Rapper/singer Cee Lo Green temporarily deactivated his Twitter.com account late on Monday (01Sep14) after followers took aim at him for an ill-advised rape comment.
The Forget You hitmaker, real name Thomas DeCarlo Callaway, hit headlines last year (13) after an ex-girlfriend accused him of slipping her ecstasy during a dinner date in Los Angeles in 2012 and then having sex with her. A charge of sexual assault was previously dropped by police due to a lack of evidence, and last week (ends29Aug14), he agreed to serve three years of probation and complete 360 hours of community service after pleading no contest to a felony count of sharing ecstasy.
Green, who denied taking advantage of the woman without her consent, broke his silence on the case on Monday, when he took to his Twitter.com account and appeared to vent his frustration at the allegations.
In a series of posts, he wrote, "People who have really been raped REMEMBER!!! If someone is passed out they're not even WITH you consciously! so WITH Implies consent."
The ill-advised tweet prompted followers to take aim at Green, and he later tried to make amends for the careless comments, posting, "Let me 1st praise god for exoneration fairness & freedom (sic)! Secondly I sincerely apologize for my comments being taken so far out of context... "I only intended on a healthy exchange to help heal those who love me from the pain I had already caused from this. Please forgive me as it was your support that got me thru (sic) this to begin with. I'd never condone the harm of any women. Thank you."
Green deleted his offending tweets and subsequently shut down his profile on the microblogging site. However, his page was live again by Tuesday (02Sep14) afternoon.
Singer/rapper Cee Lo Green has been handed three years of probation and a community service sentence after striking a plea deal relating to an ecstasy charge.
The Forget You hitmaker, real name Thomas DeCarlo Callaway, hit headlines last year (13) after an ex-girlfriend accused him of slipping her ecstasy before having sex with her following a dinner date in Los Angeles in 2012. He pleaded not guilty to the claim at the time of his booking, but subsequently agreed to plead no contest to a felony count of sharing ecstasy in a deal which allows him to maintain his innocence.
He entered the plea during a brief court hearing on Friday (29Aug14), when Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mark Young ordered the star to serve probation.
The 39 year old must also complete 360 hours of community work at the MusiCares Foundation of the Recording Academy, which provides financial aid and medical care to musicians who have fallen on hard times. He must also attend 52 private alcohol counselling sessions, reports TMZ.com.
Prosecutors had previously dropped a charge of sexual assault against Green on the grounds of insufficient evidence. The plaintiff, whose identity has not been revealed, alleged Green spiked her drink during a date in November, 2012, and she later woke up naked in a bed with him in the room.
Actress Kathleen 'Kick' Kennedy has ended her romance with Paul Simon's musician son Harper after less than a year. The Newsroom star, daughter of attorney Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., began dating Harper Simon after meeting him at a party in Morocco last year (13), but they have called time on their relationship, reports the New York Post.
Kennedy, who is the great-niece of assassinated U.S. President John F. Kennedy, was previously linked to her The Newsroom co-star Thomas Matthews.
A front gate from Dylan Thomas' holiday home, which was unearthed by actor Michael Sheen, is set to go under the hammer next month (Sep14). The Masters of Sex star found the rusty relic stuck in mud in 1984 while visiting the seaside town of Laugharne, Wales, where the Under Milk Wood writer spent his final years.
Sheen's pal Charley Uzzell-Edwards says, "We were walking down the hill on a jolly boys' day out to check out the boathouse when we saw this metal sticking out of the mud... My dad had a photo of Dylan Thomas standing in front of the gate of the boathouse so we knew it was the actual one."
The pair took the front gate and now Uzzell-Edwards is selling it at a special auction dedicated to Thomas in Cardiff, Wales on 6 September (14). The item is expected to fetch $1,360 (£800).
The auction is one of many events taking place in the run-up to the 100th anniversary of Thomas' birth, which will be marked on 27 October (14). The poet died in 1953, aged 39.
A U.S. judge has thrown out a lawsuit filed against the makers of Amanda Seyfried's Linda Lovelace biopic by the producers of 1972 porn movie Deep Throat. Bosses at Arrow Productions, who own the rights to Deep Throat, launched legal action last year (13), just weeks before the release of Lovelace, a film about the adult movie's star with Seyfried in the title role.
They claimed clips from the porn film were used in the biopic without permission and infringed their copyright. They also alleged Lovelace was too similar to their own film and sought $10 million (£5.8 million) in compensation.
New York District Judge Thomas Griesa dismissed the case on Tuesday (26Aug14) and ruled the two films are completely different as one is biographical while the other is porn.
He wrote in his ruling, "Lovelace has an entirely different purpose - it is a critical biographical film. Thus, given that the two films have entirely different purposes, it is impossible that defendants' could have copied the core of Deep Throat."
He added that the use of old footage put a "new, critical perspective on the life of Linda Lovelace and the production of Deep Throat" and did not tarnish the reputation of the original movie.
Officials at Arrow Productions are considering an appeal against the ruling. They previously tried to block the distribution of Lovelace last year (13) but a judge denied their request.

Costumes and personal items from country music queen Naomi Judd's career are set to go under the hammer at auction in Beverly Hills in November (14).
The award-winning singer/songwriter has cleared out her closets and storage spaces and those belonging to her husband Larry Strickland, who performed with Elvis Presley, in the hope of raising cash for charity.
Highlight items include Judd's wooden Thomas Model 217 'Norman Rockwell' 1920s-style replica radio that she listened to as a child, a guitar she received as a gift from the late Buck Owens, the velvet gown she wore for an appearance on Bob Hope's Bag Full of Christmas Memories in 1993, and a custom-made ensemble she wore to the 1991 Academy of Country Music Awards, where she picked up the Top Vocal Duet Award alongside daughter Wynonna.
Bosses at Julien's Auctions are handling the sale, and some of the proceeds will benefit Tuckers House, a non-profit organisation that has been developed to partner with families of children with disabilities and their healthcare providers.
Soul band The Commodores are suing former bandmate Thomas Mcclary for allegedly using the group's name without permission. The Easy hitmakers, who reached their peak in the 1970s, still perform regularly despite the departure of Lionel Richie and McClary in the 1980s to pursue solo careers.
According to the lawsuit, obtained by TMZ.com, McClary is allegedly using The Commodores' name for his current shows. They claim he is confusing fans by calling his group The Commodores featuring Thomas McClary and singing their greatest hits.
The current line-up is seeking the money McClary made from the performances which he used their name to promote.
Actor Thomas Gibson's former manager is suing the star for commissions he insists he is owed following their split earlier this year (14). Frontline Entertainment Management's Craig Dorfman claims he is due 10 per cent of the $4.8 million (GBP2.8 million) annual salary his former client picks up as the star of TV series Criminal Minds.
According to documents filed in Los Angeles Superior Court and obtained by Deadline Hollywood, Dorfman has represented Gibson since 1996, and supported him through a series of career crises.
Dorfman claims Gibson has now breached an oral agreement made in 2003 by failing to pay him 10 per cent of his salary.
He alleges that his former client demanded the commissions be reduced to 7.5 per cent, and when Dorfman refused, he was terminated. He is seeking at least $480,000 (GBP282,000) in damages.
Cheer up, Paul Rudd. Pull off your hood, put down your gym bag, and turn that frown upside down... rather, cock the extremities of that brooding horizontal bracket a few degrees north. Just because your pal Edgar Wright was booted from the director's chair on the Ant-Man set, production has restarted over in San Francisco, and the public's once fervent faith in the developing Marvel movie is now in comparable to that for Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, that doesn't mean you have to look so bummed in the first official pic for the upcoming superhero flick.
But maybe there's another reason that Rudd is down in the dumps. Though we can't exactly see what sour travesty is meeting the poor man's eyeline, we can begin to imagine a multitude of nightmares that might earn such melancholy from our dear, sweet Scott Lang. For instance...
