A Ranking of Eddie Redmayne’s Best Movies

When we saw Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them we decided this guy can pretty much do anything. Though he’s only 34 years old, Redmayne has been the recipient of an Oscar, Golden Globe, BAFTA, Olivier and Tony Award. Some might say he’s one of the brightest actors of our age — and we’d agree! Check out Hollywood.com’s favorite Eddie Redmayne performances.

The Theory of Everything

Redmayne’s award shelf is chalked full of wins from this film. Opposite Felicity Jones, he plays Stephen Hawking, the genius physicist with a crippling disease. Critics and fans alike agreed he brought the perfect blend of drama, romance, humor and, most importantly, realism. For us, this movie tops the charts.

The Danish Girl

A year later, Redmayne returned to the big screen for another Academy Award-nominated drama. Instead of playing an astrophysicist, he plays a woman named Lili. Once known as Einar, a troubled painter and husband who can’t seem to make sense of his feelings in 1920’s Copenhagen, Lili finally allows herself to be free. His Oscar nom for best actor was proof of this memorable role. (Plus, he makes one of the prettiest women we’ve ever seen.)

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Redmayne’s roll of awesome movies continued with his latest: J.K. Rowling‘s look into the American wizarding world. Fresh out of Hogwarts (because he was expelled, of course), Newt is a little eccentric, a little socially awkward and a little obsessed with magical creatures. Keeping them in a briefcase that Mary Poppins would be proud of, he dedicates his life to learning how to keep these species alive. Of course, much mischief is managed along the way. We think that Redmayne was a perfect addition to Rowling’s magical world.

My Week With Marilyn

Playing an ambitious young filmmaker who falls for Marilyn Monroe, Redmayne is an integral part of this movie. Michelle Williams earned recognition for her Marilyn performance but seemed to shine extra opposite her co-star. Though not the actor’s most popular blockbuster, we think it’s one of his best.

Les Miserables

Though this film concludes our ranking, it definitely still makes the list. After a streak of indie flicks, moviegoers were introduced to Redmayne in the 2012 version of Les Misérables (yes, this man can sing too!). Okay, so we can’t help but think this character is kind of lame. I mean falling in love with a girl you just met and friend zoning your BFF until she dies in your arms? Weird. But Marius qualms aside, Redmayne rocks “Empty Chairs at Empty Tables.”
