British pop star Rochelle Humes is battling a severe stomach bug and she is terrified her baby daughter will catch it. The Saturdays singer is bedridden with norovirus, which causes stomach cramps and vomiting, and she has been ordered to have no contact with six-month-old Alaia-Mai for fear of passing it on.
In a series of posts on Twitter.com on Sunday (24Nov13) Humes, who is married to JLS singer Marvin Humes, writes, "Can babies catch norovirus? This isn't nice, I've never felt so bad! She's not showing any signs, she seems fine. It's just hard not to have contact with her... What a nightmare... I'm gonna try and sleep it off!... Night all."
What’s in a name? Everything if you’re a rock star. Majority of people are born with boring, everyday names - unless, of course, you’re born to a 20th century celebrity, in which case your name is a fruit, Disney character, or another entry from the MeSoUnique dictionary. In order to be larger-than-life celebrities, these rockers opted for a larger-than-life name.
Here’s a rundown of rockers with some of the best names that their mamas don't call them by.
Marilyn Manson (Brian Hugh Warner) The artist formerly known as Brian Hugh Warner came up with his stage name by combing the names of 2 infamous icons from the 1960s: Marilyn Monroe and Charles Manson. He chose the 2 celebs because he wanted to have the “fakest stage name of all” to reflect the phoniness of show business. Well played, Brian.
Axl Rose (William Bruce Rose, Jr.) Before his name was synonymous with rock star douchebaggery, Axl Rose was called William Bruce Rose, Jr. The name we’ve all come to love and loathe him by came from the name of one of the first bands he was in when he first moved to Los Angeles: AXL. Of course, there is that whole anagram story…
Elvis Costello (Declan Patrick MacManus) Declan MacManus may sound like the name of a capo from the Westies, but it’s actually the birth name of post-punk rock god Elvis Costello. Costello took his name from his musician father’s stage name (Day Costello) and Elvis Presley.
Cat Power (Charlyn Marie Marshall) Cat Power sounds like the slogan of a felinist wanting to empower kitties everywhere, but really the indie rocker’s stage name came from a guy wearing a Caterpillar trucker cap. Power was part of a band that needed a name for their first show, and after seeing a man in a “Cat Diesel Power” hat, she knew she found the name. Though she ended up moving to New York a couple years after, the name stuck and she’s been Cat Power ever since.
Slash (Saul Hudson) Back in the 70s, when someone said “Better call Saul,” they were talking about Saul Hudson. Slash got his nickname from family friend and actor Seymour Cassel, who started calling him the name due to the fact that he was always in a hurry and never in one place for a long period of time.
Iggy Pop (James Newell Osterberg) Iggy Pop has long been called the Godfather of Punk, but his real name sounds like the name of an 80-year-old Russian history professor. After serving as the drummer for The Iguanas, Mr. Osterberg officially became Iggy. The “Pop” came after a friend of the Stooges, Jimmy Pop, lost all his hair, including his eyebrows, prompting Iggy to shave off his eyebrows in tribute and consequently being dubbed Iggy Pop.
Joe Strummer (John Graham Mellor) John Graham Mellor sure doesn’t sound like the name of the frontman of one of the original punk bands, so it’s no surprise that he changed his name. Before he was Joe Strummer, though, he went by Woody Mellor, in honor of folk legend Woody Guthrie. He used this moniker during his time with the 101’ers and a couple years before the Clash was born, changed his name to Joe Strummer. The “Joe” was to signify that he was nothing special, just a “regular joe,” and the “Strummer” pertained to his rather lackluster rhythm guitar skills.
The Cramps: Lux Interior (Erick Lee Purkhiser) & Poison Ivy (Kristy Marlana Wallace) “Hi, my name is Lux Interior and this is my wife, Poison Ivy.” Few people get to drop opening lines like that, but the 2 permanent members of psychobilly pioneers the Cramps were an exception. Interior not surprisingly took his name from an old car commercial, while Ivy (who also went by Ivy Rorschach) stated the name had come to her in a dream.
Brody Dalle (Bree Joanna Alice Robinson) With a name like Bree Joanna Alice Robinson, you’re either going to become a Type A debutante who looks up to Paris Hilton, or you’re going to drop every part of your name and become one of the most hardcore lead singers of a punk rock band. Luckily for the world, Bree Robinson opted for the latter and changed her name to Brody. Before she adopted her last name from crazy/badass French actress Beatrice Dalle, however, she was known as Brody Armstrong (aka Tim Armstrong’s wife). A Rolling Stone tongue-makeout session with Josh Homme later, Brody Armstrong officially became Brody Dalle.
Sid Vicious (John Simon Ritchie) Born John Simon Ritchie, Sid Vicious went on to personify the defining aspects of punk rock – rebellion, attitude, and safety pins. The story of the Sex Pistols is one of abrupt fame coupled with an even speedier decline, and Vicious’ scandalous life and tumultuous relationship with girlfriend Nancy Spungen made for a punk rock fairytale, where there’s no such thing as a happy ending. The best part of all this, though, is that the dude was named after a hamster. After being bit by Johnny Rotten’s fuzzy, lovable hamster Sid, the then-John Ritchie said, “Sid is really vicious!,” and Rotten decided that a star was born.

Rock matriarch Sharon Osbourne has heaped praise on kind-hearted Sir Elton John for hosting his annual AIDS charity gala at his home in England last month (Jun13) even though he was terribly ill and in tremendous pain. The Rocket Man hitmaker was convinced he was suffering from a bad bout of food poisoning when he was struck down with crippling stomach cramps, but he was recently diagnosed with a case of appendicitis after seeking treatment when the pain became too much to bear.
His pal Osbourne reveals the 66 year old had been silently suffering with the condition for weeks, but he refused to cancel his annual White Tie and Tiara Summer Ball on 27 June (13), and carried on with the show in between vomiting bouts.
While co-hosting her U.S. chat show The Talk on Wednesday (10Jul13), she said, "All I have to say is that he was sick a couple of weeks ago at his White Tie and Tiara Ball. This is where he gains millions for his AIDS charity, and he went through the evening, he went to every table, he welcomed everybody and in between he was going outside, throwing up, coming back in... He just will not give up... He thinks of everybody else but himself!"
The TV personality also gave viewers an update on the singer's health, insisting he is already starting to show signs of improvement: "He's doing really well. He's at his home in Windsor and he's recuperating."
Sir Elton John risked death by playing through the pain at 10 shows while unknowingly battling appendicitis. The Rocket Man hitmaker was convinced he was suffering from a bad bout of food poisoning when he was struck down with crippling stomach cramps, but he fought through to play a number of concerts.
However, the singer finally decided to seek medical attention when the pain became too much to bear and he walked off the stage in the middle of a show in Halle, Germany on Friday (05Jul13).
The star was diagnosed with appendicitis, and he tells Britain's The Sun, "I'm lucky to be alive. I was a ticking time bomb. I guess I could have died at any time. I feel so lucky and so grateful to be alive. I played nine gigs and the White Tie and Tiara Summer Ball in agony."
The 66 year old is now taking a course of antibiotics and will undergo an operation in the coming weeks.

Actress Jane Lynch is struggling with leg cramps "all night long" as she performs in new Broadway musical Annie. The Glee star has been playing mean orphanage matron Miss Hannigan in the hit New York revival since May (13), and she is really suffering for her art onstage.
She tells U.S. breakfast show Today, "I do trip up the stairs at one point and I really do stub my toe because I'm method! I have cramps in my legs all night long from doing stuff like that."
Lynch will have to hobble on with the muscle cramps for another six weeks - her Broadway run is expected to run until 14 July (13).
British singer Kate Nash cancelled an appearance at a U.K. music festival over the weekend (01-02Jun13) after falling sick with strep throat. The Foundations hitmaker was due to sing at the Wychwood Festival in Cheltenham, England on Saturday (01Jun13), but she was taken ill on the day before the show and cancelled her set just hours before she was due on stage.
Nash insists she was ordered to axe the performance following an emergency appointment with her doctor.
In a post on her blog, she writes, "I am so so sorry to be cancelling this show. I hate doing this & I hate letting you guys down. I never ever do it, always plough through if I'm feeling rough but my body has just broken down or something since getting off this 3 month tour and I haven't been this sick in years."
Nash goes on to reveal she is suffering from strep throat, a contagious throat infection, and fears the rest of her summer (13) shows may be in doubt.
She adds, "Turns out I've got strep (throat) and have been told it could jeopardise my entire summer. Singing this show & damaging it even more & I can't risk that (sic). I need to give my body the rest it is demanding. It takes a lot to shut me down & make me give in... so trust me when I say it's bad. I have chills, leg cramps, my head wants to explode, my ears are attacking me & my throat is unbearable...
"I've got antibiotics and am just lying here in bed all day. Hopefully I should be up and about in a few days. Fingers crossed these antibiotics kick in fast."
Nash is due to perform at Britain's legendary Glastonbury festival later this month (Jun13) as well as the Reading and Leeds festivals in August (13). She is next due on stage at the Rock Im Park Festival in Nuremberg, Germany on 7 June (13).
Lifestyle guru Martha Stewart fell sick with a nasty bout of salmonella poisoning last month (Nov12) after handling too many Thanksgiving turkeys.
The cookery expert was forced to cancel a series of public appearances, including a job hosting a tribute gala for Neil Sedaka in Manhattan, after contracting the nasty food-borne bug, which causes nausea, vomiting, cramps and diarrhoea.
Stewart is convinced she came down with the illness after handling raw turkey during a number of TV cookery appearances around the American holiday (22Nov12).
She tells New York Post gossip column Page Six, "I never get sick, but I came down with salmonella. I think I caught it because I was handling so many turkeys around Thanksgiving. I was on the Today show, I did a number of other (Thanksgiving) appearances. It really hit me hard and I was in bed for days. It was terrible. I lost some weight, though."

The actor, who played a lifeguard on popular TV series Baywatch, was snorkelling with Welsh girlfriend Hayley Roberts in the Riviera Maya when she heard the desperate calls from a man who was suffering from cramps.
The 32-year-old blonde, who has been dating Hasselhoff since last year (11), swam to his rescue and pulled him to shore, leaving her Hollywood star boyfriend impressed.
Roberts tells the BBC, "I was busy chasing a turtle when I heard from far away, 'Help! Help!' I looked up and saw a man in distress. I immediately started to swim towards him out of instinct and shouted to David, who wasn't too far away, 'David, the man needs help!'
"Luckily, as I arrived to him another man was already there. The other man and I pulled him in together to where he could stand.
"I said to David, 'I made a rescue.' He said, 'Good job - you could have been on Baywatch.'"
