The Guardian wants more than anything to be a summer blockbuster. But as a fall movie in earnest--clocking in at well over two hours, no less--the movie is stripped bare and revealed as a middling action flick without much action.

Hollywoodland is a well-acted, moody and sumptuously evocative recreation of LA’s seemingly glamorous underbelly circa the 1950s but tries entirely too hard to be Chinatown.

Even though it may lack a human touch here and there, The Polar Express is still a brilliant effort in CGI-animation and will certainly evoke the Christmas spirit in us all.

Like the original, Ocean's Eleven is a lark, but unlike the 1960 version, it's no throwaway; with Steven Soderbergh directing, the film is stylish and smart, even if it lacks a little soul

Shallow Hal is not the knee-slapper audiences have come to expect from the Farrelly brothers, but has some clever lines and a sweet, albeit clichéd, moral.
