its long-term plans about the film franchise.
According to Deadline, Jeff Blake, Chairman of Worldwide Marketing and Distribution for Sony Pictures, announced: "Spider-Man is our most important, most successful, and most beloved franchise, so we're thrilled we are in a positive to lock in these prime release dates over the next five years."
Although, some critics were not huge lovers of Andrew Garfield's portrayal of Spider-Man, The Amazing Spider-Man cashed in over $750 million at the worldwide box office last year, so it makes complete sense for Sony to want to roll in more dough.

Fleetwood Mac star Mick Fleetwood has appealed to The Rolling Stones to give him a guest slot on their 50 & Counting tour. The veteran musicians are currently taking North America by storm with their comeback shows, and they have been treating fans to regular guest appearances from stars including Dave Grohl, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Katy Perry, John Fogerty and Gwen Stefani.
Fleetwood has now stepped forward and appealed to the band to give him a shot, telling Australia's Herald Sun, "I would cut off my right arm to play with the Rolling Stones.''
The rocker's chances to play with the Stones are running out as they have just a handful of shows left in America to play before they head home to the U.K. for a headline set at Glastonbury festival and concerts in London's Hyde Park.
Carrie Underwood injected a little country into The Rolling Stones' show in Toronto, Canada on Saturday night (25May13) by joining them onstage. The Before He Cheats hitmaker teamed up with the British legends to perform It's Only Rock 'N' Roll (But I Like It) and the singer reveals her appearance at the concert came on a special day.
In a post on her Twitter.com page, she writes, "8 years ago today, I won American Idol and tonight, I sang with the Rolling Stones! Wow, so much has happened!"
Underwood joins a lengthy list of stars who have joined the rockers on their 50 & Counting anniversary tour - Katy Perry, Dave Grohl, Gwen Stefani, Keith Urban and Tom Waits have all appeared at previous concerts.
