Rockers Machine Head have postponed their North American tour to finish their new record. The metal band was due to hit the road this autumn (14), but announced on Wednesday (17Sep14) that they have decided to hold off on live gigs to perfect their album, Bloodstone & Diamonds.
The rockers released a statement which read, "It is with great disappointment that MACHINE HEAD must announce the postponement of our North American tour this fall.
"Our new album, Bloodstone & Diamonds, has taken longer to complete than expected and we had to make the difficult choice to either delay the album, let it go out as incomplete, or cancel the tour in order to properly finish and promote the album in the caliber it needs to be done. We decided postponing the tour was the best decision for the record.
"We feel this record is a milestone, we have something truly special here, but getting there has been a challenge. Our vocalist/guitarist Robb Flynn just returned from a press tour where he was playing rough mixes and incomplete versions of songs for the press just to try and keep everything on time for our November release date."
The postponed dates will be rescheduled for the beginning of next year (15), but the band's European tour, slated to begin in November (15), will go on as scheduled.
Bloodstone & Diamonds is set for a release on 10 November (14).
Ben Affleck's smile helped land him the lead in director David Fincher's much-anticipated thriller Gone Girl - because it was exactly what he wanted from a suspected killer. Fincher admits he spent hours looking at shots of Affleck smiling online, convinced that his Nick Dunne character would look just like the Oscar winner.
In the filmmaker's adaptation of Gillian Flynn's novel, Dunne is suspected of murdering his wife after she is reported missing.
Fincher tells Playboy, "You cast movies based on critical scenes. In Gone Girl there’s a smile the guy has to give when the local press asks him to stand next to a poster of his missing wife.
"I flipped through Google Images and found about 50 shots of Affleck giving that kind of smile in public situations. You look at them and know he’s trying to make people comfortable in the moment, but by doing that he’s making himself vulnerable to people having other perceptions about him."
The stars of The Hunger Games movie franchise are dictating hairstyle trends among teens, according to actress Natalie Dormer. The Game of Thrones star, who will play Cressida in the final two Hunger Games films, had to shave half her head for the role to perfect a punky look and she admits she has spotted young fans with the same 'do'.
She explains, "I was actually quite surprised at Comic-Con, there's a lot of lopsidedness going on. Girls are doing the lopsided thing, very tight... down one side so it almost looks like they're shaved. That seems to be en vogue and I seem to be ahead of the curve.
"I don't know if the Katniss Everdeen (character) thing is catching on as well, but a lot of girls are wearing plaits to one side."
Patrick Duffy's murdered parents had a cameo in the reboot of his TV hit Dallas after the actor dug out a box of family photos dating back to the 1920s to complete a crucial prop. Crewmember Andrea Cantrell was tasked with creating a Ewing family photo album when the sex-and-scandal drama returned to screens after a 21-year absence in 2012.
She struggled to find appropriate pictures as many of the new cast members could only provide recent snaps, and her efforts were further hampered because the image of two original Dallas stars - late actors Jim Davis and Barbara Bel Geddes - are controlled by the handlers of their estate.
However, just when Cantrell thought her task was hopeless, veteran star Duffy provided a cache of old family photos, and his own parents looked so convincing as Ewings that the images were placed in the photobook and appeared onscreen in the show.
In a blog post for UltimateDallas.com, Cantrell writes, "This photo album was a very tough prop to fabricate because the images that I had of our current cast members were too recent and few to fill up several pages.
"I really wanted to bring back the nostalgia of the original series by using old photos but unfortunately I was unable to use Barbara Bel Geddes or Jim Davis' photos because their estate owns the rights to their images... I was running out of time...
"Then Patrick Duffy became my hero. He asked his wife to send a box of pictures. The pictures I received from Patrick were perfect! They were black and white photos from the 1920s through the 1980s of Patrick's parents and him as a baby through teenager to young man. Patrick's mother had a resemblance to (Ewing matriarch) Miss Ellie which made a photo of her holding baby Patrick exactly what we needed. So I started the process of getting clearance, I asked Patrick if he could get permission for the use. He told me that his parents were no longer alive and he would sign consent for use. I was elated!"
Duffy's parents Terence and Marie were shot dead during a robbery at the bar they owned in Montana in 1986, and Cantrell insists she became emotional when she heard the tragic tale, adding, "I had at least 150 original photos on my desk of Marie and Terrence (sic). I had all of Patrick's memories in my hands and I was brought to tears by this act of generosity and trust. This turned out to be the most important prop of my career."
R&B singer Toni Braxton is hoping for a love connection after playing a celebrity dating game on TV. The Unbreak My Heart hitmaker has been single for nearly five years and she turned to friend Queen Latifah for assistance with her romantic life.
The rapper-turned-TV host brought the singer on her U.S. talk show on Tuesday (16Sep14) and played a version of popular game show The Dating Game.
Braxton asked three eligible bachelors questions about their idea of the perfect first date and their favourite cuisine, but wasn't allowed to see them until the end of the game.
The singer decided to go with a stand-up comedian named John, and they were treated to a romantic dinner at Hollywood hotspot Mr. Chow in Beverly Hills.
Braxton has been separated from estranged husband Keri Lewis, a former member of R&B band Mint Condition, since 2009.
Outkast star Andre Benjamin had to perfect playing the guitar left-handed in just days after learning it would be too expensive to let camera trickery make him look like Jimi Hendrix on film. The singer, aka Andre 3000, felt sure he'd perfected Hendrix's nuances and language for new biopic All Is By My Side until producers told him he'd have to learn to play the guitar just like the late rock great.
He says, "It’s almost the same as walking backwards!"
Benjamin tells ShortList.com the filmmakers were convinced they could just film him playing right-handed and flip the image to match Hendrix’s actual playing style.
He adds, "That meant we were going to have to change everything in the scene, which was really expensive. We got this information just a couple of days before I was supposed to go and shoot it. I was kind of bummed about it.
"I didn’t know if I could pull it off. At one point during the meeting, I was not going to do it. I was going to say, 'The movie’s not gonna work, because I don’t want to f**k Hendrix up and make him look terrible'. I hadn’t practised the left-hand thing once."
But hard work and dedication paid off and Benjamin is now an ambidextrous musician: "I just had to dive in with the few days I had before shooting. I think we had a week or two. I had to just practice every day left handed, until I could get it to a place where I felt comfortable enough to do it."
Queen are set to become the latest rockers to get fans drunk after announcing plans to release a new vodka. The Queen-branded Killer Queen tipple will mark the 40th anniversary of the band's 1974 hit single of the same name.
Guitarist Brian May recently visited the Stoli vodka production plant in Riga, Latvia, where the new drink was created, to oversee work on the beverage and called the place "the Willy Wonka chocolate factory for adults".
May admits the vodka is a fitting tribute to the band's late frontman Freddie Mercury, adding, "Freddie loved vodka and used to carry a dry ice cooler full of vodka with him on tour. Killer Queen Vodka is the perfect tribute."
Killer Queen, which is also the name of Katy Perry's latest perfume, is "seven times distilled using an ancient original vodka filtration process of quartz sand and birch charcoal with a unique filtration process at the final stage."
The Stoli limited edition will be available in the U.K. from 17 September (14).

Reality TV star-turned-fashion designer and author Lauren Conrad has wed her lawyer boyfriend William Tell in Santa Ynez, California.
The couple exchanged vows during an intimate ceremony on Saturday (13Sep14), surrounded by family and close friends. Conrad's nine bridesmaids, including Laguna Beach and The Hills co-star Lo Bosworth, wore dresses from the bride's Paper Crown line.
A statement from the newlyweds reads: "What a perfect way to start our lives together; surrounded by the people we love most."
Conrad and Tell have been dating since February, 2012.
Rocker SLASH and Kiss star Paul Stanley refused to speak to each other for years after the then-Guns N' Roses star took aim at the singer's sound mixing skills in an interview. The guitarist reveals he and Stanley fell out over remarks he made following a disastrous Guns N' Roses gig, at which the KISS star was helping to perfect the sound.
Confirming Stanley's story in his autobiography Face The Music: A Life Exposed, Slash recalls the rock veteran had offered to help him land a guitar deal, but their friendship fell flat when the G N' R star accused his hero of meddling with the band's sound at a Los Angeles club gig.
In his book, Stanley recalls Slash coming back to him about the guitar deal weeks later: "(I said), 'You want me to help you get guitars after you went around saying all that s**t about me behind my back? One thing you're going to have to learn is not to air your dirty laundry in public. Nice knowing you, go f**k yourself'."
Slash tells Hard Rock Magazine, "We didn't speak for years after that. It was only until roughly 2006 that we got reacquainted when I was doing the Kiss Rock Honours for VH1 and we sort of let bygones be bygones. We're more or less cool now."
