Mark Wahlberg jumped at the chance to work with his neighbour, Denzel Washington, on new movie 2 Guns - because the Glory star has always looked out for the former Calvin Klein underwear model and rapper and offered him some sage advice over the years. The Ted star had no idea his pal was attached to the action film when he first picked up the script - and he was thrilled to discover he'd be starring alongside his longtime mentor.
Wahlberg explains, "I said, 'Who is the other guy?' Once I heard Denzel was interested, I was like, 'Great, we got our movie'.
"I've always admired him and we've known each other socially. We both have four kids. We're neighbours and I would always pick his brains for advice, personally and professionally. He's a church-going, family man."
And Washington appears to really like his protege, telling WENN, "Mark's a good guy. He's a regular guy like me. He's a good dude, excited about his businesses. He hasn't lost his way."
Scottish singer Emeli Sande thrilled revellers on the last night of Britain's Virgin Media V Festival by performing a surprise show on a tiny stage hours after her set in the main arena. The Heaven hitmaker played on the main stage at the event in Chelmsford, England on Sunday (18Aug13) and performed new single Lifted with collaborator Naughty Boy.
Hours later, she returned the favour by appearing with him during his set on the tiny Futures Stage.
She treated the small crowd to several songs, including Lifted, and thanked them for turning out to see her friend play.
Kings of Leon and Calvin Harris headlined the Chelmsford event on Sunday night, while Beyonce took to the stage for her second V Festival show in Stafford, England.
The pop superstar previously received a frosty reception at the Chelmsford leg on Saturday after leaving fans waiting in the pouring rain for 20 minutes, while her set was peppered with breaks, video intervals and lengthy costume changes.
British DJ Calvin Harris has failed to persuade his pop star girlfriend Rita Ora to become a fan of his music. The beatmaster has just topped Forbes Magazine's World's Highest Paid DJs list and broken several U.K. chart records with his hit album 18 Months.
However, despite his success, Harris' singer girlfriend doesn't enjoy listening to his music and has ruled out the idea of a future collaboration.
The DJ tells Britain's The Sun, "Rita doesn't like dance music. She doesn't really like my music, but I like hers. (But) we're not together for musical reasons which is great.
"We're trying to keep business and pleasure separate and she's not really into the idea (of a collaboration)."
DJ Calvin Harris has been crowned the world's highest paid DJ after raking in $46 million (£30.6 million) in the past year. Editors at Forbes magazine estimate the Scottish hitmaker earned the big bucks between August, 2012 and August, 2013, easily making him number one in their new World's Highest Paid DJs list.
Harris, who has played over 100 live shows, averaging $195,000 (£130,000) per performance, credits the increasing popularity of dance music in recent years for his monumental success, adding, "I happened to be in the right place at the right time."
Dutch star Tiesto came in second place with $32 million (£21.3 million), while France's David Guetta was third with $30 million (£20 million).
Swedish House Mafia and Deadmau5 rounded out the top five with $25 million (£16.6 million) and $21 million (£14 million), respectively.
Other DJs and producers featured on the countdown include Avicii, Afrojack, Skrillex and Steve Aoki.
Robin Thicke has made U.S. pop chart history by becoming only the eighth solo male star ever to rack up 10 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100. The R&B star's summer smash Blurred Lines is the first song to rule over the countdown for two-and-a-half months since Rihanna and Calvin Harris' 2011 release We Found Love, and the first by an individual male artist since Flo Rida cracked the 10-week mark with Low in 2008.
Thicke's chart domination keeps Miley Cyrus' We Can't Stop in second place for a third non-consecutive week, while Imagine Dragons are at three with Radioactive.
Daft Punk's Get Lucky collaboration with Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers stays put at four and Jay Z and Justin Timberlake's Holy Grail remains at five.
Scottish DJ/producer Calvin Harris is celebrating after breaking his own U.K. chart record by scoring another top 10 hit with his latest single Thinking About You. The star previously set the record for the highest number of top 10 singles from one album after landing hits with tracks including Bounce and Sweet Nothing from 2012's 18 Months.
He smashed the record of eight on Sunday (04Aug13) when Thinking About You landed in ninth place on the U.K. singles chart, making it his ninth hit song from the album.
Harris told fans the good news in a post on Twitter.com, writing, "Made a bit of chart history today! Thinking About You went Top 10 in U.K... the first time anyone has had 9 top 10 singles from one album!"
Calvin Klein's on/off boyfriend Nick Gruber has been questioned by police over allegations he was involved in a nightclub brawl last month (Jul13). The model was reportedly caught up in a clash with a fellow reveller at a bar in the Hamptons, New York on 20 July (13) and he was contacted by police last week (ends04Aug13) and asked to answer questions about the incident.
He attended East Hampton Police Station on Friday (02Aug13) and spoke to cops about what happened. He was not arrested.
Matt Rich, a spokesman for Gruber, tells New York Post gossip column Page Six, "Police... called me on Wednesday to say they wanted to interview Nick. He voluntarily... spoke with the police for an hour, it was a friendly conversation, and he was not arrested... He fully cooperated with all aspects of routine processing. He was given a desk appearance ticket to come back to tell his story with his witnesses on September 26... Of course he'll continue to cooperate fully."
Reports suggested another reveller was hospitalised after the alleged incident.
Lady Gaga has beaten Justin Bieber to the top of a new Hollywood young stars poll. Forbes magazine editors have released their annual list of the top earning celebrities under 30, and Gaga comes in first place, earning $80 million (£53.3 million) between June, 2012 and June, 2013, ahead of the Baby hitmaker, who placed second with $58 million (£38.6 million).
Gaga also beats last year's (12) list-topper Taylor Swift, who came in third by raking in $55 million (£37 million), while Calvin Harris and Rihanna round out the top five.
Also making the 2013 top 10 list: Katy Perry, Adele, Jennifer Lawrence, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner.
Calvin Klein's on/off boyfriend Nick Gruber was caught up in a nightclub brawl at the weekend (20-21Jul13). Gruber was partying with pals at a bar in the Hamptons, New York on Saturday night (20Jul13) when he clashed with a fellow reveller. He lashed out and punched the unidentified man in the face for shoving him.
Cops were called to the venue, SL East, but model Gruber had already left. He has not been quizzed by officers over the incident.
A spokesman for Gruber tells New York Post gossip column Page Six, "The guy pushed him first, then there was a bit more pushing. Nick punched him out of self defence, and the guy suffered a cut above his eye. Nick is fine... Nick does not know the guy, nor does he know why the guy started pushing him. Unfortunately, when you are a well known face, people target you for the wrong reasons."
