A campaign to make rocker Ozzy Osbourne a knight is gathering pace after his daughter Kelly threw her weight behind it. Public support for Australian super-fan Helen Maidiotis' campaign has mounted since Kelly backed it online, writing on Twitter.com, "I think this really needs to happen!" alongside a link to the project's Facebook.com page.
The petition had received 13,880 signatures on Tuesday (10Jun14), around 6,000 short of its 20,000 target.
In a note to Britain's Honours and Appointments Secretariat David Spooner, posted on Causes.com, Maidiotis writes, "I am petitioning for Ozzy Osbourne, frontman for Black Sabbath to receive a Knighthood after over 40 years of service to the music industry. Birmingham born John Michael Osbourne, has been entertaining and inspiring a great many throughout his life, he has been a huge success world wide with many successful albums with both Black Sabbath as well as in his solo career.
"Now in his mid 60's (sic), I believe the time has come for him to receive a Knighthood. Please consider Mr Osbourne for this honour as it is well deserved and long over due."
Sir Elton John and his partner David Furnish celebrated the superstar's 67th birthday on Friday (28Mar14) by hosting the grand opening of their new Las Vegas bar. The Rocket Man hitmaker and film producer Furnish were joined by actor Nicolas Cage, legendary producer Quincy Jones, rock matriarch Sharon Osbourne and her daughter Kelly, The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers, actress Britt Ekland and funnyman David Spade, among others for the launch of FIZZ Las Vegas.
The Champagne lounge, a collaboration between Furnish and nightlife gurus Michael Greco and Steven Kennedy, is located next to Caesars Palace's famed Colosseum theatre, where Elton is currently performing a Sin City residency.
Furnish tells USA Today, "Fizz is an extension of our personal style. Spending so much time in Las Vegas with Elton's performance schedule, we wanted a space that would reflect our personal style and become an extension of the way we entertain at home."
And he tells U.S. breakfast show Today, "Once people are inside, it's very small and intimate... We bring the lights down to make it really, really chic and warm and welcoming. It's very much an extension of the way we would do things."
Elton turned 67 on 25 March (14).
Sir Elton John raised $5.1 million (£3.2 million) for charity from his 22nd Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party on Sunday (02Mar14). Ozzy Osbourne was so overcome with emotion as he introduced Ringo Starr at the Grammy Awards, he was rendered speechless, according to his wife Sharon Osbourne. The Black Sabbath star joined his bandmates onstage to salute Starr but became tongue-tied when he spotted Sir Paul McCartney and John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono staring at him.
During the telecast, Osbourne appeared to have forgotten what he was supposed to say and chuckling bandmates Geezer Butler and Tony Iommi took over for him, but his wife insists the rocker was just overcome with nerves.
She explains, "He is so in awe of that band (Beatles) that when he was introducing Ringo, he couldn't say the word Beatles. He looked down, he saw Paul McCartney, he saw Yoko... and nothing came out... He was overcome.
"When they finished the other guys were teasing him the entire night... He just lost it."
Osbourne insists her husband's Beatles obsession is no joke: "His entire life he has just idolised the Beatles. He says that's what got him into music.
"I've been with Ozzy... coming up 35 years and every single day for 35 years he has listened to the Beatles... When Ozzy was in a coma, when he had his motorbike accident, we used to blast the Beatles in his room."
British singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran has been handed the honour of headlining Sir Elton John's Oscars viewing party. The A Team hitmaker will perform at the 22nd annual Elton John Aids Foundation Academy Award Viewing Party on 2 March (14).

A delighted Sheeran states, "I'm thrilled to have been invited to perform at the Elton John AIDS Foundation's Oscar-night party. HIV/AIDS is a huge concern for all young people, and I'm delighted to do my part to raise funds for Elton's vision of a world without AIDS."

Obama's predecessor George W. Bush added, "President Mandela was one of the great forces for freedom and equality of our time. He bore his burdens with dignity and grace, and our world is better off because of his example. This good man will be missed, but his contributions will live on forever."
British actor Idris Elba, who portrays Mandela in new movie Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom offered up a statement after hearing the sad news during the London premiere after party. It reads: "What an honour it was to step into the shoes of Nelson Mandela and portray a man who defied odds, broke down barriers, and championed human rights before the eyes of the world. My thoughts and prayers are with his family."

Sharon Osbourne has exposed another side to Sir Elton John by revealing the singer sends her links to filthy websites. Ozzy Osbourne's wife has been friends with the Your Song hitmaker for years, and insists he shares her dirty sense of humour.
Sharon, who recently rejoined the judging panel of Britain's The X Factor, has been staving off boredom during filming breaks by browsing disgusting websites recommended by Sir Elton.
She tells U.K. talk show host Alan Carr, "He sent me this thing and it's a Brazilian farting website. And there's this one lady, she's... voluptuous! And she's farting up a storm and there is this other lady who's very tiny with her nose - she's got a big nose, and it's right up this other woman's bum.
"I'm like, I cannot believe you would send me this, but I'm happy you did because it's amazing. He's filthy!"
