Taylor Swift was the golden girl at the 2013 American Music Awards on Sunday (24Nov13) as she took home four top honours, including Artist of the Year. The I Knew You Were Trouble hitmaker, who wowed in a shimmering gold Julien Macdonald mini dress, earned Favorite Female Artist accolades in both the Pop/Rock and Country categories, while the blonde beauty also scored best album for Red in the latter genre.
Justin Timberlake enjoyed a stellar night too, claiming a trio of trophies, while British boyband One Direction celebrated their first ever AMAs for Favorite Band, Duo or Group - Pop/Rock and Favorite Album - Pop/Rock for their second release Take Me Home.
Rihanna was feted with the inaugural Icon Award in recognition of her massive global success and she received a standing ovation from the celebrity-packed audience at the Nokia Theater L.A. Live in Los Angeles.
Her mentor and Roc Nation label boss Jay Z paid tribute to his charge in a pre-taped video message, while Rihanna's mother, Monica Fenty, was on hand to play the proud parent as she presented the honour.
In her acceptance speech, Rihanna recalled terrorising her mum with her "annoying little man voice" as a child, before going on to express her gratitude to her devotees and her team, saying, "My fans, you have no idea. You keep me driven, you keep this thing special and right now I can't believe that at 25 years old I'm holding an Icon award, that is weird to even say out loud...
"I can't thank everybody but if you know me, you know that I love you and that I thank you and that I'm grateful. You all play such an important part and I'm only as good as my team so I love you guys so much, thank you."
Katy Perry kicked off the event by performing her new single Unconditionally dressed as a geisha in a set made to look like a Japanese cherry blossom garden, while One Direction, Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Arianna Grande and the surviving members of TLC also hit the stage, as did show host Pitbull, who teamed up with Timber collaborator Ke$ha.
Other performance highlights came from Jennifer Lopez, who dazzled in a special tribute to late Latin music icon Celia Cruz; Lady Gaga, who played a receptionist as she seduced R. Kelly as president for Do What U Want, and birthday girl Miley Cyrus, who donned a pink leotard adored with cats to close the show with a powerful and emotional rendition of Wrecking Ball.

Britney Spears is calling on her millions of fans to help celebrate her upcoming birthday by making a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The Toxic hitmaker will turn 32 on 2 December (13) and in lieu of gifts, she has asked devotees to consider throwing their support behind the top charity, which benefits kids with cancer and other diseases.
Expressing her birthday wish in an open letter online, she writes, "Dear Fans, It's that time of year again when we pause to reflect upon what we're thankful for. I'm thankful to have the most amazing fans in the world who have been there for me through everything...!
"This year, I'm doing something different for my birthday. I'm dedicating it to the kids of St. Jude. Help me out by not buying me a gift this year. Buy them a gift instead - the gift of another birthday.
"Why St. Jude? Since opening in 1962, treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to 80 percent. Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing and food - because all a family should worry about is helping their child live. That's right: the best care in the world, for free, because of people like us. Now that's something worth celebrating.
"Let's get this party started. Love always, Britney".
The pop superstar's birthday will kick off a busy month - her new album, Britney Jean, will hit retailers next week (begs02Dec13), while her new Las Vegas residency, Britney: Piece of Me, will launch at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on 27 December (13), just in time for New Year's.
The ex-girlfriend of rocker Shifty Shellshock has asked a Los Angeles judge to strip the Crazy Town frontman of custody rights amid allegations of his continued drug use. The singer, real name Seth Binzer, has been battling substance abuse issues for the past few years and attempted to kick his habit during appearances on U.S. reality TV show Celebrity Rehab, while he also checked into a treatment facility last year (12) following a drug arrest in February, 2012.
However, Jasmine Lennard claims he has yet to beat his demons and alleges he once left a crack pipe in their young son's bedroom.
She is seeking full custody of the boy and wants to ban Binzer from visiting, insisting he has not spent time with their kid over the past two years.
Lennard is also demanding the embattled star pay her child support, although she admits Binzer has not been legally established as the boy's father, despite her attempts to do so last year (12), reports TMZ.com. She alleges the singer denied fathering the baby in a bid to escape child support bills, but claimed the tot as his own while on Celebrity Rehab.
Marc Anthony's ex-wife Dayanara Torres is demanding the Latin superstar increase his monthly child support payments from $13,000 (£8,670) to $112,000 (£74,670), according to a U.S. report. The former Miss Universe claims Anthony's salary has soared since they settled their 2004 divorce and custody over their two sons, Cristian, 12, and Ryan, 10, and she is preparing to fight for more money in court this week (begs25Nov13).
However, the salsa singer's lawyer, Daniel Jaffe, insists his client has paid more than his fair share to ensure the boys are well taken care of, in addition to $3,500 (£2,330) in spousal support.
Jaffe tells the New York Post, "Marc has paid every penny, well over $13,000 a month. (He) has paid for all of the kids' schooling, band lessons, camps, and all medical and dental costs. Virtually everything."
Anthony, who makes millions from touring, his clothing line with U.S. department store Kohl's, and his stake in the Miami Dolphins American football franchise, is planning to fight Torres' request.
The singer wed Jennifer Lopez just a week after his four-year union to second wife Torres was officially declared over, but Anthony's third marriage fell apart in 2012. He has since been romantically linked to Chloe Green, the daughter of Topshop founder Sir Philip Green.
British actor Daniel Radcliffe is convinced he suffers from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The Harry Potter star suspects his symptoms went unnoticed as the condition wasn't as well known when he was a child.
He tells Britain's The Guardian, "I think I am quite hyper. I think if I'd been born a few years later, I might have been diagnosed with ADHD, but I missed the boat for all those diagnoses..."
Radcliffe also admits he is glad he was taken out of school after landing the lead role in the wizard movies, as he fears he would have struggled in an academic environment.
He adds, "I was a very disorganised, talkative boy. And there are some people who just don't do well at school. I am not somebody who will learn best when you tell me to sit down and be quiet and sit still. I learn by talking back and engaging in conversation and walking around."
"At the moment he's quite skinny and vulnerable, so I like to take advantage of that for a second. I feel like the older brother. I saw him a couple of weeks ago and this is the skinniest I've ever seen him! It's like, 'I feel somewhat responsible for you 'cause you're just like a child!'" Actor Liam Hemsworth admits he likes to beat up his brother, fellow screen star Chris, as he no longer has the muscles he had when he filmed superhero franchise Thor. Chris Hemsworth is currently starving himself for a new role in a film about the true events that inspired author Herman Melville to write Moby Dick.
Former child star Abigail Breslin has gone topless for a risque new shoot with celebrity photographer Tyler Shields. The Little Miss Sunshine actress, 17, reteamed with the director of her upcoming thriller Final Girl for the racy images, in which she is featured staring into the camera as she sucks on a lollipop and clutches a white sheet against her bare chest to preserve her modesty.
Another picture shows Breslin, with heavy black eyeliner, posing in a bubble bath, as she leans forward to submerge her breasts in the water.
Shields tells Us Weekly magazine, "Abigail wanted to do something new, something iconic. People see her as innocent, but everyone grows up. After we made Final Girl together, we had a great relationship and it was easy to do this. She trusts me."
Breslin isn't the first star to pose for one of Shields' controversial shoots - Mischa Barton recently turned heads in a provocative photo spread, in which the former The O.C. star appears to attempt suicide and rolls around a kitchen floor surrounded by what looks like cocaine. His ex-girlfriend Francesca Eastwood and Lindsay Lohan have also appeared in the snapper's controversial shots.
The daughter of Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick has been named Miss Golden Globe 2014 ahead of the upcoming Hollywood prizegiving. Sosie Bacon, who has followed her famous parents into acting, will assist presenters and help hand out trophies at the 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards ceremony on 12 January (14).
During the announcement on Wednesday (20Nov13), the 21 year old said, "I am so grateful to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for naming me this year's Miss Golden Globe. As a young actress who is just beginning my career, it is truly an honor to be a part of such a special night in film and television."
The honour is bestowed by members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the organisation behind the Golden Globes, and the role is traditionally handed to the child of a celebrity.
Previous Miss Golden Globes include Bruce Willis' daughter Rumer, Kevin Costner's daughter Lily, and Francesca Eastwood, the daughter of Clint Eastwood and actress Frances Fisher.
Actress Vanessa Hudgens popped the blood vessels in her face while filming a birthing scene for her new film, Gimme Shelter. The Spring Breakers star plays a homeless, teenage mum in the movie and admits the content was physically and emotionally difficult to film - especially one scene, in which her character delivers a child.
She tells Eonline.com, "Every single day was definitely a challenge but one I embraced with open arms. It was just so thrilling to be able to push myself every day and see how far I could take it.
"Probably the most physical and emotionally draining scene was my birthing scene. I've never shot a birthing scene and I ended up popping blood vessels in my face."
Despite the ordeal, Hudgens calls the experience "surreal" and explains she felt a deep connection to the role and her onscreen baby.
She says, "It's an odd (thing), it really is. I mean, I totally had a connection with my baby - my movie baby - and I just had so much love for her, but afterwards they call 'cut' and take the baby away and I'm just left there hanging."
"People always say to me, 'Do you feel like you missed out on a childhood? Do you feel like you had your childhood taken away?' And I'm like: 'No, what a ridiculous (question)... kids who are abused have their childhoods taken away from them'." Former child star Daniel Radcliffe is baffled by questions about his time growing up while filming the Harry Potter series.
