Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora debuted a new song detailing his past substance abuse issues at an anti-drug rally for youngsters in his native New Jersey this week (beg26May14). Sambora has a long history of substance abuse, entering rehab facilities in both 2007 and 2011 to battle his addictions, before finally getting sober.
He drew on his past troubles during an anti-drug forum at a high school on Tuesday (27May14) by debuting a song called Lighthouse, which he hopes will give listeners strength to fight their demons.
He tells reporters, "I wanted to do something optimistic, a beacon of light and hope. Everyone needs that light when they're far off the shore."
The rally, which was attended by around 5,000 youngsters and parents, was held to raise awareness about the abuse of heroin and prescription medication in the Jersey Shore region.
Sambora, who is father to a teenage daughter, addressed the fellow parents in the crowd, saying, "I'm mostly here as the father of a 16-year-old girl. I'm scared... But we can't be scared silent. Together we can make a difference because this epidemic has to stop."
Proceeds from Lighthouse's sales will help fund a drug treatment facility planned for the area.
The musician is father to 16-year-old Ava, whose mother is actress Heather Locklear.
Rocker Richie Sambora has opened up about his feelings for ex-wife Heather Locklear, insisting he still loves the actress. The Bon Jovi guitarist and Melrose Place star split in 2007 after 13 years of marriage, but Sambora tells People magazine that he still harbours feelings for the mother of his daughter, Ava.
He says, "Time does heal old wounds. I mean, I still love Heather and I know she loves me. She's the mother of my child, man. What can you say?... My favorite girl - her and my mom, I always say."
Last month (Apr14), Sambora and Locklear were spotted on a family vacation together in Hawaii and were all smiles while walking on the beach.
Locklear has recently been linked to plastic surgeon Dr. Marc Mani.
Former Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora is convinced the classic rock band "isn't the real thing" since he walked away from the group last year (13). The rocker abruptly left the band's tour last April (13), citing his desire to spend more time at home with his 16-year-old daughter Ava, and he has now embarked on his own solo trek in Australia.
Sambora tells Melbourne's Herald Sun newspaper that Bon Jovi just isn't the same without the original line-up: "At the end of the day, if you're going to buy a can of Coke, you want the real thing."
Sambora also hints that he is still at odds with Bon Jovi frontman Jon Bon Jovi, whom he claims "just has a different mentality," insisting "I know Mick Jagger wouldn't tour without Keith Richards and call it the Rolling Stones."
He adds, "For the longest time, even now, I'm considered Jon Bon Jovi's side arm, or something... Hey, I built this band, too."
When asked about a potential reunion with the Livin' on a Prayer hitmakers, Sambora adds, "I'm not saying this band will not get back together at some point, or not. There will have to be a lot of communication, a lot of talking."
Rocker Richie Sambora is heading to Australia for a series of solo concerts in the New Year (14), nine months after quitting Bon Jovi's 2013 tour. The guitarist sparked questions about his future with the band in April (13), when he abruptly pulled out of the group's live dates due to a "personal matter", prompting some to speculate that he had fallen out with frontman Jon Bon Jovi over money.
Sambora recently opened up about the real reason behind his departure, insisting he simply wanted to spend more time with his teenage daughter Ava, but now he's preparing to hit the road on his own.
However, the musician is adamant he will be reuniting with his bandmates at some point in the future.
He tells TMZ.com, "Everything's cool. It (Bon Jovi's world tour) is almost over, actually I'm gonna be doing some Australian (solo) dates in January. (We will reunite) sometime... It's not a forever thing."
Ironically, Sambora's shows Down Under will take place just weeks after the Livin' On A Prayer hitmakers wrap up the seven-date Aussie leg of their Because We Can trek.
Sambora released his third solo album, Aftermath of the Lowdown, last year (12).
Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora quit the band's 2013 tour so he could spend more time with his daughter. The rocker left the tour in April (13) citing a "personal matter" and he was dogged by speculation his departure was down to a falling out with singer Jon Bon Jovi over money.
Sambora remained tight-lipped about his reasons for quitting, but he has now revealed his decision to stay at home was due to a desire to spend more time with his daughter, Ava, who turned 16 last month (Oct13).
He tells The Today Show Australia, "Honestly, I went out for the first leg of the tour, I had no idea this was going to happen. I just started spending time with my kid between (tour) legs, and my spirit wouldn't pull myself out the door. I just needed to be home."
Sambora has not ruled out rejoining the band, and insists quitting the tour doesn't mean the end of the rock group.
He says, "I think (I will rejoin the band), yeah, I'm pretty sure. I don't think it's going to be the end of the band or anything like that."
The stars wed in 1994 and went on to have a daughter, Ava, but the former Melrose Place actress filed for divorce in 2006.
Now, six years on from their split, Sambora reveals he has a good relationship with his ex thanks to their devotion to their 15 year old offspring.
He tells Access Hollywood Live, "We're very good. It's actually even beyond for (our daughter's) sake. Heather and I really respect each other and we've become better friends, I think, now that we're not married. (We) go out all the time as a family."
Locklear began dating her former Melrose Place co-star in 2007 and they announced plans to wed in August (11).
However, the couple has since decided to end its engagement and Locklear was snapped without her diamond ring on Monday (14Nov11) as she attended The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 premiere in Hollywood.
A representative for the actress tells TooFab.com, "Jack and Heather are no longer engaged."
The stars were last seen together in September (11) as they celebrated Locklear's 50th birthday in Hawaii.
Locklear has been married twice before - she was Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee's wife from 1986 to 1994, and she divorced Bon Jovi rocker Richie Sambora, the father of her teenage daughter Ava, in 2007.
The former Melrose Place star began dating the 51 year old in 2007, shortly after she divorced Bon Jovi rocker Richie Sambora, the father of her 13-year-old daughter, Ava.
Locklear's representative confirmed the wedding news to People.com.
It will be the actress' third marriage - she was also wed to Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee from 1986 to 1994.
The engagement is an early birthday surprise for Locklear - she will celebrate turning 50 in September (11).
So I've decided that this summer, celebrities are doing one of three things: getting engaged, having babies, or responding to YouTube Marine Corps Ball invites. It just feels like I'm always writing one of these topics every day, but that just shows our Hollywood stars are keeping busy and trying to make the most out of this especially hot summer we're having. So which category does the lovely Heather Locklear fall under? The engagement one!
Apparently at a recently charity event the Melrose Place star was wearing some bling on a very important finger and it did not go unnoticed. She may be turning 50 this September, but her love story has only just begun. The actress has been dating longtime boyfriend (now fiance) Jack Wagner since early 2007 and since he liked it so much, he followed Beyonce's advice and put a ring on it. Like many celebrities before her, this will not be Locklear's first trip down the aisle. She was previously married to rockers Tommy Lee (1986 to 1994) and Richie Sambora (1996 to 2006), whom she has a child with, Ava Elizabeth, 13. But hey, third time's the charm and according to a close friend of the couple, "She's in it for the long haul with Jack." Congratulations to the happy pair and I hope this one's for keeps!

Ava Sambora, the 13-year-old daughter of the Melrose Place beauty and Bon Jovi rocker Richie Sambora, will make her debut in the as-yet-untitled comedy, according to TheWrap.com.
Ava will play the best pal of the movie's central teen character, Sadie, played by Apatow's daughter Maude.
The film is a spin-off of smash 2007 hit Knocked Up, with Paul Rudd and Apatow's wife Leslie Mann reprising their roles as bickering husband and wife.
Megan Fox will also star in the movie.
