Comedian Chris Kattan has been sentenced to serve three years on probation following a DUI arrest in February (14). The former Saturday Night Live funnyman, 43, was busted after driving his Mercedes through a coned-off area of a California freeway and colliding with an official state transportation vehicle.
He pleaded not guilty to driving under the influence in March (14), and the case returned to court this week (begs11Aug14), when Kattan was handed probation for the incident and told to complete a three-month alcohol addiction program and attend over 100 Narcotics Anonymous classes.
He has also been banned from driving with any drugs in his system that he does not hold a prescription for, and ordered to pay restitution for the car crash, reports TMZ.com.
A hearing, scheduled for 16 September, will determine how much Kattan will have to pay for damage he caused to the Caltrans vehicle.
Latin singer Martha Heredia has been sentenced to seven years behind bars after pleading guilty to drug smuggling charges. The former Latin American Idol champ, who shot to fame on the talent show in 2009, was arrested at an airport in her native Dominican Republic in February, 2013 after police found 2.9 pounds (1.32 kilograms) of heroin stuffed in the heels of three pairs of platform shoes as she was about to board a flight to New York.
She confessed to trafficking heroin and was handed her punishment in court on Tuesday (12Aug14).
The 23 year old was also ordered to pay a $2,300 (£1,253) fine.
Rita Ora has spoken out in defence of troubled pop star Justin Bieber following his conviction in Florida this week (beg11Aug14), insisting she is a big fan of his new bad boy image. The 20-year-old singer has dashed his clean-cut reputation in recent months with a slew of legal troubles, including a conviction on a vandalism charge for pelting a neighbour's house with eggs, and pleading guilty to careless driving and resisting arrest stemming from a DUI bust in Florida.
However, Ora is adamant Bieber's antics, which also include an ongoing prosecution in his native Canada on an assault charge, just make him more attractive.
In an upcoming interview with 4Music.com show Rock The Look With Rimmel London, Ora is asked whether she "fancies" Bieber and she replies, "Who doesn't?"
Ora goes on to add, "I think everyone feels the Bieber fever the same way. I like how he's evolved, he's growing up, he's doing his thing. I like his stance and how he carries himself."
This week (beg11Aug14), Bieber was sentenced to anger management classes, ordered to pay a series of fines, and told to donate $50,000 (£29,412) to a local children's charity as part of a plea deal stemming from his DUI case.
British actor Ray Winstone has been handed a $340 (£200) fine for illegally driving his car in a bus lane. The Departed star was caught breaking the rules by police officers in Essex, England at the end of last year (13).
Under U.K. law, only buses are allowed to use the lane unless signs state otherwise.
At Chelmsford Magistrates Court in England last week (ends10Aug14), Winstone pleaded guilty and was handed the $340 fine. He was also ordered to pay $153 (£90) costs and a $34 (£20) victim surcharge.

2) Training for an exhausting physical competition and worried about your bodily functions! No reason to fret! Just pop a few Oxy-Incontinent pills and you’ll be fit as a fiddle for game day!

8) No idea how to get your kids to stop fighting? You’re looking at this all wrong! People will pay big money for video recordings of ad hoc grappling matches!
9) Too many chores, too little time? Never you mind it! Just manipulate a needy, recently estranged family member or in-law into donning the role of a British nanny so he’ll be forced to do them all for you!
10) Has some pesky interloper stumbled upon a heap of financial felonies you may or may not (that’s for the jury to decide!) have commited? No biggie! Just knock him out at an elaborately staged bachelor party, make him believe he is guilty of murder, and you’re in the clear!
11) Can't afford lunch due to your criminal family's recent bankruptcy? No problem! Parmesan cheese and mustard makes for some satisfying cuisine!
12) For that matter, are you light on ingredients for a hearty dinner? Just grab a few old chicken bones or discarded meat chunks, throw ‘em in a pot with some broth and potato… baby, you’ve got a stew going... But you already knew that one.
Justin Bieber has escaped a DUI conviction after striking a plea deal and agreeing to complete an anger management course following his arrest in Florida earlier this year (14). The Baby hitmaker was charged with DUI, resisting arrest and driving on an expired licence in January (14) after he was caught drag racing with a pal in Miami Beach.
He pleaded not guilty to the counts and the case was due to go to trial later this summer (14).
However, his attorney Mark Shapiro has managed to negotiate a deal with prosecutors, which was officially accepted in court on Wednesday (13Aug14).
Bieber was not present for the hearing, during which Shapiro entered guilty pleas on his behalf for misdemeanour charges of careless driving and resisting arrest.
Under the terms of the agreement, the DUI count was dropped and the singer was ordered to complete 12 hours of anger management counselling, pay a series of fines, and donate $50,000 (£29,412) to a local children's charity, which Bieber has already done.
It's the latest legal victory for Bieber - last month (Jul14), he also settled a misdemeanour vandalism case by pleading no contest to the count, relating to a reported egg attack on a California neighbour's home earlier this year (14).
He is still facing prosecution in Canada amid allegations he lashed out at a limousine driver in December (13), and he is also fighting an assault lawsuit filed against him by a paparazzo in Miami following an altercation last summer (13).
U.S. shock jock Howard Stern feels guilty for treating late actor Robin Williams as a "prop" during a controversial radio interview with the star early on in his career. Stern had an on-air chat with the Good Will Hunting Oscar winner when the presenter was a young rookie and he admits he acted like "a bit of an a**hole" during the segment.
Following Williams' death on Monday (11Aug14), Stern took to the mic on his Sirius XM show on Tuesday (12Aug14) to tell listeners of his regret at how the interview panned out.
He said, "Back in those days, I really felt I wasn't being malicious, but I felt a lot of pressure when a guest would come in... I never could give the microphone fully over to a guest and even allow my curiosity about a person (to) come through... Anyone who was in my studio was just a prop for me... I was a bit of an a**hole in a lot of ways with guests.
"I wasn't rude with Robin Williams, but I asked some questions that perhaps went into areas that he had enough of... I think my whole demeanour and attitude was just s**tty. I wasn't trying to be mean to Robin Williams. I was just trying to be provocative and interesting for the audience, and doing what it is that I thought had to be done. And I was an immature a**hole. And so that always haunted me... and then I kind of filed it away and forgot about it... This was a guy who should have been celebrated."
Williams died in an apparent suicide at his home in California at the age of 63.
Three concertgoers were hospitalised after a man stabbed them with a knife during the 2014 WE Fest in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota on Thursday (08Aug14). The incident took place at the Hilltop Campground across the street from the annual country music festival, which featured headliners including Jason Aldean, Brad Paisley, The Band Perry and Florida Georgia Line.
Reports suggest drunk Aaron Williams, 32, was walking around the campground, shocking people using a handheld taser when fellow concertgoers confronted him. He took out a knife and began lashing out at them, according to the Becky County Sheriff's Department.
Three men from Canada who attempted to stop Williams were slashed and taken to a local hospital to receive treatment for non-life threatening injuries. They were later released.
Williams was arrested an arraigned in court on Friday (08Aug14), where he pleaded not guilty to assault charges. He was released on bail and is due back in court for a hearing on 25 August (14).
The incident wasn't the only arrest at the festival - three concertgoers were taken into custody for assault, six for DWI (Driving While Intoxicated) charges, five on disorderly conduct charges and 12 people were arrested on warrant charges.
Controversial director Roman Polanski has pulled out of a planned trip to a Swiss film festival following a raft of protests over the decision to hand him a lifetime achievement award. The Chinatown moviemaker was due to pick up the top prize at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland this week (beg11Aug14), but the announcement triggered criticism because of Polanski's past.
The 80-year-old Oscar winner has been a wanted man in the U.S. since fleeing to France in the late 1970s, a day before he was due to be sentenced after pleading guilty to having unlawful sex with a minor.
He was arrested in Switzerland in 2009 and threatened with extradition back to America, but was eventually released and allowed to return to his home in France.
Organisers of the event called the storm over Polanski's award "unacceptable interference of some in the artistic liberty of the festival" but the star has now decided not to return to Switzerland.
He says in a statement, "Dear Friends, I am sorry to inform you that having considered the extent to which my planned appearance at the Locarno Festival provokes tensions and controversies among those opposed to my visit, even as I respect their opinions, it is with a heavy heart that I must cancel my visit. I am deeply saddened to disappoint you."
Polanski had also been scheduled to present his new movie Venus In Fur, which stars his wife Emmanuelle Seigner, at the festival and host a film-making masterclass.

Tracy Morgan's attorney has rubbished reports the comedian is in good health, insisting he is "still struggling" following his major car crash earlier this year (14).
The former Saturday Night Live star was hospitalised in June (14) when the limousine he was travelling in was hit by a Wal-Mart truck, killing his good friend James McNair and leaving Morgan in a critical condition.
The funnyman entered a rehabilitation facility last month (Jul14) to recover from his injuries, which included a broken leg and rib, and he was later pictured on his feet with a walker and reportedly said, "I feel strong".
However, his attorney Benedict Morelli has slammed the reports, telling U.S. TV show Today, "He's still struggling, but he's a fighter and he's had issues before that he's fought through and he's fighting hard... The interesting thing is at the beginning, the Internet was saying that he was dead, that he had lost a leg... there were all kinds of false reports. Now it's coming out that he's doing great, none of those things are true or accurate."
Morelli is suing sued Wal-Mart bosses for being careless and negligent and claimed in the lawsuit the company should have known driver Kevin Roper had allegedly been awake for more than 24 hours. Roper has pleaded not guilty to charges of vehicular homicide and assault by auto.
