ashley juddFor the most part, Ashley Judd has procured a rather impressive career but the actress has been dealing with some very unwanted headlines after several media outlets speculated that her “puffy face” indicated that she’d undergone some form of plastic surgery. But according to Judd, the swelling was caused by steroids (not surgery), which she used while experiencing a sinus infection — and she resents that the tabloids jumped to such a radical conclusion.

During an interview on NBC’s Nightly News (which aired on April 11), Judd discussed her recent encounter with criticism and blames the whole ordeal on the world’s objectification of women.

“I think it’s the objectification of girls and women and this hypersexualization of our society that invites the criticism,” the 43-year-old star stated. “We’re taught not to admit how much it hurts — just go buy more hairspray, get back to the gym, or buy another butt clencher exercise DVD. That’s how to undo the hurt, when in fact that’s just contributing to the pain.”

The Missing star also added: “It doesn’t have anything to do with me, really, and how I look. It might look a little different in other people’s lives because they may not be public figures, but we all go through it.”
