Hit thriller Gone Girl and sci-fi action movie Guardians Of The Galaxy are among the top nominees at the 2014 New Now Next Awards. Gone Girl, based on Gillian Flynn's 2012 book of the same name, has been shortlisted twice for Best New Lead Film Actress for Rosamund Pike and Carrie Coon, alongside Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Belle), Jennie Slate (Obvious Child) and Natalie Dormer (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1), while author Flynn is up for Best New Screenwriter.
Meanwhile, James Gunn will battle it out for the title of Best Motion Picture By a New Filmmaker for Guardians of the Galaxy, and his leading man Chris Pratt will compete for Best New Lead Film Actor, facing off with Miles Teller (Whiplash), Ellar Coltrane (Boyhood), Dylan O'Brien (The Maze Runner) and Ansel Elgort (The Fault In Our Stars).
Movie stars also dominated the theatre acting categories, with Bryan Cranston (All The Way), Rupert Grint (It's Only a Play) and Michael Cera (This Is Our Youth) up for Best New Broadway Lead Actor, while Rose Byrne (You Can't Take It With You), Maggie Gyllenhaal (The Real Thing) and Michelle Williams (Cabaret) feature in the female equivalent.
In the TV section, acting nominees include Orange is the New Black's Lorraine Toussaint, House of Cards' Molly Parker, Pedro Pascal from Game of Thrones and The Leftovers' Justin Theroux, while Gwen Stefani's turn on The Voice has earned her an unexpected nod in the Best New Television Personality category.
Music nominees feature the likes of Iggy Azalea, her Fancy collaborator Charli XCX and Meghan Trainor for Best New Musician (Female), with Nick Jonas, Sam Smith and Paolo Nutini leading the way in the male category.
The annual awards show highlights the best new talent in pop culture. Winners will be determined by public vote and announced during a ceremony in December (14).
Rapper Iggy Azalea has landed her first national fashion ad campaign alongside her U.S. basketball player boyfriend Nick Young. The Fancy hitmaker, who signed a modeling contract with Wilhelmina Models in 2012, will appear in new ads for U.S. teen retailer Forever 21.
Azalea, who recently shot the campaign photos with Young, tells People.com, "As the hours rolled by I think Nick started to realise photoshoots are hard work too. It was funny watching him have that revelation..."
She continues, "The trickiest thing is not having any clue what you're doing!"
Young adds, "It was real cool. We had great chemistry."
"First off, you don't make Snoop Dogg do anything. I just called... and just spoke to him. That's it. I mean, it was a very short conversation. He graciously and very humbly said he knew what I was calling for and, based on our relationship, we would move forward with no issues." Rapper T.I. confirms he acted as mediator between his protege Iggy Azalea and friend Snoop Dogg after the two began a war of words online earlier this month (Oct14) following unkind comments the Drop It Like It's Hot hitmaker made about the Fancy star's looks.
Pitbull has signed up to host the American Music Awards again after his debut last year (13) turned into ratings gold.
The rapper will front the 2014 show from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on 23 November (14), and admits he's thrilled to be back. He says, "World, who would have thought Pitbull hosting the AMAs two years in a row. The harder I work, the luckier I get. Thank you (TV producers at) ABC and Dick Clark Productions for the amazing opportunity. More than anything, let's get ready to have fun."
Pitbull will also perform, along with Charli XCX. Other acts and presenters will be announced in the coming weeks. Iggy Azalea leads all nominations with six, just ahead of John Legend, Katy Perry and Pharrell Williams, who each have five. Meanwhile, AMA bosses have hit back at Sinead O'Connor's claims she was uninvited from performing at this year's awards ceremony because The Pope was not interested in introducing her.
In a post on her website earlier this month (Oct14), the singer claimed Dick Clark Productions officials reached out to the pontiff and asked him to introduce O'Connor, who famously ripped up a photo of his predecessor as part of a protest against the Catholic Church during an appearance on Saturday Night Live in 1992, and he refused to get back to them. As a result, Sinead alleges show bosses dumped her planned performance. But sources close to AMA officials insist the Nothing Compares 2 U hitmaker has her facts all wrong, telling TMZ.com her remarks are ridiculous.
A man alleging he is Iggy Azalea's common-law husband has threatened to reveal the rapper gave him a sexually transmitted disease if she doesn't agree to settle his divorce suit out of court, according to the Fancy hitmaker herself. Azalea updated fans on her legal battle with former boyfriend Jefe Wine via Twitter.com on Friday (17Oct14), insisting she's keen to take her ex's claims to court.
The chart-topper reveals her lawyer has agreed to "be served 'divorce' papers," but her Texas-based ex's legal team wants to serve her in person "probably so it can be another TMZ story".
Iggy adds, "I also was told yesterday via his lawyer if i do not settle out of court they will go to the press and say i gave him (Wine) an STD, whats next?
"Unfortunately to file common law 'divorce' all you need is three of your friends to sign a statement swearing the persons story is true. Actually proving it in court is another story im just waiting to get infront of a judge so it can be disproven & obtain a restraining order.
"The thing that i find awfully sad about this whole story is that the mother of this mans 3 year old child is in court right now... saying he stalked, headbutted and tried to strangle her in january after their 7 year relationship ended. Why is her truth being overlooked in favor of sensationalism? It makes me so sad & my heart goes out to Annette Buitrago."
She adds, "Ive avoided texas entirely for the last 5 years. when i do go now i have a police escort & two armed bodyguards, evidently for good reason."
Azalea concluded her Twitter rant by stating, "i have such a great collection of witnesses now and I'm really excited to get my day in court and see justice prevail."
Rapper and producer Jefe Wine, real name Maurice Williams, has asked a judge to recognise his five-year relationship with Azalea as a 'marriage' in a bid to stop her from selling off assets they accumulated as a couple.
She previously told TMZ.com, "That's like somebody I dated for about six months when I was 17, I haven't heard from this person in years."
The rapper filed a lawsuit against him last month (Sep14) in a bid to stop Williams from profiting from early songs he allegedly swiped from her computer.
Iggy Azalea has blasted executives at her Australian record label for ignoring her pleas to stop handing publications old photos of her.
The "Fancy" hitmaker was upset when the current issue of Maxim Australia hit news stands back home - because it featured an old shot of the rapper in a gold bikini on the cover. Azalea, who is now based in the U.S., took aim at her label bosses Down Under via Twitter on Thursday (16Oct14), accusing them of selling the photo of her, despite her requests not to dig up old shots. She wrote:
"Im going to publicly say something to the australian division of my record label right now because my message seems to be ignored privately. stop giving permission on my behalf for magazines to purchase images of me that have already been printed in major publications for covers. "australian label, i love you guys but you allowed my image to be sold to cosmo Aus when i told you i would prefer for that not to happen... and now this morning i see you've allowed maxim australia to buy an image from a 2011 complex mag shoot and put it on the cover. "i think its awesome anyone would want me on the cover of a magazine, but theres a right way to make that happen and the australian label clearly aren't respecting my wishes. a magazine cover deserves an accompanying photoshoot not a reused image (sic)." She adds, "maxim australia, thanks for the love and I'm sorry no one asked me. i would have love (sic) to have given an interview & done a shoot with u guys (sic)."
"in the last 2 wks all of my female friends have developed crushes on nick jonas and Im starting to think we have an epidemic on our hands." Rapper Iggy Azalea jokes about Nick Jonas' growing sex appeal after he bulked up to play a mixed martial arts fighter in new TV series Kingdom.
Hip-hop veteran Snoop Dogg has issued an apology to rapper Iggy Azalea for poking fun her appearance after her mentor T.I. stepped in to urge him to end their was of words. Azalea first took issue with Snoop Dogg after he made light of the Fancy hitmaker's make-up free looks in a "mean" Instagram.com snap on Sunday (12Oct14), but her response only made the 42 year old step up his online attack and he continued to mock her in a series of further posts on Tuesday (14Oct14).
He also appeared to threaten her in a nasty Instagram video, stating, "You're f**king with the wrong n**ger! And your n**ger better check you (put you in line) before I do."
Azalea, who is dating Los Angeles Lakers basketball player Nick Young, fired back at the profanity-laden clip with a lengthy post on her blog, which she concluded by insisting, "ima (I will) be the bigger man in this situation and leave it be."
The heated dispute prompted Azalea's pal T.I. to intervene and he managed to convince Snoop Dogg to put an end to the feud and apologise.
Snoop shared the news with fans in a new Instagram video on Wednesday afternoon (15Oct14), and although it's clear who he's talking about, he does not mention Azalea by name.
In the post, he says, "Boys and girls, I just got off the phone with my homeboy Tip (T.I.), the king of Atlanta, and it's officially over.
"No more bad talk, I apologise. Yeah, I apologise, I'm sorry, I won't do it again."
Accepting the apology on Twitter.com, Azalea writes, "I appreciate the apology @snoopdogg... Let that be that people, time to focus on the positive things I've got going on. no time to dwell on the negative."
Rapper Iggy Azalea has written a lengthy message to fans to express her upset following Snoop Dogg's online attack on her appearance.
The "Drop It Like It's Hot" hitmaker poked fun at Azalea's looks on Instagram.com on Sunday (12Oct14) and continued mocking her online over the following days. The "Fancy" rapper snapped back at the hip-hop veteran following his initial outburst, and now she has written a lengthy post on Twitter about the feud, insisting she is baffled by Snoop Dogg's behaviour and compared him to Mean Girls movie bully Regina George. She writes, "I could post a million more memes (pictures) about Snoop Dogg making fun of the way he looks too, that's easy... But the real joke here is the middle aged man whose butt hurt I asked why he was pulling a Regina George move on social media... If I'm a b**ch for asking why you are supportive to my face but another way on your Instagram then so be it (sic)... post away about this 'b**ch' I've seen all the memes the word has to offer in regards to me I honestly don't care... "It's a shame because honestly everyone on my team myself included have only ever sung his praises. But there you have it... Personally I only shake hands & offer my support to those I actually like & I don't post s**t about others for attention to begin with... ima (I will) be the bigger man in this situation and leave it be."
Hip-hop veteran Snoop Dogg is refusing to apologise for mocking Iggy Azalea's make-up free appearance online, insisting she should "let it go". The Drop It Like It's Hot hitmaker stirred controversy on Sunday (12Oct14) when he shared a viral image of an albino woman with cornrows, with the words, "Iggy Azalea No Make Up", splashed across the photo.
The Instagram post, which he later deleted, caught the attention of Azalea, who promptly hit out at Snoop Dogg in a series of angry messages on Twitter.com.
She wrote, "@snoopdogg why would you post such a mean pic on insta (Instagram) when you send your body guards to ask me for pictures every time we are at shows together...? And everytime (sic) I've spoken to you, you've always been nice as hell. I'm disappointed you'd be such an a** for no reason."
Snoop has since replied to Azalea's criticism by responding in character as his bizarre, bespectacled white guy alter ego, Todd.
Alongside a photo of himself in whiteface make-up and a blond wig, he wrote, "So says Todd cool out lil sis he was only jokin (sic)", before appearing to retract his apologetic stance by adding, "Now I said what I said b**ch now let it go before I go all in on ya pink punk a** yeah u b**ch (sic)!!"
He then followed up those posts by uploading another Internet meme, a side-by-side comparing Azalea's looks to those of actor Marlon Wayans in drag in 2004 comedy White Chicks. That photo comparison featured the words, "so we just gonna ignore that fact that iggy look like marlon from white chicks (sic)".
In the accompanying caption, Snoop Dogg wrote, "Ok last one. Hahahahaha I didn't make this s**t up I jus post smoke n chill Hahahahahahah. So says Todd (sic)".
Azalea has yet to comment on Snoop's latest Instagram activity.
