Alain Whyte auctions off prized guitar

British rocker Alain Whyte is auctioning off a guitar he used while songwriting and performing with singer Morrissey.
The musician joined the former The Smiths frontman’s backing band for his debut solo tour in 1991, and Whyte went on to become Morrissey’s chief songwriting partner until the two parted ways in 2004.
During that time, Whyte co-wrote many of the pop star’s biggest chart hits, and now he is giving fans the chance to own a piece of history by selling the guitar he used on some of the songs in an eBay auction – and he will even sign it for the winning bidder.
In the listing, the rocker writes, “Alain Whyte’s Black duo Jet Gretsch Guitar in good condition. Was used in many Morrissey demo’s and songs and was used live… It’s a solid great guitar in the vein of a Les Paul but has the sound of the vintage Gretsch, may the best bidder win… I am happy to sign the guitar for the winning bidder if that is what you would like.”
The high bid stood at $1,900 (£1,313) as WENN went to press. The auction is due to end on 9 February (16).
