Former The Cure star Porl Thompson has legally changed his name to Pearl and vowed to dedicate the rest of his life to art after selling off stage gear and equipment linked to his former band. The multi-instrumentalist, who co-founded The Cure with Robert Smith in 1976 and spent three stints with the band until turning his back on music in 2012, insists only a call from his hero Iggy Pop would make him consider putting down the paint brush and returning to the studio or the stage - and even then it would only be for a short time.
Thompson, who launches his first-ever U.S. art exhibition, Through the Eyes of Birds, at the Mr. Musichead gallery in Los Angeles on Thursday evening (05Mar15), says, "I doubt if I would go back to music in a full-time way unless Iggy Pop calls... If he was looking for somebody, I'd be intrigued - just for a period.
"But the freedom to move about and paint and sketch is the agenda now. I've not given enough time to painting. I've been painting since I was a little boy and I'd like to dedicate my time to that. I don't have a great deal of connection with the music world.
"I've buried myself in what I've been doing. I spend a lot of time on my houseboat in England and I don't get out... You have to immerse yourself in the art."
His debut art show features paintings inspired by his treks through the canyons in Malibu, California over the past 18 months, and the exhibition only came about when Mr. Musichead owner Sam Milgrom spotted the pieces hanging at the home of a friend of Thompson's.
The former rocker tells WENN, "It has taken so long for me to put on a show here because in the past, my commitments with music took up a lot of time... I gave some paintings to friends and they were spotted and Sam at Mr. Musichead showed some interest. I had no intention to do the show; I wanted to build up the work, but it came at the right time."
And, as for the name change, the artist explains, "It's really all about starting afresh. Friends have always called me Pearl and it really seemed to fit with my new path. I'm legally Pearl now. I think it's good for your mind to say, 'Right, that was then, this is now'."
Thompson hasn't completely given up on music - he kept hold of a couple of his old guitars after 2012's gear auction and last year (14) teamed up with DJ and actor Sumach Ecks, aka Gonjasufi, to record tracks for an upcoming "experimental" album.
He adds, "I'd had enough of music in 2012 but I thought he was cool and so we jammed for a few days, but I won't be going out on the road or committing to any music ventures. I'm not really in that area right now.
"I definitely have not enjoyed any of the limelight side of things. I'm quite a private person really, always have been."
Cinderella's Prince Charming Richard Madden had security guards on high alert on the set of the new Disney film after continually "teasing" them by playing around with the custom-made Swarovski glass slipper they had been hired to protect. Director Sir Kenneth Branagh had bosses at the luxury jewellery firm specially design Cinderella's shoe for lead actress Lily James, but the priceless item was only on loan to filmmakers for the shoot, so Swarovski executives sent two bodyguards to ensure the fragile slipper would be returned in one piece.
However, Branagh reveals Game of Thrones star Madden would often mess around with the one-of-a-kind shoe just to put the guards to the test.
He explains, "Two very impressive guys from Swarovski came along with the white gloves and you knew when it was in the studio because you could hear the sound of shrieking all across the lot (from shoe fans)... big time slipper groupies. People wanted their foot in that shoe, I can tell you!
"Of course, it was very valuable and you couldn't drop it, and our brilliant prince, Richard Madden... he would tease the Swarovski boys by throwing it up and you could see these guys running (towards him): 'Please don't drop the slipper!'"
Rockers Tommy Lee and Pete Wentz have formed an unlikely bond over their shared love of cooking. The Fall Out Boy star sharpened his kitchen skills following his split from wife Ashlee Simpson in 2011 so he could adequately care for their son Bronx Mowgli.
He was so keen to expand his expertise that he turned to his friends for help and advice, and even urged the Motley Crue drummer to hand over the recipe for an egg dish he showed off online.
Wentz tells Q magazine, "Until I was 30 I couldn't cook. But then I was a single dad, so I thought, 'I'm gonna get good enough for this.' I got a skillet, and I got these really goofy 'cooking for kids' cookbooks...
"I'll get obsessed with something and want to perfect that thing. (I) really wanted to know how to poach an egg... (Lee had) this crazy 'eggs in hell' dish. I got in touch and asked him how he did it, and he sent me the recipe. I did think, 'This is weird - Tommy Lee just sent me an egg recipe.'"
Our favorite show on TV, Bates Motel, returns for its third season on Monday, March 9. We've had to last an entire year without being creeped out by the word "mother" and living each week in suspense waiting to find out what's happening in White Pine Bay. Thankfully, the wait is almost over. Bates Motel is re-opening!
1. There will be plenty more moments where Norman's so cute that you don't care if he's going to kiss you or kill you.
Right? We're not alone in that, are we?
2. There will be plenty more Norma being Norma.
3. And tons more Dylan all, "am I the only normal one in this whole town?"
4. There will be lots of

*Especially not when Norman has a weapon.

Like, why does anyone on this show even wear a shirt in the first place?
11. Norman will say really profound things that also really apply to himself.
12. We have more of the creepiest mother-son relationship to cringe at.
13. Emma will also continue to side-eye from the sidelines, trying to understand the Bates family.
14. Norman will have more silent rage-fueled pouts.
15. While Norma will continue to feel bad for herself.
16. And self medicate, because Norma has more problems than everyone else does.
17. We will (hopefully) have more magical moments of awkward facial expressions from Norman.

21. And he'll make you feel special.
The Maze Runner star Dylan O'brien has dismissed online reports suggesting he's in talks to become the new Spider-Man in an upcoming Marvel blockbuster.
Bloggers suggested the 23 year old had all but closed a deal for the role of the web-slinging superhero earlier this week (beg02Mar15), but now O'Brien himself has released a statement insisting he's not currently in the running to take on the role of Peter Parker's alter-ego.
He says, "It's nothing but flattering. It's never something I would want to get myself excited about, since I know I haven't heard about it from a professional standpoint. I've always wanted to play Peter Parker, obviously. I feel like any actor my age... and my name being tossed with Logan Lerman's is the coolest thing ever, too. I just think that kid is f**king fantastic."
He adds, "Professionally, I haven't heard anything about it. I've only heard from, like, (rumours) online. It makes me feel bad because I'm, like, disappointing a big chunk of fans across the nation."
Spider-Man is currently being played on the big screen by Brit Andrew Garfield, who reportedly won't be involved with a planned The Avengers cross-over episode.
"I went through this whole phase where I wanted to be (artist) Georgia O'Keeffe and one day my art teacher came over to me, and she, like, hit me over the head with this rolled-up piece of paper... and she's like, 'You're terrible! You're never going to be an artist. You're a showgirl, get out of here'." A teacher shut down Madonna's dreams of becoming an artist.
British singer-turned-soap actress Suzanne Shaw is expecting a child with her businessman fiance Sam Greenfield. The former Hear'Say star made the announcement on Twitter.com on Wednesday (04Mar15) by posting a video in which she hands her partner a positive pregnancy test and reveals they are having a baby.
The footage also shows the couple breaking the news to Shaw's 10-year-old son Corey, from her previous relationship with entertainer Darren Day.
Shaw says of the video, "I wanted to make the big reveal extra special for both Sam and Corey so I decided to video the occasion. We're all over the moon and can't wait to meet him or her when they arrive in October."
The couple's engagement was announced last year (14). Shaw was previously married to radio DJ Jason King, but they separated in 2012.
Rockers Fall Out Boy planned to buy a vineyard but abandoned the project after realising they had no passion for wine-making. The Dance, Dance hitmakers wanted to invest some of their earnings and launch their own drinks range but the idea faded away when the size of the undertaking hit home.
Bassist Pete Wentz tells Q magazine, "It probably would've been a bad idea. The thing I've learned about going into other fields is that you have to respect the art of what's there. You can't go in and say, 'We'll stomp on some grapes, slap a label on it and it'll be great!'"
"I never wanted fame. I've never sought it out. I struggle with the whole awards idea... I just want to work with good directors and cool characters." Orphan Black star and Golden Globe-nominated actress Tatiana Maslany has never been eager to become a celebrity.
Ryan Phillippe and his actor pals Seth Green and Breckin Meyer were once mischief makers who targeted inflatables up and down Ventura Boulevard in California. The Crash star insists the three amigos never did anything terrible, but they were "obsessed with light vandalism".
Phillippe explains, "There used to be a Kong Video on Ventura Boulevard that had a giant inflatable King Kong on top of it; we wanted to unplug (it)... We had an obsession with unplugging inflatables on top of buildings. We would find ladders and things and go up on top of these buildings and unplug inflatables.
"We also broke into the Sherman Oaks Galleria (shopping mall)... We would go into the Nordstrom's and rearrange furniture."
The actor reveals their crime spree only turned malicious when they started losing out on major film roles.
He adds, "Sometimes, if we'd lose a job and there was promotion for that movie, we may have removed a bus stop poster or two; we might have unscrewed some lights on a billboard."
