Angel Haze leaks debut album to spite record label bosses

Rapper Angel Haze has leaked her own debut album to spite her label bosses for continually pushing back its release date. The rising hip-hop star was originally scheduled to unveil Dirty Gold in January (13), but it kept getting delayed, prompting Haze to defy her bosses at Island/Republic Records on Wednesday (18Dec13) and share the project in its entirety with her fans for free via Twitter.com.
Along with a link to streaming music site SoundCloud, she wrote, “Since they don’t want to put it out this year, I will. Here’s the album. Here is Dirty Gold. I hope you enjoy it.”
She made no secret that she was not afraid of the repercussions from her label bosses, adding, “Sorry to Island/Republic Records, but f**k you. I got here doing this for my fans and if you guys don’t feel the same, it won’t stop me.
“I don’t care what happens after this. The fans will get the music they were promised. And you guys (the label) just may learn to keep your f**king word.”
Haze’s frustration had been building the night before, as she even took to the microblogging site on Tuesday (17Dec13) to let out some steam over her delayed project.
She wrote, “Frustration is building. Growing wildly out of control… It’s so annoying that my label could tell me that if I f**king finished my album before the summer it would be out this year.
“I turned down so much s**t to be sure that I could finish this album because actually wanting something to me means doing all you can to be sure that it’s attainable… I did not promise an album and not deliver, unlike every-f**king-one else. I sat my a** down and came up with this music when I had nothing. Imagine having the only reason you’re alive being the very thing straining your existence. Ughhhh.”
Representatives for Island/Republic have yet to comment on the controversy, although the SoundCloud link to her album has since been removed from the Internet.
