Andrei Tarkovsky archive up for sale

The collection includes book drafts and audio tapes written and recorded by the Solaris moviemaker, as well as personal family photographs and film scripts from his directing career.

Among the items is a letter which Tarkovsky wrote to former Soviet Union President Leonid Brezhnev, arguing that a ban on the release of his films should be lifted.

The archive will be sold by Sotheby’s in London on 28 November (12) and is expected to fetch around $160,00 (£100,000).
