Sir Elton John has reportedly helped to ensure the safe passage of a boy he once attempted to adopt and his family from the conflict in Ukraine. The rocker and his partner David Furnish came close to adopting little Lev Ageyev, now six, when he was a baby back in 2009, but local laws restricted the gay couple from making the dream a reality.
Elton never lost touch with Lev and his grandmother, Yulia, and now socialite Olena Franchuk, a friend of the British star, has told media outlets that Lev and his brother Artyom, seven, and their grandmother escaped the conflict in their homeland over the weekend (30-31Aug14) - and the Rocket Man singer was their saviour.
The singer’s representative has declined to comment on the story.
Britney Spears has confirmed reports her romance with David Lucado is over.
The couple has been dating for 18 months but the love affair has officially come to an end.
After online bloggers suggested a video of Lucado with another girl is being shopped around news outlets, Spears took to her Twitter.com account on Thursday (28Aug14) and wrote, "Ahhhh the single life!" Spears' publicist also confirmed the split to Billboard.com and said, "Yes, she's single."
The news of their breakup comes days after Spears invited Lucado on stage during her Las Vegas Britney: Piece of Me show on Saturday (23Aug14). During the sexy performance, he had a leash tied around his neck and was led around on all fours by Spears.
Lucado and Spears started dating in March 2013, shortly after the singer called off her engagement to former manager Jason Trawick.
Britney Spears has written a touching letter to a gay fan who credited her with giving him the strength to 'come out'. David LeCours met the Womanizer hitmaker before her concert in Las Vegas last week (ends24Aug14) and he handed her a letter thanking her for helping him come to terms with his sexuality and giving him the courage to tell his family and friends.
On Tuesday (26Aug14), a heartwarming letter of reply, written by Spears, arrived at LeCours' home.
The singer wrote, "I was so happy to receive your letter. I was very happy to hear about how courageous you've been about being openly gay. I've always been told as long as you know in your heart that's what matter most (sic)...
"I try to follow my heart and dreams every day of my life and I think that's why I am where I am today. It means so much to me to have a fan like you who takes the time to sit and write me such a touching letter. Your letter was both touching and sincere. I wish you nothing but the best in the future and hope you keep smiling. Shine bright always, Britney Spears."
LeCours adds on Instagram.com, "I honestly have no words at all. I just want to thank you so much for taking the time to write me back and being such an amazing inspiration to me. You mean more than anything to me and it means more than you know for responding to me. Thank you so much, I love you."
A North Carolina woman who is convinced David Cassidy is her biological father has penned an open letter to the veteran singer/actor in a desperate bid to establish paternity once and for all. Shelly Wright believes she was conceived during a one-night stand between The Partridge Family star and her mother back in the 1970s.
She has previously attempted to contact Cassidy via his publicist, seeking a DNA test to prove or disprove her claim, but alleges her requests to be put in touch with him have been rebuffed.
Now Wright, 40, has written a heartfelt note to the 64 year old in the pages of the National Enquirer magazine, in the hope it will be brought to Cassidy's attention.
In the note, she writes, "This is my cry: that the truth be revealed! All I want is to find my father - my real father.
"Growing up, I never looked like the man who was raising me as his daughter - and my whole family talked about it. Finally, I confronted my mother. She revealed that she'd had a one-night stand with David Cassidy in Nashville (Tennessee) in 1973. When I Googled him, I realized that I looked amazingly like David, and his daughter Katie."
She continues, "This is not a gimmick. It's not a game. I'm frustrated and desperate, and I just want David to know that I've been trying to contact him... And this isn't about money or fame. My husband has a good job. We have a good life. A well-known daytime talk show offered me a lot of money to tell my story. But I didn't do it - because my quest is to find my father. That's all.
"From the bottom of my heart, I'm begging David Cassidy - the man that I believe is my father - to agree to a DNA test. Then, and only then, will I find the truth."
Cassidy, who has been struggling to overcome his battle with alcoholism in recent months, has yet to respond to the letter. He has two legitimate children - actress daughter Katie from his relationship with Sherry Benedon, and son Beau with third wife Sue Shifrin, who filed for divorce in February (14) after 23 years of marriage.
Dance music superstar David Guetta has scored his fifth number one single on the U.K. music charts with Lovers On The Sun. The song, which features singer Sam Martin, has debuted at the top of the countdown.
Reacting to the news, Guetta says, "Wow, this is amazing! The UK has shown me so much love and support over the years, since I was an unknown DJ there. To be number one with the first song off my next album is taking a little bit of the pressure off finishing it, which is what I'm doing now."
Last week's number one, Nico & Vinz's Am I Wrong, drops to two while Magic!'s Rude takes the third spot.
Rounding out the top fie are Taylor Swift's Shake It Off and Wankelmut & Emma Louise's My Head Is A Jungle.

Elton John himself will also take to the stage during the event.

Rockers Whitesnake have recruited former Night Ranger star Joel Hoekstra to replace guitarist Doug Aldrich. Aldrich, who appeared on the band's last two albums, quit in May (14) to concentrate on "several recording and live commitments", and David Coverdale admits he didn't have to wait long to fill the vacancy.
Announcing the recruitment news on Thursday (21Aug14), the singer says, "One of the first, if not the first, guitarists to put his name forward after hearing that Doug Aldrich had left the band was an exceptionally talented musician whom we had met briefly last year when his band opened for Whitesnake in Arizona.
"Everyone was very impressed by him, not only for his ability to play amazing guitar, but, also his very agreeable personality and he was definitely foremost in our minds when we began to search for Doug's replacement. We jammed together and were mutually impressed enough to ask him to join Whitesnake on the spot. This was May 30th, 2014."
And Hoekstra's bandmates in Night Ranger couldn't be happier for the guitarist - as he fulfils his remaining tour dates with the group, they state, "The last eight-plus years have been a blast, and we wish him nothing but the best."
Hoekstra appeared on two Night Ranger studio albums and 2012's 30th-anniversary acoustic concert release, 24 Strings & A Drummer.

Hollywood actor Charlie Sheen showered himself in dollar bills after swapping an ice bucket for a pail full of cash for a charity challenge.
The former Two and a Half Men star threw $10,000 (£5,882) in bills over his head for his part in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, in which stars nominate each other for a cold shower to bring in money and raise awareness of Lou Gehrig's disease, also known as motor neurone disease.
A video posted online shows Sheen, who was nominated by hockey player Ryan Miller, tipping a silver bucket full of money over his head and exclaiming, "Oh wait, that's not ice. That's $10,000 in cash which I am donating to the ALS Foundation because let's face it, ice is gonna melt and this money is actually going to help people."
Sheen goes on to nominate his former Two and a Half Men co-star Jon Cryer, the show's creator Chuck Lorre, and replacement castmember Ashton Kutcher to follow suit, adding, "I am hereby calling out Jon Cryer, Chuck Lorre and Ashton Kutcher to identically do what I just did. C'mon guys, it's for a great cause."
Other stars to have taken part in the challenge include Justin Timberlake, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga, as well as singer Josh Groban who was doused in icy water on U.S. TV during a taping of talent show Rising Star.
