British singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran delighted fans in Tennessee on Wednesday night (04Sep13) when he joined his pal Passenger onstage for an impromptu duet. The A Team hitmaker flew in to Nashville from Los Angeles on Tuesday (03Sep13) just to catch the folk star in concert at the Mercy Lounge, and he decided to get involved in the intimate gig, entertaining attendees by teaming up for their collaboration Hearts on Fire, before performing a cover of Blackstreet's classic R&B track No Diggity, including an excerpt of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' Thrift Shop.
Sheeran tells RollingStone.com, "Mike's not only one of my best friends, he's just one of the best singer-songwriters I know.
"One thing that I really love about me and Mike is whenever we meet up, we always sit somewhere and play each other tunes. It's kind of like poker - you have to show your best hands."
He jokes, "We're gonna start a group called the Chixie Dicks. It's gonna be the new Simon and Garfunkel."
Vampire Weekend and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis were the big winners at the Association of Independent Music Awards in London on Tuesday (03Sep13). Vampire Weekend scooped Independent Track Of The Year for their song Diane Young, while rapper Macklemore and his producer sidekick took home trophies for Independent Breakthrough Of The Year and the PPL Award For Most-Played Independent New Act.
London folk-rockers Daughter landed the Independent Album Of The Year Award for their debut, If You Leave, and Enter Shikari were named Best Live Act.
Another big winner was singer/songwriter Billy Bragg, who collected the Outstanding Contribution to Music prize.
Beyonce helped her husband Jay Z kick off his second annual music festival in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in superstar style on Saturday night (31Aug13) by closing the show as the headlining act. The rap mogul launched the Budweiser Made In America event last year (12), and his wife graced the stage in front of 50,000 fans to ensure the first day of this year's festival ended on a high note.
The pop beauty opened the show with her huge hits Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) and Crazy in Love, before drawing the gig to a close with her ballad Halo.
Deadmau5, 2 Chainz, Emeli Sande, and HAIM also performed on Saturday, while Nine Inch Nails will serve as the star attraction on Sunday (01Sep13), alongside fellow acts Calvin Harris, Queens of the Stone Age, Kendrick Lamar, Miguel and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.
Justin Timberlake ruled the MTV Video Music Awards in New York on Sunday (25Aug13) by picking up four honours and delivering the night's performance highlight. The pop superstar took home the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, Video of the Year for Mirrors, which also claimed Best Editing honours, and his Suit & Tie promo earned the Best Direction prize.
He also wowed with a show-stopping performance featuring a medley of his solo hits and a brief 'N SYNC reunion.
Rap duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis were also big winners - they scored Best Hip Hop Video and Best Cinematography trophies for their Can't Hold Us promo and also landed the night's Best Video with a Social Message award for their gay anthem Same Love, which they performed with Mary Lambert and special guest Jennifer Hudson.
Lady Gaga kicked off the ceremony at the Barclays Center in typical bizarre fashion, dressed as a futuristic Mother Superior. The Paparazzi singer began her performance of new single Applause wearing a weird white nun's habit but the get-up was quickly ripped off her by dancers to reveal a glittery black leotard with matching skull cap.
That outfit became a shimmering blue two-piece, topped by a peroxide white wig. The pop superstar also donned a canary yellow wig and face paint during the opening performance, and wrapped it up following a quick change, dashing out in a two-piece bikini and long blonde shaggy hairpiece.
Other performance highlights included Miley Cyrus, who performed We Can't Stop surrounded by dancing teddy bears, while wearing a fluffy grey bodice. She also sported a new hairstyle - tight cat-ear-like bunches on top and a short ponytail.
The former child star then proved she's all grown up by ripping off her top to reveal orange rubber bra and panties as she took part in a performance of Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines. The hitmaker strutted out on stage wearing the thick-striped black and white suit.
During the pair's suggestive routine, Cyrus donned a large foam hand to feel Thicke up with and then bent over and wiggled her backside into the singer's crotch while smiling with her tongue hanging out.
After watching Cyrus dancing with Thicke, comedian Kevin Hart joked, "Miley better go and get a damn pregnancy test after doing all that grinding."
Kanye West, Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and Drake also hit the Barclays Center stage, while Katy Perry closed the 2013 ceremony by performing her new song Roar from underneath the Brooklyn Bridge.

Katy Perry will reportedly perform from under the Brooklyn Bridge in New York for the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night (25Aug13). The pop superstar will close the show with her new single Roar, but the performance will not be onstage at the Barclays Center, according to insiders.
Instead Perry has opted to rock out at a secret location, and reports suggest that will be from under the Brooklyn Bridge after she was denied a permit to perform on the bridge.
Meanwhile, Lady Gaga will open the show at the Barclays Center and the VMAs will also feature performances by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Justin Timberlake and Kanye West, among others.
The MTV Video Music Awards will broadcast live from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Sunday, August 25 starting at 9 PM ET. The pre-show, hosted by Canadian electro-indie artist Grimes, starts at 8 PM ET on MTV.
Every year, the only reason to watch the VMAs is to catch that one strange moment that everyone will be talking and tweeting about. Here’s our predictions:
1. Kanye West will perform his single "Black Skinhead," and will likely make his first public appearance alongside Kim Kardashian since the birth of their daughter North earlier this summer. There's always a shot that the increasingly volatile West will do or say something that will make half the audience facepalm at once.
2. Since Lady Gaga's new single "Applause" decisively lost the battle of the chart divas to Katy Perry's "Roar," she'll likely try to upstage Perry's performance.
3. Robin Thicke will reportedly be performing his inescapable "Blurred Lines" with guest star Miley Cyrus, who will no doubt showcase her newfound love of twerking.
4. Chances are strong that the multi-nominated Justin Timberlake will bring his pal Jimmy Fallon on stage.
5. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are performing their pro-gay marriage hit "Same Love." If there's going to be a political aspect to the show, perhaps the duo could address the growing global outrage over Russia's new anti-gay measures.
6. Now that the *NSYNC rumors have been squashed by Lance Bass himself, what can we expect for a surprise reunion?
7. Finally, as watchers of The Colbert Report well know, Daft Punk will be making a "surprise appearance" during the show. The ultimate surprise? If they took off the robot heads and turned out to be Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart all along.

"I go out and I don't feel tempted anymore, which is a beautiful thing. And I don't really have the time or energy to go, like, have sex with a bunch of strangers right now. It's just not where I'm at." Rapper Macklemore insists he has no intention of sleeping around and jeopardising his relationship with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis tour manager Tricia Davis.
DJ/producer Ryan Lewis has revealed he dodged an AIDS bullet at birth because his mother was HIV positive from a blood transfusion. One half of chart-topping duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, the hitmaker has opened up about his mum's health battle in a new Rolling Stone article, confessing she contracted the disease years before he was born - but didn't realise she was ill until her son was a baby.
Lewis reveals his sister was also born HIV-free, and the lawsuit over the transfusion put him through college.
The DJ admits his mother was given just three years to live when he was young, but she's still alive.
He tells Rolling Stone, "It changed my whole upbringing."
Bruno Mars will debut his new single onstage at the MTV Video Music Awards at the end of the month (Aug13). The pop star has been added to the line-up alongside Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, who will make history by performing their gay rights anthem Same Love at the event - the rapper and his sidekick will become the first act to perform at all three of MTV's major televised events, the mtvU Woodies, MTV Movie Awards and the VMAs, in a single calendar year.
The duo is up for six awards at the ceremony, which will take place at Brooklyn's Barclays Center on 25 August (13).
Justin Timberlake, the recipient of the event's MTV Vanguard Award, Lady Gaga and Robin Thicke have previously been announced as performers.
