Aslan frontman Christy Dignam battling cancer again

Aslan singer Christy Dignam is battling cancer again.
The frontman was diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer in 2013 and a year later, he told fans he was “on the mend” and getting stronger.
However, in an interview with the Irish Sun on Sunday, the Irish rocker revealed the disease was back and that he had learned the bad news after receiving a result from a blood test earlier this week (ends11Jun17).
“I got a terrible shock. I got the result from my monthly blood test that I’m most afraid of,” he said. “It was the worst news I could get, that this negative protein is growing inside my body.
“All I can do now is more chemo but I’m not confident. Your blood develops an immunity to treatment so there’s no guarantee it’s going to work.”
He told his wife Kathryn and daughter Kiera straight away but is yet to tell his bandmates, who attended the funeral of their manager Svenn Braamark recently without him because he was too ill.
“I might look healthy but I’m in lot of pain, he said. “I suppose it’s the human spirit to adapt to whatever situation you’re in but I really don’t know.”
Despite his diagnosis, Dignam is determined to carry on performing and is scheduled to play with the band on 7 July (17) in Iveagh Gardens in Dublin, Ireland.
