Jay Z's bid to buy Swedish music streaming company Aspiro has hit a roadblock after some shareholders expressed concern over the rapper's ability to properly finance the service's global expansion. Through his company Project Panther Bidco Limited, the hip-hop mogul made a $56 million (£35 million) offer to buy Aspiro, which runs hi-fi streaming services WiMP and TIDAL.
Aspiro's primary shareholder confirmed it had accepted the offer and the board had recommended it, however, on Wednesday (04Mar15), Swedish newspaper Dagens Industri reported that a number of minority shareholders have questioned the bid.
The minority shareholders are reportedly "displeased" with the original terms, and are "questioning Jay Z's ability to help finance Aspiro's expansion into international markets."
While a spokesperson for Aspiro said the company executives cannot make any public statements on the acquisition until the offer's acceptance period ends on 11 March (15), the chairman of the independent board committee involved in the deal, Fredrik Bjorland, tells Rolling Stone that he still believes the deal will go through.
He says, "We still believe the offer from Panther is attractive for both the company and its shareholders, and recommend the offer based on this. We have learned from the press that some of the organisations representing minority shareholders have recommended to not accept the offer. That recommendation to not accept the offer involves high risk."
When Jay Z's Panther company bosses first announced the bid, they noted their commitment to reaching international markets in a statement which read: "Panther believes that the recent developments in the entertainment industry, with the migration to media streaming, offers great potential for increased entertainment consumption and an opportunity for artists to further promote their music. Panther's strategic ambition revolves around global expansion and up-scaling of Aspiro’s platform, technology and services."
WiMP, a rival to music streaming service Spotify, boasts more than half a million subscribers in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and Poland. It streams more than 25 million songs and 75,000 music videos to over 512,000 paying subscribers.
Chris Brown's on/off girlfriend Karrueche Tran has wished the R&B hitmaker the "best of luck" after ending the couple's romance following reports suggesting he secretly fathered a baby girl last year (14). The Kiss Kiss hitmaker has yet to address rumours he is the dad of a nine-month-old daughter, who was born to a 31-year-old model friend named Nia, but Tran appears to have confirmed the news by tweeting goodbye to the singer on Wednesday (04Mar15).
In her farewell post, she writes, "Listen. One can only take so much. The best of luck to Chris and his family. No baby drama for me."
Nia and Brown have reportedly been friends for years and sources insist the pair is on good terms following the child's birth.
The baby's mother is also no stranger to Tran - editors at TMZ.com have since obtained a photo of Tran posing with her arm around Nia at a party in Las Vegas in May, 2013, months before the model fell pregnant.
Brown and Tran have been romantically involved since 2011 and have previously overcome a brief love triangle with the singer's ex Rihanna. They have also had to contend with his multiple legal woes, including probation violations which temporarily landed him behind bars last year (14).
Chris Brown's representatives have yet to confirm or deny reports suggesting the R&B star is the father of a nine-month-old baby girl. News of the child's parentage broke on TMZ.com late on Tuesday (03Mar15) when a source told the website the mother is a model named Nia.
Brown, who has been dating another model, Karrueche Tran, on and off since 2011, has known the baby's mother for many years and insiders insist the 25-year-old Kiss Kiss singer is on very good terms with the 31 year old.
Scottish singer Lulu was pressured to lose weight by David Bowie while they were dating in the 1970s. The Shout hitmaker began a brief romance with the rocker in 1974, when she was 26 years old, and she has now revealed he encouraged her to shift the pounds in a bid to improve her image.
She tells Britain's Event magazine, "I had a small window when I was involved with Bowie... We were so connected because of the music, it was the personal stuff that was... odd. Some of the conversations we had were insane.
"He told me I should lose weight. I was a bit embarrassed because I was always a little chubster (sic), but he was talking in terms of my image - that was the thing then, that heroin chic look. He didn't say it when I was in a compromising situation with him."
Singer/rapper Cee Lo Green will no longer have to attend any further court hearings relating to a 2013 drug charge after complying with all of his probation conditions. The Forget You hitmaker, real name Thomas DeCarlo Callaway, was sentenced to three years of probation and 45 days of community service last summer (14) after pleading no contest to a felony count of sharing ecstasy as part of a deal with prosecutors.
He had previously pleaded not guilty to allegations made by an ex-girlfriend, who accused the star of slipping her ecstasy before having sex with her following a dinner date in Los Angeles in 2012.
Green appeared for a progress hearing in Los Angeles on Monday (02Mar15), during which Judge David Herriford declared he had fulfilled the terms of his probation, which included attending 52 private alcohol counselling sessions, and would therefore not have to return to court for the case again.
Robin Williams' actress daughter Zelda refuses to dwell on the reasons for her father's tragic suicide last summer (14), because "there's no point questioning it". The Mrs. Doubtfire star had been battling depression, anxiety and the early stages of Parkinson's disease when he took his own life at his California home in August (14).
His daughter Zelda Williams has now opened up about the sad loss in her first sit-down interview on U.S. breakfast show Today, admitting she doesn't see any reason for scrutinising the circumstances surrounding his death.
She says, "There's no point questioning it and no point blaming anyone else for it, and there's no point blaming yourself or the world or whatever the case may be, because it happened, so you have to continue to... live and manage."
Zelda had a tattoo of a hummingbird inked onto her right hand in October (14) in honour of her father and the sight of the tribute helps to lift her spirits whenever she feels down.
She says, "I like hummingbirds. Hummingbirds are fun and flighty and strange. It's hard to keep them in one place and dad was a bit like that. Keeping a conversation in one moment was impossible with him. It was a bit like trying to put a bag around a storm and hoping that it wouldn't just blow away.
"Sometimes there are going to be days where things are really difficult. And having a reminder that is permanently there is nice."
However, Zelda reveals it will take quite some time before she can fully come to terms with her dad's death: "I think a lot of people feel his absence. But for me, especially, it's going to take a lot of work to allow myself to have the sort of fun, happy life that I had. But that's important. Anybody who has ever lost anyone works very hard to continue that memory in a positive way."
The 25 year old concludes, "The world keeps spinning, but that doesn't mean he was never on it."
Embattled rap mogul Damon Dash is reportedly facing a legal battle over outstanding child support with one of the mothers of his kids. Jay Z's former business partner blasted a lawyer named Donnell Suares on Instagram.com on Sunday (22Feb15), accusing the legal professional of taking "advantage of weak women".
Suares has since responded to Dash's social media attack, explaining to AllHipHop.com that the hip-hop industry veteran's outburst was in regards to a pending child support case.
He does not identify the name of his client, but Dash has a son named Damon Jr. with his ex-girlfriend Linda Williams and two kids, daughters Ava, 15, and six-year-old Tallulah, with his ex-wife, fashion designer Rachel Roy, who he divorced in 2009.
In a statement, Suares writes in part, "I represent the mother of Damon Dash's children. She retained me to represent her in seeking back child support from Mr. Dash. Mr. Dash described the mother of his children as 'weak'. My client is a strong and intelligent woman seeking to recover what she is rightfully and legally owed according to the law."
Further details about the case were unavailable as WENN went to press, but Williams accused Dash of falling behind on child support payments in 2011.
Dash has been struggling with financial issues in recent years. The former Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder was evicted from his New York home in 2013 after allegedly falling behind on his rent, while he was also previously slapped with a $2.8 million (£1.65 million) federal tax bill relating to earnings dating back to 2005.
He is currently suing director Lee Daniels for $25 million (£14.7 million) over allegations the filmmaker reneged on the terms of an investment deal for a string of film projects, including movies Precious, The Paper Boy and The Butler.
Troubled actress Amanda Bynes is to escape further punishment over her September (14) arrest for driving under the influence (DUI) after officials ruled she has not breached the terms of her probation.
Bynes was found to have a small amount of Adderall, a drug used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), in her system when her car was pulled over by cops last year (14), but officials in Los Angeles declined to prosecute her. The case was referred to the District Attorney to investigate whether the arrest constituted a violation of the three-year probation she is serving from a prior DUI charge stemming from an accident in 2012, but she is now in the clear.
District Attorney spokeswoman Jane Robison tells the New York Daily News, "Based on the police reports, we don't believe there was a violation."
The news comes as a judge in Ventura County, California granted Bynes' parents an extension of their conservatorship over their daughter on Tuesday (24Feb15). Rick and Lynn Bynes were granted control of her affairs last year (14) after the actress suffered a number of legal troubles and mental health issues, including a stint in a psychiatric hospital.
The conservatorship will remain in place until another review hearing on 23 June (15).
Bobbi Kristina Brown's boyfriend Nick Gordon has risked jeopardising his chances of visiting his hospitalised partner after publicising a series of nasty text messages exchanged with her father Bobby Brown, in which he accuses him of bad parenting. The New Edition star's daughter with Whitney Houston remains in a medically-induced coma in an Atlanta, Georgia hospital after she was found unresponsive in a bathtub at the Roswell home she shares with Gordon in January (15).
Gordon claims he has been banned from seeing his girlfriend by the Brown family, but the singer's attorney insists the 22 year old has been invited to visit, as long as he agrees to "meet the terms" outlined by her concerned relatives.
Now Gordon has taken to Twitter.com to blast Bobby Brown by revealing a screenshot of a recent text exchange, in which he suggested Brown is in no position to decide what's best for Bobbi Kristina because he barely knows her.
The messages in the snap Gordon shared online on Monday (23Feb15) read: "Man to man I love your daughter... I don't know why you won't let me see her... Your daughter is going to hate you when she wakes up. It's not like you know her anyways (sic). What's her favorite color? What's her favorite smell, movies, food. You don't know."
The post has since been deleted from Gordon's Twitter page, but he continued ranting about the situation online, insisting Bobbi Kristina would want him by her bedside and claiming he is willing to agree to Brown's demands if he can see his girlfriend every day.
He writes, "I can't wait till she wakes up and dismiss (sic) all of the negative thoughts. There is a reason why her mom made me promise to look after her. If Bobby can guarantee me that I can see her 24/7 I'll meet the conditions".
He also revealed his "only regret" was not finding Bobbi Kristina sooner so he could try to resuscitate her.
He then continued to slam her relatives, claiming they have been sending him "death threats" to scare him away in a bid to lay claim to Houston's fortune, tweeting, "I have to remain strong for me and @REALbkBrown... Bobby seen his daughter 4 times in the last 5 yrs (years) Now him and his family want Whitneys $$$ (money) which belongs to Krissi or Cissy (Houston, Whitney's mother) (sic)."
And Gordon has dismissed rumours alleging he has refused to co-operate with police detectives, who have launched a criminal investigation into his girlfriend's near-drowning incident, adding, "I've talked to the cops (with) no lawyer. If Roswell Detectives know how to do there (sic) job everything is cool."
Rockers Royal Blood turned down the chance to appear on the 2014 Band Aid 30 charity single after Bono decided to drop his iconic line from Do They Know It's Christmas? The British duo was in talks to feature on Bob Geldof's fundraising record, which raised money to tackle the Ebola crisis, and bandmember Ben Thatcher decided he would only take part if he could sing Bono's lyric, "Well, tonight thank God it's them instead of you".
However, they dropped out after Bono decided to change the line to "Well tonight we're reaching out and touching you".
Thatcher tells Britain's Telegraph magazine, "We were actually talking (to Bono) about the Band Aid single. It was just about to happen... Ed Sheeran and all the other pop stars were also there, and everybody was standing around talking about whether or not they were going to do it. I said to Bono I would only do it if I could sing his famous line with him. And then he said, 'Funnily enough, I'm actually changing my line.' So I said, 'Well, I'm not doing it then.'"
Band mate Mike Kerr jokingly adds, "Those were our terms. We'd only do it if Ben could dress up as Bono."
Other stars featured on the charity single, which topped U.K. charts in November (14), included One Direction, Sam Smith, Sinead O' Connor and Rita Ora.
