Ariana Grande Speaks Out About Fan Encounter That Left Her Feeling ‘Sick And Objectified’

Ariana Grande is not taking anything from anyone. The “Problem” singer has a huge problem with the way society objectifies and views women — and she’s letting everyone know it. Ariana took to Twitter on Tuesday night to discuss a fan encounter that left her feeling “sick and objectified.”
The incident occurred while the star was picking up food with her boyfriend, rapper Mac Miller. They ran into one of his fans who was so excited about meeting Mac that he practically jumped into the driver’s seat of the car. Ariana was down with the whole encounter until the fan said, “Ariana is sexy as hell, man. I see you. I see you hitting that!”
Apparently Ari didn’t take so kindly to being talked about like she wasn’t standing right there, and she really didn’t like being reduced to a “piece of meat.” Seriously, though, who would? Grande admitted the whole encounter left her feeling “sick and objectified” and she’s been “really quiet and hurt since that moment.”
Grande used this as an opportunity to talk about the larger problem — the reason why people think it’s okay to dehumanize women.
“Things like [this] happen all the time and are the kinds of moments that contribute to women’s sense of fear and inadequacy,” she wrote. “We need to talk about these moments openly because they are harmful and they live on inside of us as shame. We need to share and be vocal when something makes us feel uncomfortable because if we don’t, it will just continue.”

The singer also clapped back at fans who criticized the sexuality portrayed in her music (i.e. saying she’s asking for it).

expressing sexuality in art is not an invitation for disrespect !!! just like wearing a short skirt is not asking for assault.

Women's choice. ♡ our bodies, our clothing, our music, our personalities….. sexy, flirty, fun.
it is not. an open. invitation.— Ariana Grande (@ArianaGrande) December 28, 2016
You are literally saying that if we look a certain way, we are yours to take. But we are not !!! It's our right to express ourselves. ♡
