Anupam Kher is one of India's most renowned actors appearing in nearly 400 films and more than 100 plays. Even though Kher (married to actress Kirron Kher and step-father of actor Sikander Kher) made his acting debut in "Aagman" (1982), it was really with his performance as a middle-aged man dealing with the loss of his son in "Saaransh" (1984) that he made a name for himself. After a chilling performance as Dr. Dang the terrorist in the hit action film "Karma" (1986), Kher won his first National Award for his portrayal of an alcoholic father trying to reconnect with his teenage daughter in "Daddy" (1989). After the success of "Daddy," he started receiving mainly serious roles. However, Kher decided to show his comic side by delivering a hilarious performance in the romantic blockbuster "Lamhe" (1991), for which he won his first Filmfare award in the Best Comedian category. Kher currently holds the record for winning five times in this category. After "Lamhe," Kher went on to star in a number of commercial as well as off-beat Bollywood movies playing villains, heroes and comedians, making him one of India's most versatile actors.
