‘American Idol’: Angie Miller is Singing for Boston

Boston native Angie Miller is keeping the people of her hometown in mind during her American Idol performances this week. More specifically, the 19-year-old singer is dedicating both of her songs from Top 5 week to her city.

“[Monday] was a terrible day,” she tells Hollywood.com on her final day of rehearsals before the show. “It was terrible in rehearsal. I couldn’t even focus. My family is good, but I have friends who were there and saw it and ran.”

The tragedy of the Boston Marathon bombings is absolutely something the singer is carrying with her as she continues in the competition. Especially when she sings “I’ll Stand By You” by The Pretenders — the song she chose from the year she was born. “That’s completely for Boston,” she says. “That song is dedicated to Boston. I think it’s the perfect song for the circumstance. I think I’m going to love being able to sing that for Boston.”

Hopefully her piano-tinged rendition (yes, she’ll be on the keys again) and her other song, “Halo” by Beyonce, will be able to lift Miller from the middle to the top of the pack. “[Being in the middle] is good for right now, but there’s only five people now and [soon] there will only be four. The middle is not the best place to be anymore, you know? So you definitely want to shoot for top two or three.

Miller and the rest of the Top 5 girls perform on Idol at 8 PM on Fox.
