Andrea Barber: ‘I came out of retirement simply for Full House spin-off’

Actress Andrea Barber jumped at the chance to return to acting in the new Full House spin-off.
The 39-year-old played neighbour Kimmy Gibbler in the original series, but quit acting after the show wrapped in 1995, and attended college, worked in higher education, got married and started a family.
The former child star admits she had no desire to return to Hollywood, but when she heard about Fuller House, she had no reservations about making a comeback.
“I had a great experience as a child,” she tells People magazine. “I love the craft, I just don’t really like the business. The marketing of yourself, going out on auditions and the unpredictability of the profession is really hard on my family life. It’s just a really tough business.”
“I came back to this business simply for Fuller House,” she adds. “It was a dream come true. I didn’t have to audition for the show and I get to work with people I already know and love! I feel very fortunate.”
Barber also insists she couldn’t resist the idea of reuniting with her onscreen sister and real-life best friend Candace Cameron-Bure, who reprises her role as DJ Tanner in the reboot.
“Working together again on the same set that we grew up on, we just had a blast,” she continues. “That was absolutely the best part of doing the show, getting to spend so much time with Candace and Jodie (Sweetin). There aren’t that many people who can relate to my personal childhood. The three of us shared this unique history.”
And she is grateful to fans for their continued support 21 years after the original show ended.
“Our fans have been so loyal, even before Fuller House was a thing,” she says. “I don’t think they are going to be disappointed… We can see and appreciate how those characters grew up. I hope people Tweet me their reactions because I want to read them all. I can’t wait.”
