Adrian Pasdar returns to the fake Oval Office for TV drama

The actor plays the American leader in new TV drama Political Animals and admits he is familiar with the office where Barack Obama conducts official business.

He explains, “We used the same set for Heroes as the Oval Office from The West Wing. It’s within an inch of the real thing, so you might as well be in the Oval Office. When they were building the set for Heroes, I went in on a Saturday and they had taken it from The West Wing and put it on our sound stages and were building it there.

“They were pretty much done when I went in and asked the guys if I could just sit there while they went to lunch. I fell asleep on the couch taking a cat nap. I woke up and there was nobody in there and the set was completely quiet. I woke up and I didn’t know where I was, and for a minute I thought I was really in the Oval Office!

“I looked around in this lucid state thinking, ‘Some day I’ll be in this office’. And now I’m working on the set for Political Animals.”

And Pasdar is still hoping for an official lunch date from the President himself: “When Barack Obama had his initial fundraiser for presidency I had an opportunity to attend the event at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

“I introduced myself to him and he said, ‘I know who you are. We have your DVDs of season one of Heroes on the campaign plane and we watch when we’re done with the day.’ I said, ‘No, get out!’ I said, ‘If you win, how about we have lunch in the Rose Garden?’ And he said, ‘You’re on’. I’m still waiting for that call!”
