Freaks and Geeks was tragically canceled after only 12 episodes had aired -- a mistake many have come to learn throughout the years as the series has found a cult following and a new appreciation. Its cast is filled with some of the most recognizable and lovable faces around today. Here are the audition tapes from those faces, trying to land the roles we'd come to love them for:
Linda Cardellini, Lindsay Weir
We could really never picture any other actor playing Lindsay Weir, and she had it down pat even in her audition. Since playing lead character (and eternal style icon) Lindsay Weir, Cardellini has starred as the perm-getting murderess from Legally Blonde and Velma in the Scooby Doo movies, as well as maintaining a long run on ER and an Emmy-nominated guest role on Mad Men. More recently, she's done voice work with various TV shows.
John Francis Daley, Sam Weir
"So that means she had sex in February." He straight up kills this audition and perfectly embodies the adorable Sam Weir. Best known for his facial expressions throughout the short-lived series, Daley has become well known to fans of the hit show Bones, starring as Dr. Lance Sweets since season 3. He also writes movies like Horrible Bosses and The Incredible Burt Wonderstone nowadays too.
Seth Rogen, Ken Miller
"That's why when some idiot teacher tells me that I'm not living up to my potential, I just smile 'cause I know I am." It seems from this clip, Seth Rogen hasn't changed much, thankfully. Rogen followed his role in Freaks and Geeks with a small role in Donnie Darko and a lead role on the (also tragically short-lived) Judd Apatow-created Undeclared before finding more mainstream success with bigger roles in films like The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up, which he also produced. He's since gone on to write, produce, and star in several other monstrously successful films: Superbad, Pineapple Express, This Is The End, and Neighbors. He's also a known enemy of North Korea.
Busy Philipps, Kim Kelly
Wow, Busy Philipps totally understood just how mean she was supposed to be. After her turn as McKinley High School's resident mean girl Kim Kelly, Philipps guest starred a few times on Undeclared and then had a longer run as a supporting role on Dawson's Creek. Aside from her film roles in movies like White Chicks and Made of Honor, she can be found currently starring in the sixth and final season of Cougar Town.
Jason Segel, Nick Andopolis
Absolutely perfect audition, right? No longer just the awkward, Led Zeppelin-obsessed stoner of McKinley, Segel now has a successful film career acting in Knocked Up, I Love You, Man, Bad Teacher, and writing/starring in movies like Forgetting Sarah Marshall, The Muppets, The Five-Year Engagement, and Sex Tape. His TV roles include a memorable recurring role on Undeclared and a lead role on the long-lasting hit series How I Met Your Mother.
Martin Starr, Bill Haverchuck
"It's called the Hitler Punch." It's clear from this hilarious audition why he got the part! Probably our favorite of the entire bunch, Bill Haverchuck, the geekiest of the geeks, was played perfectly by the lanky and awkward Martin Starr. Starr has gone on to enjoy film roles in Superbad, Knocked Up, and This Is The End, along with a TV role on the hilarious-but-unfortunately-short-lived cult comedy Party Down. He can currently be found on the Emmy-nominated Silicon Valley as Gilfoyle.
Samm Levine, Neal Schweiber
Yepp, it seems Samm Levine really is Neal Schweiber, doofy impressions and all. Levine followed up his memorable turn as one of Sam Weir's geek best friends with small roles on every show you've ever heard of: Spin City, Yes, Dear, Just Shoot Me!, The Steve Harvey Show, Boston Public, Undeclared, Raising Dad, What I Like About You, Maybe It's Me, The Drew Carey Show, That's So Raven, That 70s Show, How I Met Your Mother, My Name Is Earl, Still Standing, Entourage, Veronica Mars, Lost, 90210, Modern Family, NCIS, Person of Interest, and most recently, Selfie. His film work includes Sydney White, Inglourious Basterds, and I Love You, Beth Cooper.
While there's no James Franco audition online yet, we're not giving up hope.
Actress Shailene Woodley is reportedly in talks to play infamous U.S. whistleblower Edward Snowden's girlfriend in a new Oliver Stone film. Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been cast to play the former technical contractor and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) employee in The Snowden Files.
If the Divergent star accepts the role, she will play Lindsay Mills, a dancer who recently moved to Moscow to live with exiled Snowden.
The film will be based on his Russian lawyer Anatoly Kucherena's novel Time Of The Octopus.
Snowden was charged with committing espionage against America after confessing to leaking confidential information on mass surveillance operations undertaken by the U.S. and U.K. government officials on their own citizens.
The Stone movie is slated to begin filming in Munich, Germany in January (15).
This isn't the only Snowden film in development - James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli is also working on a movie about the 30 year old, based on journalist Glenn Greenwald's book, No Place to Hide: Edward Snowden, the N.S.A. and the U.S. Surveillance State.
Actress Lindsay Lohan was given a favourable report by a California judge as the probation stemming from a 2011 theft case was finalised on Thursday (06Nov14). The Mean Girls star was accused of stealing a $2,500 (£1,562) piece of jewellery from a store in Venice in 2011, and she subsequently pleaded no contest to a charge of misdemeanour theft.
Lohan was put on extended probation as she had already received probation from prior drink-driving cases. The first sentence ended in 2012, and the latter ended on Thursday.
According to GossipCop.com, Superior Court Judge James R. Dabney stated he was pleased with the positive progress reports from Lohan's therapist and community service boss, noting she had "picked up the pace" after completing 102 hours of community service.
Lohan, who is currently in London's West End performing in Speed-the-Plow, is working with disabled adults and neglected children as part of her service, but still has to finished the full 240-hour commitment and continue counselling.
Lohan's lawyer appeared at the hearing on her behalf.
Taylor Swift, Lindsay Lohan, Zoe Saldana and Tyson Beckford have led tributes to designer Oscar De La Renta, who died on Monday (20Oct14).
Shortly after news of his death hit the headlines, celebrities lit up social media with fond farewells and kind words. Swift, who heard the news as she began her day in Australia, took to Instagram and wrote, "My all-time favorite designer has passed away. Oscar, it was an honor to wear your creations and to know you. In loving memory."
Lohan posted a quote from the designer, adding, "'Never in the history of the world have women been more in control of their destiny - #RIPOscar. A remarkable one of a kind legend." Zoe Saldana writes, "Iconic legendary genius, gone but definitely not forgotten #OscarDeLaRenta. My heart goes out to the De La Renta family." Actor/model Beckford adds, "RIP Oscar, I will truly miss you. 22 yrs (years) of your kind words", and Nicky Hilton tweeted, "What a sad day for the fashion industry. An icon is gone. RIP Oscar de la Renta."
Twitter tributes also poured in from Jamie Lee Curtis, Alyssa Milano, Garcelle Beauvais, Isabelle Fuhrman, Padma Lakshmi and fashion experts Nina Garcia, Zac Posen and Christian Siriano, while actress Rita Wilson added, "A great has left us. #OscarDeLaRenta Thank you for adding such beauty to the world, along with elegance, class and grace." Gloria Estefan, a big fan of de la Renta's work, recalled he was "a big part of 3 of my life's biggest moments", adding, "Made Grammy dress 4 performance and win for 'Mi Tierra', dress I wore to perform for the Pope and my daughter-in-law's wedding dress."
Jonah Hill poked fun at an ex-girlfriend while picking up GQ magazine's International Man of the Year honour in London on Tuesday night (02Sep14).
The Wolf of Wall Street star took aim at his sixth grade love while accepting the style trophy from Bradley Cooper. Hill said, "Emily, my first girlfriend... You broke my heart and left it shattered. Reminding the world her full name is now Kim Kardashian West, the reality TV star said, "I want to thank GQ for making me Woman of the Year, and my husband for making me feel like woman of the year every day."
Among those handing over the top prizes at the ceremony Lindsay Lohan, Bradley Cooper, Gerard Butler, Rita Ora, Cara Delevingne, Daisy Lowe, Bob Geldof, Pippa Middleton and author E.L. James, who presented her Fifty Shades of Grey star Jamie Dornan with a Breakthrough Award.

"I don't think about it. When people say things about other people I don't think it's necessary, I've never talked about anyone else and I never will.... If someone wants to do that for their own reasons there's nothing to say, I'm not in their head. I would never do that. I didn't read it." Lindsay Lohan has not read James Franco's cryptic story which he is rumoured to have written to rebuff reports they slept together.
Lindsay Lohan is searching for a ghost writer for her tell-all autobiography - and top of her wish-list is Fifty Shades Of Grey author E.L. James.
The Mean Girls star reportedly impressed publishing bosses when she met with them in London and hinted at the celebrity stories she can recount.
The troubled actress is reportedly now seeking a high-profile ghost writer to help her tell her tales, with James a prime target.
A source tells Britain's The Sun newspaper, "Lindsay held meetings at major publishing houses in London recently - and the stories she promised the literary agents made their jaws drop. She's prepared to put everything out there and has already proved she's not shy with the list of men she claims to have slept with."
"Lindsay is now looking for a ghost writer. It may seem unlikely, but she think she's in with a shot of getting E.L. James to work on it - they met recently at (London celebrity hangout) the Chiltern Firehouse and got on well. Another pie in the sky idea was that she might persuade (Harry Potter author) J.K. Rowling to work with her."
In March (14) a list of celebrity men Lohan claims to have slept with, which the actress made during a stay in a rehabilitation centre, leaked.
The actress first revealed plans to pen her memoirs in 2010.
Singer Adam Levine has denied sleeping with Lindsay Lohan despite his name appearing on the leaked list of her former celebrity lovers.
The Maroon 5 frontman was just one of 36 male stars on the scandalous handwritten list which was posted online by a U.S. tabloid in March (14). Lohan later confirmed she wrote the list as part of her rehab treatment last year (13), but like James Franco, who also dismissed rumours he was sexually involved with the Mean Girls star, Levine tells shock jock Howard Stern he never slept with Lohan.
Levine insists, "That's not true. I did not have sexual intercourse with Lindsay Lohan. I will swear on anything that you ask that I have never had sex with Lindsay Lohan! "Here's the problem: I bet you if we brought her in here and you asked her to her face 'Did you have sex with James (Franco)?' she'd say yes."
In addition to Levine and Franco, other celebrities on Lohan's list included Ashton Kutcher, Heath Ledger, Justin Timberlake, Zac Efron, Colin Farrell and Wilmer Valderrama, who she dated for six months in 2004.
Actor James Franco has penned a short story which appears to rebuff reports suggesting he slept with Lindsay Lohan. The Spider-Man star was linked to Lohan back in 2011, but denied speculation of a romance.
However, the gossip started up once again after Franco was included on a handwritten list of names, said to be the actress' former lovers, which was published by a U.S. tabloid earlier this year (14). Now Franco has tackled the subject in a bizarre short story for Vice.com, entitled 'Bungalow 89'. The tale lifts the lid on his time staying at Los Angeles' iconic Chateau Marmont hotel in 2011, and details his encounters with a woman named only as 'Lindsay'.
Franco writes, "Once upon a time a guy, a Hollywood guy, read some Salinger (American writer J. D. Salinger) to a young woman who hadn't read him before. Let's call this girl Lindsay. She was a Hollywood girl, but a damaged one. I knew that she would like Salinger, because most young women do." He then adds, "Now we were lying in bed. I wasn't going to f**k her. She had her head on my shoulder. She started to talk. I let her... I ran my fingers through her hair and thought about this girl sleeping on my chest, our fictional Hollywood girl, Lindsay. What will she do? I hope she gets better. You see, she is famous. She was famous because she was a talented child actress, and now she's famous because she gets into trouble. She is damaged."
Recently, something amazing happened and the world was gifted with a brand new Wes Anderson spoof. There have been many before, but this one was very special, functioning as the trailer for a porn parody. Maybe it's immature (it definitely is), but there's something deeply funny about mashing up the ridiculous dialogue and circumstances popular in the pornographic industry with the acclaimed work of celebrated film directors. Here are fove of the funniest porn parody videos ever.
The Grand Sausage Pizza
This isn't a real porn (yet), but it's interesting think about whether or not the die-hard Wes Anderson fans would feel slightly obligated to experience it. Can you say you've seen every Wes Anderson movie if you haven't seen the porno parodies as well? It's a fair question.
Game of Bones
Starring Incest King and Milf of Dragons, obviously. And, hilariously enough, that's Lindsay Lohan's Canyon's co-star James Deen as Jon Snow.
Man of Steel XXX
Right in time for last year's Man of Steel summer release, this amazing porn parody trailer was released. Comic book fans will be pleased to see that characters like Silver Banshee and Zatanna make it into this one.
Alice In Wonderland XXX: A Porn Parody
We apologize in advance for ruining your childhood. This one was actually a bit traumatic.
Buffy The Vampire Slayer: A Parody
We're going to end on a high note here because, actually, this one looks pretty awesome. Porn parody Spike and Harmony? Brilliant! And you just know the stake jokes are probably amazing and plentiful.
