Luckily, we have some seriously stylish stars to turn to for inspiration – we've gone and cherry-picked some of our very favorite cocktail dresses right off the red carpet. There's a little something for everybody: if you're of the quirky-cute persuasion, you'll love Zooey Deschanel's rose-emblazoned black and white strapless number, and those who lean a little more sophisticated are sure to appreciate ultra-polished Allison Williams' classic (and class-y) style. The Strokes star Albert Hammond, Jr. celebrated Christmas as a married man after tying the knot with his girlfriend. The rocker was first linked to New York restaurant hostess Justyna Sroka over the summer (13) and they decided to make their relationship official by exchanging vows on Monday (23Dec13).
Hammond, Jr. broke the news to fans by sharing a photo of the casually-dressed newlyweds on his Twitter.com page, alongside the caption, "Mr. & Mrs. Hammond, jr. Yeah...she kept the JR YES!! Haha she's JHJ I'm AHJ".
No further details about the low-key ceremony were released, but the guitarist, who recently went public with his drug addiction hell, also revealed that Sroka had been the inspiration behind his recent single, St. Justice.
Hammond, Jr. previously dated British model Agyness Deyn and TV presenter Alexa Chung, while Sroka has also been linked to actor/rocker Jared Leto.
British rapper Blood Orange wants to donate proceeds from a fan fundraiser, designed to help him back on his feet after an apartment fire, to charity because he feels "extremely uncomfortable" accepting the money. The artist, who produces music under his real name, Devonte 'Dev' Hynes, suffered a pre-Christmas tragedy on Tuesday (17Dec13) when a blaze at his New York home killed his puppy and destroyed all of his belongings.
His girlfriend's mother, Robin Urbani, subsequently created a page on fundraising website GoFundMe.com asking fans to make donations to aid the musician. The initial goal of $5,000 (£3,330) was reached within two hours and the figure continued to rise, thanks to celebrity support from the likes of British singer Lily Allen and TV presenter Alexa Chung.
The charity drive has since topped $24,000 (£16,000), but Hynes reveals he is reluctant to take the cash for himself.
Taking to his Tumblr.com page on Thursday (19Dec13), he writes, "If I am honest, the fundraiser makes me feel extremely uncomfortable. This isn't me saying I don't need the money, to reiterate, I have lost everything.
"This isn't me being unappreciative... It's overwhelming in the most extremely nicest way that people would care about this but as I stated before, so many people have nothing they can do to rebuild their life from scratch."
Instead, Hynes wants to hand over a chunk of the money to goodwill causes: "I want to give all the money to charity, 3 charities to be precise which I will explain further at a future point, that's how I feel. I'm being spoken to by people who are close and understand my situation and are trying to advise me. As I probably am still in shock, and may not have a choice but to accept some of the money, and then think about charities, I don't know... I don't know where my head is at right now..."
An online fundraising campaign to help musician Blood Orange recover following a fire at his New York apartment has raised more than $17,000 (£11,333) in less than 24 hours. The British star, real name Devonte 'Dev' Hynes, took to Twitter.com on Tuesday (17Dec13) to reveal he had lost everything in a blaze at his home, including music he was working on, sentimental items and his puppy.
Robin Urbani, the mother of Hynes' girlfriend Samantha, subsequently created a page on fundraising website GoFundMe.com asking fans to make donations to help the musician get back on his feet.
The initial goal of $5,000 (£3,333) was reached within two hours and the total raised is now more than triple the original target, thanks to celebrity support from the likes of British singer Lily Allen and TV presenter Alexa Chung.
Urbani took to the fundraising website to thank donors, writing, "I am overwhelmed by all the love and support being offered to both Dev and Samantha!... Thank you so much everyone!! I hope more people will continue to share this and make even small donations.. as I am sure the goal I set is only a small fraction of the value of everything that has been lost."
The total had reached more than $17,560 (£11,707) as WENN went to press.
Harry Styles, Sir Tom Jones, Sienna Miller, Kate Moss and Rita Ora were among the stars who turned out for a glitzy party in London on Monday night (02Dec13) to celebrate Playboy's 60th anniversary. Hugh Hefner's saucy publication marks six decades in print this year (13) and British supermodel Kate Moss was chosen to don the iconic bunny outfit to grace the cover of the 60th anniversary December issue.
The publication's milestone was marked with a lavish bash at the Playboy Club in London on Monday, hosted by Moss and designer Marc Jacobs, and the party attracted big name stars including Sir Tom Jones, One Direction heartthrob Styles, and actress Miller.
Model Daisy Lowe was also in attendance, along with pop singers Rita Ora and Matt Goss and TV presenter Alexa Chung, rocker Noel Gallagher, model/actress Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Hayley Atwell and Bob Geldof.
It was a busy night for both Styles and Moss, as they had both picked up prizes at the British Fashion Awards in the U.K. capital earlier in the evening.
One Direction heartthrob Harry Styles was honoured with the 2013 British Style Award in London on Monday night (02Dec13). The 19-year-old singer was praised for his excellent fashion sense during the British Fashion Awards.
Styles nabbed the accolade from three-time winner, model and TV personality Alexa Chung, who presented him with the award, and he gave a very brief speech thanking all those who voted for him.
He saw off tough competition from David Beckham, Kate Moss, the Dutchess of Cambridge and model Cara Delevingne.
Edie Campbell reigned supreme in the Model Of The Year category, Burberry claimed Brand of the Year and Kate Moss, who was honoured for her 25-year modelling career, took home the Special Recognition Award.
Singer Harry Styles refused to stick with tradition and crashed his model ex Cara Delevingne's sister's bachelorette bash in London on Saturday night (30Nov13). Poppy Delevingne threw a wild retro-themed party at the U.K. capital's posh Groucho Club, which was attended by her supermodel sister and famous female friends including actresses Sienna Miller and Jaime Winstone and TV presenter Alexa Chung.
Styles, who was once linked to Cara, did not want to miss out on the fun - he turned up to the bash, which was in celebration of Poppy's final days as a single woman ahead of her wedding to James Cook.
The One Direction star donned a blond wig to impersonate a member of 1990s band Hanson, along with radio star Nick Grimshaw and a female pal.
The trio partied at the club until the early hours of Sunday morning (01Dec13), when Styles left the venue wearing a huge elephant mask.
He later posted a snap of himself posing with Miller on his Instagram, and wrote: "I was part of Hanson."
Meanwhile, supermodel Cara had an embarrassing end to the night - she gave a woman driver a shock by hopping into the backseat of her car after mistaking it for a taxi cab.
Singer Neneh Cherry made an impressive comeback in London on Tuesday night (12Nov13) ahead of her first album release in 17 years. The Swedish star is gearing up to release a new record in early 2014, her first solo studio album since 1996's Man, and she marked her impending chart return by taking to the stage in front of a star-studded crowd in the U.K. capital.
Cherry played several old and new tracks at the bash to celebrate the first birthday of hotspot Sushi Samba at Heron Tower in front of celebrity guests including Leona Lewis, Alexa Chung, Mark Ronson and his DJ sister Samantha.
British pop star Mollie King is turning catwalk queen by joining the same model agency as Alexa Chung and Suki Waterhouse. Bosses at Next Models in London have added The Saturdays star to their books alongside a host of fashionable faces.
The blonde beauty says, "When I was approached by Next, I was so surprised, so excited. I feel really flattered to be placed alongside the names they already have, it's incredible. I'm used to having the girls around me, so it is a bit scary to be doing things on my own, but they were all so excited for me. I'm really looking forward to the next step."
As well as style icon Chung and Burberry model Waterhouse, who is dating Hollywood star Bradley Cooper, Next Models also represents singer King's fellow pop stars Rita Ora and Lana Del Rey, as well as model Alice Dellal.
King already has connections to the fashion world - she's previously dated top male model David Gandy.
